Jacob Imam and Matt Fradd read an article about a hermit in Lexington, KY that recently revealed they are a biological female who identifies as a man. The bishop knew about this at the time He took vows from the individual.

I am not of that dicoese, and struggle as a layman to justify complaining to the bishop from NZ. But for those who feel called to do so, the following is my concern.
I am concerned at the bishop's letter where he calls a transgender hermit "he" when addressing the hermit. The reason I am concerned is it appears to bear false witness under the guise of having compassion. It seems to me that if one is compassionate, this must be born of love and humility. To live in love is to live in God as the scripture says. The scripture also says that love rejoices in the truth, so to bear false witness about a person seems to be contrary to love...
To have compassion means to bear the sufferings of another. Affirming a transgender person's gender confusion seems to contradict this.
Writing compassionately about someone requires a truthful representation of that someone, even if it requires addressing the reality of their sufferings. This can be very hard and very painful to do, but it is necessary to wrestle through their painful reality to represent their burdens well. In doing so, you share in their struggles they face every day, bearing their burdens and suffering with them through your writing. This is true compassion.
To affirm their confusion is to avoid their struggle, deserting them, leaving them unsupported and making it impossible to truly love and be authentically compassionate on them. To affirm their delusions is a lie and to present one's self as being compassionate in doing so seems also to bear false witness. Affirming another's delusion is the avoidance of suffering with them, it is the avoidance of compassion.

Some bishops are very much lost sheep themselves. Even in advanced age. The best thing that can be done is to pray for his soul, and for those he shepards as we’re called to do for all brethren. Time and time again, this bishop in particular seems very intent in shepherding in a way that grieves the Holy Spirit. For various reasons, we don’t love admitting it, but a pattern of behavior speaks volumes about someone’s state of mind/true beliefs. I pray his heart is pierced by the sword of Truth Himself before too late.

@@EdwardBray-i1w some of us can think the bishop of Rome is exactly where he’s meant to be, on the seat of St. Peter and still think he’s a slightly wayward, self-absorbed pope. And still know the church is true and stake our loyalty to her unequivocally; and would defend her at all costs. For she is guided by the Holy Spirit no matter who sits there. No matter which sinner seats there, they’re just a placeholder for the returning King. Just because we can see and choose to point out where a bishop is going wrong does not mean we’re being divisive or that we’re likely to leave the church or lead others away. On the contrary, facing the truth of the state of things, (the truth about some of our leadership) is much healthier than defending an ill. Defending an ill, means lying to yourself and it could mean one doesn’t actually believe the Holy Spirit is in control. A wolf can occupy the seat of Peter, and it would still be what’s meant to be for the time being. I’m comfortable with that b/c I trust the Holy Spirit infinitely. Hence many’s defense of Bishop Strickland and many others. Perhaps Vigano has gone off-course, but I wouldn’t know as I don’t follow. But I can say I believe Bishop Strickland to be a man of genuine faith and humility, simply trying his best to be more saint-like than coward.

These dissenters (including but not limited to Dubia Cardinal) are claiming falsehoods, are the ones creating confusion, and are intentionally misleading the faithful. In fact, most of these dissenters don't even hold Magisterial authority of themselves unless they are combined with all the college of bishops. I could for on with why you are just incorrect, but why bother as you will only experience cognitive dissonance after consuming so much dissenting material (like Matt has pushed, and at times consumes himself). You all believe Vigano is a paragon of virtue, when, in reality, he's been proven to reject that the Pope is a legitimate Pope, rejects Vatican II (a VERY valid ecumenical council), has lied, played defense for McCarrick then blamed it on Pope Francis when all evidence proves he's lying, and is building a parallel church with him as the heat (anti-Pope). Yeast is tiny compared to the environment it is placed in by the baker, but has a profound effect on that environment, dictating the direction and form of the final product. A. The Catholic Church is not a Democracy. We, the lay, can just inform, but actions are taken by the direct leadership. There is, a scarcity of competent clerics who are able to manage Christ's Church, as many hold Protestant theology without even realizing it. Not that easy to select bishops.
      B. There are steps that can be taken and they take time. You don't rush to these decisions rashly, then smear a cleric just cause I don't like his politics. There is a line the Church walks to avoid creating unnecessary scandal. There are nuncios who are meant to look into these things, but at times, you get a Nuncio like Vigano, who, rather than following up on credible allegations against Bishops and Priests, turn a blind eye, ignore recommendations from the Vatican to stop their activities, go to events with them and play pals, and praising these people (much like Vigano did for McCarrick). Then you have his lies and misinformation about the Pope, media outlets who, outright lie and misinform about the facts, then the poor souls who buy the propaganda and turn against the Church.
The Catholic Church has no shortage of enemies, but if you're a good, faithful, Catholic, you know that Jesus was not lying when he said he prayed for Peter so that he would not falter, and that the Gates of Hell would not triumph against His Church. You either trust Jesus genuinely, or you turn Protestant and hold a misguided idea of what that trust entails.

There are certainly times of scandal in the Church; and for sure we'll see handfuls of bishops fall into sin or error (as has always been the case). But if we really believe that our Catholic Church is the church that Christ built then, unlike the Anglican and other protestant churches, we also hold firmly to his promise that 'the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it' (Matt 16:18).
Even the Apostles had a Judas among them. The Church will endure.
