    VIDEO CONTENT:
    In this video I take answer a question which has been sent into the channel. The questioner asked whether I trained speed and power type jumpers differently. So, this led me to produce this video. I talk about the needs of each time and indeed what in my opinion defines each type.
    We look at the central nervous system and its affect on how much training a type of jumper can do.
    We consider what quantity and type of running best suits each type.
    And we also look at how the types respond to weight training and plyos for example.
    I hope that the information provided will help you better train yourself or those who coach.
    Please note these are my ideas and experiences - no doubt some of your will have other thoughts, if you do please let me know!

    Great video! I wish I had this kind of info when I was jumping nationally. Being a shorter, strength based jumper, I was often trained to be similar to a speed jumper, but I responded much better to bounding and slower contact time exercises.
    Now I'm into mostly strength training/powerlifting and I still incorporate plyometrics into my routine to maintain athleticism. I'm hoping to get back into long and triple jump after 10 years since competing. I will spend the next 8 month conditioning to get into 'jumping' shape and see how it goes!

    Hi John very fascinating video. Regarding triple jump hop phase, Do you have any tips on getting a straight leg upon landing transition from hop to step? As my knee seems to be to bent on contact with the ground (before the knee absorbs contact with the ground) Thank you :)

    Thanks coach. Great information. Do you find that speed jumpers produce more fouls than the other types? I’m having more trouble with consistency with my speed jumpers. Thoughts?

    • @Johnshepherdtrackcoach
      @Johnshepherdtrackcoach  Před 3 lety +2

      Not really ... perhaps if they also sprint a lot in races and do less specific long jump work, they may be running differently ie with less consistency on the run-up vis a vis the slower jumper (who may not be running competitive sprints so much). I’ve found it’s all about repetition and getting those final steps very consistent and deliberate. Hope this helps.

      @@Johnshepherdtrackcoach Thanks coach. Her approach is definitely inconsistent. She’s jumping 18’7 at the moment but has the potential to go 20+ with corrections to the takeoff and landing.

      I have thought about doing some videos on improving speed and power for other sports and may make a video to see how it's received on the channel. Do checkout the plyo playlist as there are plenty of ideas in this which will help improve your jump. All the best. czcams.com/play/PLjem5W-IsVn9n1tAvYSQrn9TG8B-vu2aa.html
