    I've always wondered two things: 1. If the Male gods got those awesome weapons, what did the godesses get from the cyclops? 2. Which Titans besides Cronos and Atlas fought the gods?
    What do you guys think Hestia Demeter and Hera got?

    • @Knight860
      @Knight860 Před 2 lety +83

      It's not really known what the Greek Goddesses got, mostly it's about Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. The Theogony doesn't really list which side each Titan took and what their subsequent fates were except for Cronus and Atlas the story mostly serves as a tale of the Greeks letting go of their savage pasts (i.e. the Titans) and becoming more civilized (i.e. the Olympians). Some Titans like Themis and Prometheus sided with the Olympians and reaped the rewards, while several others sat out the fight and were spared punishment.

    • @KangarooMonkey
      @KangarooMonkey Před 2 lety +42

      The theogony is pretty in-depth so because they weren’t stated to have gotten anything it’s likely that the goddesses probably didn’t get anything.
      It’s probably because they weren’t as important as the three kings, but it also might’ve been related to the fact that Hesiod was kinda, sorta, very extremely sexist. Although it probably was just because they weren’t as important.

      Hestia, Demeter, and Hera are explicitly said to have fought alongside their brothers in the Titanomachy, though not much detail is given. The other goddesses (Athena, Artemis, etc) weren’t born yet.
      On the other side, the female Titans fought against the Olympians, and lost alongside their brothers and husbands.

      Hestia providing warmth from the hearth because Titanomachy war goes through several winters.

      We are never told. Hesiod seems to suggest that they fought alongside their brothers, by mentioning both males and females when talking about the children of Kronos, though he doesn't show any of the females doing anything specifically. We also have accounts in which only Zeus and his brothers are said to fight.
      As for the female titans, there is no evidence that they fought, and given that none of them are imprisoned in Tartaros or otherwise punished, it is reasonable to assume that they stayed neutral like Okeanos.
      We also are told by Hesiod that Nike and Bia, the daughters of Styx, fought on the side of the Olympians together with their brothers.
