Looks good, have you thought of making a casting of this ring? The band you have there is a bit thin. People don’t realise gold wears down and becomes thinner in time.

This is a really helpful post ,just learning to work with gold and really scary how different the soldering technique is from sterling silver,,thank you.,it's more like welding than soldering,it looks like your bringing the gold NR melting point ,not sure what type of flux to use eather ,😬

What’s that tool you use to take the stuff off the ring before you start polishing it
Just some constructive criticism. As a jeweler I never polish over my workbench. It contaminates your filing. Ps try some swiss needle files instead of that huge file. Overall not a bad job.
I'm all for constructive feedback, will look at getting some in the future :)

Gr8 channel. Did you resolder the very big break off again on the bottom or top after doing the smaller section...what type of solder flux were you using?

I'm a Laser Welding technician where I repair Molds or Moulds. My power isn't enough on this highly reflective material..I wish to make two silver and gold rings, the setting is a 10mm Green MOSSANITE stone. One as a pronged ring. The other as a sealed in stone with burnisher.
As a certified Toolmaker of 49 years experience. I'd like to make a ring. I know...do a ring course.

Im curious if you engraved the design back onto it after all of that sanding and solder. Also i suggest cleaning the ring and dipping the entire ring into liquid flux to prevent blueing or burning. i learned that after seeing a ring burnt all over even under the stones. every crack and crevice and design was black and it doesn't just clean off. you've gotta sand it off or polish it off. sometimes pulling stones is the only way to get the seats clean of the burnt residue. just a suggestion as i noticed the finished rings design on the head still had some black in the holes.
No I didn't engrave it back sadly, two things I want to improve on are stone setting and engraving. as for cleaning the burn marks and crap of the ring, I've found as pickle acid bath does the trick. And whenever I'm repairing a ring with a stone I'll submerge the setting in water so the heat never really effects the setting nor the stone.
FunWithFire. easy enough. engraving is very tedious and you have to have your graver sharp as all get out. I've been a bench jeweler for 6 years now and I'm still learning little tricks here and there! We used to use pickle solution but we've since switched to anti oxidizing flux. It works sooo much better with coating the ring and stones. also it helps the solder flow so much smoother. less pits etc. we order from stueller and Gesswein.. if you haven't looked into their products you should!

Yeah its just solder, cant remember if its easy or medium. and yeah the white stuff is flux. I would defo use the flux

No I very much doubt it
Ripley no it needs to be able to melt the metal
The solder has a lower melting point that the material which allows it to melt. The flux allows the solder to flow. I found that I could get the solder hot enough that it would turn into a ball but not melt and flow. You can use a butane torch like the chefs use for small jobs but its unreliable and can stuff up your work. I tried a few. Best to spend the money and buy a proper jewellers soldering torch. Cost me 350$ Australian it runs off a normal gas cylinder. Made life much easier and I often use the butane one for small jobs. There’s heaps of tutorials here on CZcams. Good luck and be safe
Although some of these Jewelers are excellent I don't know why they can't work clean it's so much better for the gold and it won't fit trying to push dirt out later handy added time to clean up just take an extra 10 seconds to do it clean

Hey...ik this might be alot to ask there is amlarge chance u won't read this but i have a ring that means the world to me ...my best friend smacked his head on it and broke it ....it was my great grandmothers it meant the world to my whole house and i wanted to ask if u could try and fix it?

This is a repair video not a restoration. For a ring that is that old your emery drum use is irresponsible.
Restoration -" the action of returning something to a former owner, place, or condition"... this is a restoration XD, and my use of the emery drum was effective
@@natecharleswatches - Going over the entire piece with the sanding drum was a bad idea. A larger buffing wheel with rouge
would have been less work, and created no scratches
