Troy thanks for all the videos. Had the paint fail on my fuel pump. So had to replace the fuel pump (stripped the old one but it was RS), clean the fuel rail, remove and get the injectors cleaned. Manged to get it all back together (watching the vid's). Runs like a dream now. Saved me a fortune, and it was a great experience.... Cheers from Australia.

    Troy,
Thanks for the great vid. Gave me the confidence to do this as well. Couple of additional comments based on my experience with a 2005 5.0 GXi-E:
    * I used my shop air to blow around the injectors prior to removing them. Then I squirted some penetrant and then twisted them back a fourth a few times to help them release. Despite all that I did have one stick and followed your advice on where to grab it > finally came out and was still usable.
    * With the short season we have in New England, I chose to do this at season’s end post pulling out the boat. But knowing I needed to also get it winterized and unsure of how long it would take to get back the injectors, I bought an aftermarket injector set for less than fifty and installed them prior to taking the boat into the shop for its winterization thus eliminating any timing issues. Got mine back after a few weeks and reinstalled them in the spring. Now I have an extra set in case of issues. Cheap insurance.
Mine were very dirty prompting the Injector Service to comment that I should be changing my fuel filter more routinely. Of course, I do that, but the real issue was the dreaded VP Fuel Pump internal paint flaking off. And your service of doing the rebuild on my pump solved that problem a few years ago. For those unfamiliar please see Troy’s vids and on this and his service. Its well worth it!

Great video Troy! Now I know what my winter project will be after this season is over. Thanks again for the great informative video! You're the only one that I can find that has great info on the Volvo motor! Keep up the great work!

Huge shout out and thanks! I just did the injectors on my Volvo Penta 8.1 and my boat is running like new. A couple of small changes in procedures for me though, maybe help others with 8.1 motors.
    1) my wiring harness is attached to the fuel rails, so disconnect the harness and remove attached to the injectors with the fuel rail. 2) There was a lot more fuel in mine, so be prepared with lots of rags (probably because my injectors were pretty clogged).
    3) I could only get 4 new injectors, so I purchased a $12 injector cleaning kit off Amazon, cleaned them myself, reinstalled the 4 best ones along with 4 new ones. I sent the worst ones out for professional cleaning. This way I'm not without a running boat.

Where did you get the new injectors? Got a part number by chance?

Great video, helped me a bunch. One tip - don't put back the cotter pin for the throttle linkage until done. I left it in and when pulling the injectors off the pin went in to my hand and busted me up pretty good. Maybe use some mechanic gloves as well. Thanks for making this video Troy, saved me a ton.

Troy I followed the directions on your excellent video, however I am hoping I can get some advice one of the injectors has come out of the block missing the rubber o ring retainer its the metal circular ring at the bottom of the Injector that appears to be used to hold the O ring in place , I fear it has fallen into the port , any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hi Troy I have a 1994 Volvo Penta with a MPI Ford 5.0L 302 ci V-8 that starts & runs great whenever it's cold, however after it's at operating temperature it is frequently hard to start (acting flooded) for the first two or so attempts and then it will finally fire up & runs excellent again. I performed a tune up on it last month which involved; new spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, rotor cap, rotor, four blade prop, & went through and cleaned the flame arrestor, & other components with carb cleaner. I've discovered that the boat has never been tuned, the plus side is it's running like a top now, & I know what has been replaced since '94. I was wondering what it will cost to have my injectors cleaned? do they come off the same way as the ones in your video after I have taken everything off(air intake plenum, fuel rail etc.)? Do you know or have any idea what could be causing the starting issues? thanks for your videos I've learned valuable information from them!

Troy, do you still recommend HPI as an injector cleaning service provider? I just pulled mine tonight and am planning to send to them but want to make sure there’s no negative experience that you or anyone else has had with them. They seem to be a good company, but these are my injectors! Lol! Want to be sure…

Having trouble with my 2004 volvo penta 8.1 liter fuel regulator. I need to change it and am wondering if it unscrews? I don't see a "c" clip holding it in place. I have a picture I can send. Do I need to replace my whole rail just for the regulator. The regulator is change but the whole rail is $800.00. Hope you know. Like your videos.

Troy, thanks for the great videos! I have a 5.7 gi running rough, did full tuneup but still running rough and getting a lot of vibration at idle, will
smooth as throttle is increased, could this be my injectors? Thanks Joe!

It is possible. Check your fuel pressures to rule out the fuel pump

My fuel pressures were good. It was really more of a feeling because the paint chips had gone through the fuel system it just seemed that they would be affected
