  • We ride the heavily updated 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak! The latest Multistrada V4 iteration is a return to form for the venerable Multistrada platform, focusing on its road-oriented roots and providing a brilliant mix of high-performance and touring capability. The result is clear, the Multi V4 Pikes Peak is the Italian brand's sportiest sport-tourer.
Numerous changes are in store for the Multi V4 PP, which has created a machine designed to tackle spirited road riding, touring, and even racetrack riding. All of the ADV fixings on the Multistrada V4, like a 19-inch front wheel and traditional swingarm, are left out this time around. Instead, the Pikes Peak variant uses revised geometry, updated ergonomics, a single-sided swingarm, retuned electronics, and a 17-inch front wheel.
The 1,158cc 90-degree V4 Grandturismo engine returns to the fold, featuring its MotoGP-inspired counter-rotating crankshaft and class-leading 36,000-mile valve-service interval. With a claimed 170 horsepower and 92 lb-ft of torque on tap, the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak pulls hard from the bottom, all the way through its rev-range, delivering smooth power anytime, anywhere. A new rev-limit strategy also signals when riders are approaching the redline.
The riding position is updated, providing a more aggressive riding position that is still comfortable enough for long days in the saddle. The handlebar is lower, shorter, and flatter. Meanwhile, the rearsets are raised and moved back to increase ground clearance and encourage a moderately sporty seating position.
Of course, the significant changes come to the Pikes Peak's chassis, which includes a new monocoque frame that extends the rake and trail for more excellent stability. Along with that, we have a single-sided swingarm, and together, these changes work to encourage loads of stability. Handling is further sweetened by the 17-inch forged-aluminum Marchesini wheels that reduce unsprung weight by a whopping 8.8 pounds compared to the Multistrada V4's standard wheelset.
Suspension duties are now handled by the proven Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension, giving riders the ability to change the damping and shock-preload settings at the push of a button.
Moreover, this flagship Ducati's electronic package is reworked with an eye on sportier riding. The ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and quickshifting algorithms all have updates in their more aggressive settings to facilitate sporty road and racetrack riding.
There is plenty more ground to cover with the 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak. Senior Editor Nic de Sena shared his thoughts from the International Launch held in Palm Springs, California, during this First Ride Review.

Excellent review - Nic always does a great job of covering this category of motorcycles. This was the most complete and thorough of all the reviews I've seen on the PP.

      Hey Izney,
Whew, that's quite the decision on your hands as those options are radically different. I'd say if you have aspirations for adventuring off the pavement, then an ADV bike like the AT will be the way to go for you. Of course, you could always split the difference and grab a Multistrada V4 S, if you wanted to stay within the Ducati brand.
When it comes to this upper echelon of sport-touring machines, the Pikes Peak is putting up quite the proposition.
      Hope this helps,
      - Nic

Many want to know if the V4 Pikes Peak is worth upgrading from the 1260 Pikes Peak. Could you test both back to back on the road and especially at the track?

      Hi Salah,
I wouldn't recommend it. It would take some modifying to make the 19-inch wheel work, but at that point, you might as well purchase a Multistrada V4 or V4 S. The Pikes Peak is designed for road use only, with the single-sided swingarm, lesser suspension travel than the ADV version, and road-oriented chassis geometry.
      Take care!

I have 2019 Tuono V4 would I get bored if I upgrade to this ? Sometimes I like to ride for a long distances and when it comes to Twisty roads I always try pushing the bike to the limits. And I like to do some wheelies as well. The only two issues with Tuono for me is that the footpegs are positioned way too high plus it provides very less wind protection.

This thing is a rocket, you won't regret it.

      Hey Kadz,
The Tuono V4 is an awesome machine and one of the class leaders for plenty of good reasons.
That said, the Multi Pikes Peak doesn't leave much on the table in terms of raw sportiness. Sure, a focused super-naked can do some more at the racetrack but isn't designed to carry luggage or offer the type of comfort the PP has.
Give it a whirl and I think you'll be impressed. I'd keep the Tuono for trackdays, unless you want to use the PP for track duty, too.
      Take care!

I have a 1260 Pikes Peak and i find it big. It makes my Monster 1200R look like a dwarf. The V4 Pikes Peak is even bigger. Your Tuono will ride circles around the Multistrada. If I were you, I'd look into a higher screen and adjustable foot-peg spacers before spending a king's ransom on a trade. Moreover, knightdesignllc for example makes affordable lower foot pegs for your Tuono for less than $200. There are many others. Search for "lower foot-pegs Tuono 2019".

No, this model cannot use reverse/GP Shift patterns.

      Hey Paul,
Much of the footage was filmed on California State Route 74, near Palm Springs, California. There is some incredible riding in that area, and if you ever have the opportunity, I'd highly recommend checking it out.
      Take care!
