Welcome to the official CZcams channel of The Monkees, home of 60s chart-topping hits âLast Train To Clarksville,â âIâm A Believerâ and âDaydream Believer,â as well as multi-platinum, #1 albums âThe Monkees,â âMore of the Monkees,â âHeadquartersâ and âPisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.â
Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatlesâ A Hard Dayâs Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

My freind my John Fitzgerald Kennedy actuality wrote this!
My brother was in Vietnam and my sisters and I sat at home watching our three-channel T.V. for whatever news we could get about the war. These wonderful songs put a smile on our faces as we sang along to the 45's we collected.
Itâs sad that Micky is the last one remaining, but it also warms heart that he is still here to keep the memories of his bandmates alive.
RIP Micheal Nesmith. Believe it or not, back in the 80s they were still showing reruns of the Monkees on Saturday mornings after cartoons. What a treat. Kids who stream will never understand nor the satisfaction of Saturday mornings.
Yep. RIP Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork and Davy Jones. God bless you, Micky Dolenz. I also remember Saturday mornings watching 'The Monkees' in the early 80's reruns. Heck of a theme tune.
I also remember watching a couple of the reruns in the late 70âs (my cartoon age).
Now I know I'm an old-timer. I watched the in the 70s.
Yeah I was one of those lucky kids to have watched the monkees after Saturday morning cartoons.
I saw reruns as a teenager in the 2010's thanks to channel 26. Their show and music will always have a special place in my heart.
Listening to this the day of Michael Nesmith's passing. I hope Peter and Davey greeted you at the pearly gates with open arms, Mike.

And his mother, too. He really loved her and she was a good mother to him
She was a Secretary who INVENTED Liquid Paper. Eventually sold the patent for 48 million back in the late 70's and died suddenly afterwards at age 56. True story.

Great memories from my younger days. đ
Born in 1960 I had the pleasure of growing up in the 60âs and 70âs and watching The Monkeys on t.v. I miss those days immensely!

Born in 83 and at least had a very passionate Dad who taught me all about the good music from his time đ
My father showed me the monkees and I love them so much
Can you tell us something more about that era, how was life back then?
1963! we got the best of everything.
Ah the innocent days . Wish we could go back to this .
Innocent!!?? I don`t know where you were in the late 60`s, but
Oh, you mean you donât like the wokeness, the gender confusion, the trans activism, Bidenomics, the Ukraine war, inflation, invasion on our southern border, fentanyl, Joe Biden, the corrupt Marxist Democrat party

*WHAT!?!?* *'Wool Cap Mike' is gone?*
*I didn't know*
( *Like Lennon said in '70 "Don't worry over us, we're alright and so are you and everything you liked of the 'Beatles' is still here, all the records and the films and all that will still be around...we gave you fans the best we had for years and years and now it's time for a long rest and none of you would like to hear and see us at forty or something..."* )
__________
*How wrong he was and didn't know it!*
__________
* 'The Monkees' will live-on long after all the original fans are gone, and that wouldn't be true unless there was real talent and chemistry involved between them, because although a camera may not 'tell the truth of things'...it doesn't 'lie' either*
*WE know the difference between 'fake' and 'real' and what we saw and heard from the 'American Fab Four' was real even if it was never intended to be*
__________
*I saw an interview with Nesmith here on 'Tube and he talked about Peter Tork and how Mike seemed to just 'always not quite right' and "Not the friend I should've been" with Peter in being 'not enemies but not close the way we should have been' and that when an assistant told him where he working said "I just heard that Peter has died" it felt "Like I was kicked in the guts and my heart stopped because I never got the the chance to tell him I loved him and didn't know it and now it's too late to even say goodbye to him*
( *Mike looked like he going to burst into tears right on camera and trying hard not to* )
__________
*I have a friend 'Leon' that I knew from Kindergarten all the way to 7th. grade and we were always 'pals' but what I didn't realize was how poor he was...I had no real concept of what it meant to not have any money in a pocket for a snack or matinee movies or a bag of candy*
*My family was not 'rich' at all but there was always money for me to have for lunch at school and for 'after' and I always got 'movie money' at least twice a month and Leon had none of that and the 'little house' he and his mom lived-in would be considered 'cheap' and 'poor' even in the late '50's thru the '60's in Dearborn, Mi.*
*How I wish I could see him now after more than fifty-years have passed, and tell him "I'm sorry for not being a better friend than I was but I just didn't know any better and now that I know it makes my heart hurt that I wasn't as good to you as you were to me and I'M SORRY*
( *We moved from Dearborn to Las Vegas in early '68 and I never even thought to say 'Goodbye' to him and get his address so I could write to him or maybe call sometimes* )
*WHAT AN A-HOLE I WAS TO HIM and I still don't understand 'Why?'*
RIP to a great musician & entertainer

This song hits close to home. I always been a daydreamer.
This and imagine by John Lennon are perfect songs.
I wish someone would write a song inspired by both.
@@williamp9117 That would be awesome. These are 2 of my favorite songs.
They did though... Some of their best songs were written by Mike & Micky
This song is 2 minutes and 46 seconds of pure joy. None of today's songs can match its melody, lyrics and hook.
That's because writing music has become a lost art. Computer programs do the writing now based on an algorithm of what people supposedly want. This is why there has not been a popular song with a key change since 2002. They no longer know how to write a proper melody and don't understand how to use key changes and time changes to enhance and color the mood(s) of a song. That is what's missing from modern music. It reminds me of the Bowie / Ronson collaboration. Bowie wrote the songs on guitar and brought a very crude and basic structure to Ronson who then molded that song into the tunes we know and love. Ronson created the arrangements, key changes and time shifts. That was all 100% Ronson.
Couldnât agree more. â€

Another fun song easy to sing along with đđđđ
Two years ago my wife went into hospital for a major operation. I dropped her off there, made sure she was checked into her ward and left as she was taken down into theatre.
I got in my car, turned on the radio and as I drove away from the hospital this song came on. I broke down in tears and had to pull the car over. You see, her late Mum was called Jean and as youngsters they used to sing this to her "Cheer up sleepy Jean". To me this meant her Mum was watching over her and the worry drained away from me and I just knew for certain that she was going to be ok.
Sure enough after a nine hour operation she pulled through and is now fine. I have always loved this song but even more so now.
Daily I give my thanks to the wonderful surgical team, her Mum Jean and Davy Jones.

Sweet. Thank you
Bill Haley This happened to a friends mom she turned on the radio and heard bob Marley say hush little sister don't shed a tear and that happened when she was cringing because her brother just died and it was a older brother, many weird things happened to my friend and his family after their uncles death.

One of the best feel good songs in all pop. Well done, Monkees. Why they aren't in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is unbelievable.
Not only one of the greatest songs of the '60s, but furthermore one of the greatest songs of all-time. Peter Tork's memorable piano lines and Eddie Hoh's drumming makes "Daydream Believer" the classic that it is.
HereHere! Thinking of the perfect song where everything fits in its place, this is it.

The teens and 21-25`s now are into nothing but digitized rep/hip hop and have no attention span because of the tach. you speak of. They react to these old tunes(check out reaction vids) and take rock lyrics literally , not understanding analogies or poetic license. World in 2024 sucks.
I miss all of you, The Monkees!
Yikes you scared me. Micky's still here!
Rest in Peace, Peter. Say hello to Davey for everyone!
Really??? He's dead. They're both dead. What happens to you when you're dead is that you cease being able to do the things you could do when you were alive.
Mark M Youâre an atheist. I get it. Enjoy your limited existence.

The Monkees are just timeless I'm still listening in 2020 who else is still listening???
August 2, 2020 here. It's so sad Davy and Peter are gone. I bought Davy's book many years ago, it was a fun read. And The Monkees are timeless, I agree. I used to hurry home from school so I could watch their show.
I meaannn, Im not trying to be the bad one here but most people who kinda clicked the video might be listening to it... I'm just trying to be honest xD
EDIT: I also liked the comment to agree with you.
Wonderful memories đđ
I am. I grew up listening to these guys. My sister had a Monkees collage on her bedroom wall, and their music rang off the walls of our home for years, along with the Smothers Brothers,, Wayne Newton, Johnny Mathis, Ed Ames and many others. It was a great time to be a kid.
Meeeeeđđđ
they were part of my childhood. their music and their tv show. i miss those days. đ
Couldn't agree more. Wonderful memories
Just woke up from a nap, instantly listened to The Rolling Stones, and now Iâm here. Thank god for them

@@SUGAR_XYLER It is weird isn't it? I always considered seven to be a magical number in some way.
RIP Michael, thank you for bringing joy into my childhood as I struggle with life's trials. You plus the other Monkees made me forget what was happening. You gave me peace and rest for a short while as I enjoyed the show on Saturday morning.
I'm sorry to hear you had an unhappy childhood. Absolutely no child should be put through anything but love. I'm glad the Monkees could free you if only for a while x
Same here. Rip Michael with Davy in heaven.
@@vilmalugay3401 And Peter!
hello how are you doing today?
I love this song Forever!â€
This is a fun song .I'm a millennial was born in 1992. My dad was a baby boomer born in 1957 .I use to listen to a lot of music from the 60s with my dad especially the Beatles when I was age 7 -12 I was fascinated with the time erra he grew up .he also told me one time when he was growing up they only had 4 tv channels .I was like what ?!!! .lol and when I was 8 he introduced me to and showed me what vinyl records were .good memories but yeah he use to listen to the Monkees also .I like in this video it definitely feels like a time warp into the 60s the background .the style of clothing .and the song is really good
Three, four, or five TV channels was the usual for most cities, and if you had a good antenna you could get most of them pretty clearly in the suburbs and even a ways out into the sticks. And they went off the air at midnight, and played a "test pattern" (look it up, some of them were pretty trippy) until 5 or 6 AM when they started broadcasting again. And all of that got broadcast not only to the planet Earth, but out into space. Some of it has already reached the nearest stars.
I watched the Monkees every week when they were on TV originally...I watched them endlessly on Saturday mornings in the 70's... I played their albums over and over...and over again. Their songs and images like this video are engrained in my brain and my soul. It just breaks my heart that Mickey is the only one left now. Rest in Peace guys. Critics and nay-sayers be damned over the years...I hope you guys all know how much you meant to us, your fans.
Oh no! Davie and Peter have passed? :(

The Monkees were a staple of Saturday morning summer holiday tv in the UK during the 70's...Loved their show...Brings back memories!đ

Idk why it's fitting for watching people who just spent their night terrified and are either dead or still alive
My mum's name is Jean and this is her song! Unfortunately, she now has dementia so this makes me sad/happy

Groovy!! †the way Davey dances.
Today, I have tears in my eyes listening to this.... just as I did when Peter passed in 2019..... youâll be missed, mike.... so so much along with Peter and Davy. Thank you for the music, memories and happiness đ

Here listening to this amazing time classic
The last song my Mom heard with me, while she was alive...and in front of her bed I said..."Look Mommy, I'm Davy Jones!" And started to dance like Davy...and she smiled and laughed. She died 3 days later, Dec. 23, 2019 at the age of almost 93. What a great memory!
I know how you feel. Takes me back to a time, when I still had my parental figures in my life.

The Monkees may have been a manufactured band, but they were good. Like, really really really really good.
+Gideon H. The Beetles were manufactured as well.
*****
They had manager didn't they? They obviously worked on their image. You know most people say the Beatles were simply not very good live. They were mostly a studio band. Not saying they didn't have some creative stuff going on. But live they didn't deliver. The Monkees were more talented performance wise.
+Meade Skelton you do know as the beatles grew they experientented more in the studio, making they're music more creative. a lot of those sounds are hard to create live. also it would be hard to judge how good the beatles sounds when thousands of girls are screaming at tops of they're lungs
Richard Lynch
"Creative". Um okay. I don't think repeating "number 9 a thousand times over a bass guitar is very creative, but I guess that's just me. Performance art is creativity in of itself. The Monkees had it. Elvis had it. Its magic. The Beatles didn't have it.
matesc e. Ok
This song could TOTALLY work and be a hit in 2024!
It absolutely could not. They would have to make it unrecognizable
I was 13 when this song debut. I am 70 now

Mike once said this was his favorite of the tunes Davy sang and I agree. One of their best songs. Hard to believe Davys gone 3 years already. Love the Monkees!
Davy Jones could play the drums better than Mickey. He also played the piano, guitar, and saxophone!
And now Peter's gone too
The unmistakable voice of Davy Jones

A few months back, my aunt and I went to the Monkees Farewell Tour which featured Micky and Michael. It was a good show, and after today, I'm thankful we got to see the remaining two before it became the remaining one. Rest in peace, Michael Nesmith. You will be missed down here.
