I guess Dan wasn't lying when he kept saying "theyre still drawing it" when asked why these seasons take so long lol
And when they made the covid joke, lmaooo
They recently said they're working on writing season 7 right now. Seasons 5 comes out in June, I bet Season 6 is already voiced. Just needs drawn.
Yup. And to think, this type of animation, vector graphics, is about 10x faster than traditional, Disney-golden age style animation. Those Myazaki films that take literally a decade to put together.
thats not why the seasons take so long, please educate yourself before commenting false information
@@Jaxck77 it depends.. bug shots with a lot of characters might be easier in traditional animation (depends on the kind tho) just because composing and finishing each asset just for a small sequence it's so jarring and takes so long for minimal pay off

funx24x7 sure they do. It’s called a paycheck.
ace_v290 That’s compensation, not recognition.
funx24x7 why would you expect them to get the same recognition when they are not at the for front of the show. It’s like getting upset for a stunt double not getting the same recognition as the main actor.
Cash Cow stunt doubles are pretty underrated too though, they deserve their own kind of recognition, the actors get their own as well so it’s just Whats fair.
TxV UNIVERSE it’s a business it’s not supposed to be “fair” people don’t go to movie theaters to see stunt doubles they go so see their favorite ACTORS just like people don’t watch tv shows to know who writers or animates them they watch them to see they’re favorite characters and to what the voice actors. Everyone else behind the scenes gets their recognition in the after credits. There is no need for them to have more than that it is just unnecessary

The animators on this show really don't get enough credit. The animation is pretty dynamic and immersive. They do a good job of accentuating the tiny little nuances of the voice acting through the expressions and body language of the characters. Which is a big reason the show is so hilarious.
Oh wow. I would seriously watch a whole show of this. Amazing work, getting everything done so quickly and with such high quality.
When they need inspiration for alien character names they just look into the beautiful pink void on that mans head and the answer will appear in their mind.
Gotta drop a HUGE shout out to our amazing animation, BG, build, comp and FX crew at Bardel in Vancouver. Once again, an incredible feat accomplished in such a short amount of time. Great job everyone!
The rick and morty animation team deserves all the love and respect from the fan base. I mean the work these people pour into these animation for our enjoyment. Just perfect.
They look stressed out. This feels like the beginning of a burnout like when japanese animators get overworked to reach a short deadline and it hurts the quality of the show.
2 years is not a short deadline lmao

Right? The animation is good, but their pace of production is glacial, even accounting for that.
@@joestevenson5568 yeah, as a fellow artist and animator I get that's it's a very, very lengthy process, but compare it to family guy or american dad, which my friend animated for, they are so much slower to the point where you wonder if they're even concerned about pace of production. Yes it's nice that the animation is better than most adult swim shows, but you'd think they'd be better at time management

Well to be fair I'd like to know whether we're weeks away, months away, or years away. Which is a lot more of a legitimate question compared to most productions.
The first season was impressive for an animated tv show and every new season just gets better and better! Unlike some other shows where production value goes down overtime.
Jordan M. Lacroix I disagree the last season wasn’t very good, S2 maybe S3 was the best
Season 3 was the worst, season 2 the best and season 4 seems pretty decent
@@nichl474 Well I'm talking about the animation itself, I'm not sure how I would rank the seasons overall myself!
I actually didn’t like season 4 at all. I was actually amazed because I was actually bored in some of the episodes. The dragon episode is just an embarrassment, it was just another iteration of a used formula (Morty asks Rick for something, like a love potion or a sex bot, but everything goes wrong, he transforms everyone into mutants and has a son, and they solve it by the end of the episode) and the only “joke” it had (that I can even remember) was the soulbonding-orgy thing, but they overused it too much and it wasn’t even that funny to begin with. They also make Rick completely powerless in magic land and Morty super powerful, which was a cool concept, until he got a new weapon and went back to the status quo. I found the other episodes, aside from the first, to be pretty mediocre, although this is all my opinion. But even if you liked season 4, I think it still doesn’t hold a candle to the other seasons.
@@martincooper2175 Yeah, the dragon episode was very boring, but in my opinion episodes 1 and 2 were good, episode 5 was acceptable, though still not that good and episode 3 was a total surprise, because it was so purposefully bad that it became good in the end.

I would love to see more of these. Adult Swim is so understated about its devotion to animation as an art, but they back it like few networks would. I love them for it.
Fox was once a powerhouse of animation, but Adult Swim has had hit after hit of critically acclaimed animated shows getting slept on by most viewers.
For me, I love comedic animation. It can be more comedic, in ways both silly and dark, than live action comedy could ever hope to be. Fairly often, I face a stigma when I share that viewpoint to others, but no one has yet to address the point and persuade me differently,
I love watching this show when im high. its like the visuals were made for high people.
i may not know what good animation takes to produce but i still admire these guys for pouring this much effort into Rick and Morty
I'm never going to be able to watch another episode without thinking about the amount of work that went into this and putting myself in that impossible situation. Thanks, adult swim.
God, Rick and Morty is such an amazing show. The amount of detail is so much better than any other show out there.
The software used for primary production, and the software that is shown in this clip, is Toon Boom Harmony. It is not open source or free, but is the best 2D animation software commercially available. You can also sail the high seas for it with success. Google "countryboy toonboom", that's all I'll say. What's cool about the software is that it has very powerful node compositing built in to achieve what would otherwise be done in after effects, but in a fraction of the time. Have fun!
I have the program. It's pretty pricy but it works really well
@@sharpytown It really is. I wish that they would take on a business model such as UE4 where they charge based on revenue earned/ production setting so that I wouldn't have to blatantly recommend pirating it to would-be consumers. The best I've ever been able to afford was it under a student discount and even that was hundreds of dollars a year.
