The Spartan IIIs were basically the UNSCs most effective offensive weapon against the covenant. And yes, more effective than any Spartan II. Costs and numbers alone could win that battle. Call them human shaped superweapons or tools at least, not cannon fodder lol.
They were never thrown uselessly at enemy forces or to stall for time. They almost always completed some of the most dangerous and insane missions of the war. It's just the one or two missions where things go wrong and the entire company is massacred that stands out, and they still succeeded. They were treated and used as real Spartans, with similar results, just without plot armour or the extra advantages of Mjolnir.
Chief just gives us a ridiculously unequal view of how important the different spartan programs were.
Genetics, canonical luck/natural talent (Halsey's coin), experience, armour quality, and bone density. Spartan IIs had all these advantages. It makes sense their survival rate was higher, and they were better soldiers by most standards.
But IIIs had the greater motivations, were given better training, better chemical augmentations, basically, they were tempered into better weapons, made into better killers, better tools from ONIs and the UNSCs viewpoint. Noble 6 was given a lethality rating equal to chief. Carter was the highest ranking Spartan in the war, IIs included. Probably precisely because of his drive, and because he was seen as more controllable than a Spartan II.

Thank you, I have always said it, that the Spartans III were the ones who fought the hardest battles without receiving any credit, and without forgetting that the majority at this point would not be more than 14 years old
For me they will always be the best, they are the heroes who will never receive recognition, will never know their names or will be remembered for their sacrifice.
That even the lore itself has forgotten them, the few survivors remain hidden, working from the scraps on missions that no one else would do, posing as common Spartans IV.
I've always thought that Bungie purposely made the Spartans III who are dead in the last mission of Halo Reach not have defined armor, so that you wouldn't even know who they were, that they went on missions that never happened, with armor that was never used by Spartans who they never went

Spartan II's were really only larger than IIIs because by the time of the IIIs, Spartan IIs were all fully grown and had been fighting for decades. IIIs were still technically children at that point. Give them time, and they would grow and get taller. Lucy is the ONLY Spartan III to be canonical smaller than normal. On the same side, comparing Noble Team's heights to Jorge is also bad, because Jorge is an absolute UNIT, even compared to other Spartan IIs.
Other than that tiny nitpick, Spartan IIIs truly were some of the best around, and I HATE that so many people seem to think they are worse than IIs, or that they were made to be thrown away (ONI treated them like shit, but they weren't designed for that in mind). Love seeing videos like this that give the real facts about the best bunch of orphans around.

      @saltpoweredrobot5625 Před 4 měsíci +16

@@Bryan-uw1ny ...yes, because they are still technically children/teenagers by the end of the war. The Spartan IIIs of Noble team (and in Reach in general), are not fully grown, so comparing their heights to Elites or Jorge, canonical one of the TALLEST Spartan IIs, is misleading.
With regards to augmentations, IIs had a ceramic material grafted to their bones, so they were given super puberty drugs before their augmentations to make them fully grown, all so that their bones didn't painfully break due to growing older and the ceramic limiting said growth. Spartan III's augmentations where chemical, and said augmentations chemically reinforced their bones, which allowed them to grow naturally without breaking.
Why is it so hard to believe that one generation of Spartans is as good, or nearly as good as another? It's not like the III's are cocky arrogant bastards who strut around talking about how great they are (like the damn IV's...).

I don't exactly like when people say that Spartan 3's were disposable. Quite often during the Human Covenant War, when humans lost, they lost catastrophically. Alpha and Beta were only wiped out because of circumstances out of their control. Both had extraction plans and weren't just suicide troops sent on suicide missions. They were dangerous, yes, but they weren't just thrown into a meat grinder with no plan.
Alpha company was cut off from their extraction by a fleet descending from orbit during their mission.
When Beta company encountered the mass threat of several cruisers that were missed during recon and were ordered to retreat. The only reason the facility was destroyed because a team continued on against orders (the team of which lucy and tom belonged to)

Noble Six does hold Hyper lethal, something that for the twos, only Chief holds. Imagine if the UNSC had refined mjolnir production to the point it had in halo 4 onwards earlier on in the war. The 2s would still dominate, no doubt. But the 3s purpose would shift from suicide missions to actual special ops soldiers. Imagine noble team, on a army wide scale. Fun fact about Spartan IIIs, some on the Spartan III candidates had a genetic profile that would have qualified them to be selected for the Spartan II program. These candidates were called Cat 2s as a result.
These Cat 2s had a far greater affinity for the augmentations and as a result were almost as strong and fast as Spartan IIs. With the only visible difference being Spartan IIIs were average height.
Every member of Noble team was a Cat 2. Explaining why they were just as strong as George.

no, cat 2s weren't *almost* as strong and fast they *were* as strong and fast as a spartan ii. same genetics, same efficacy and augmentations and the same mjolnir suits. they were IIs in all but name. baseline IIIs were just as good as the average II, the slightly looser genetics wouldn't of suddenly downgraded them by 20-40% out of nowhere. they were still cream of the crop.

I’ve always had an appreciation for Spartan III’s, primarily because they are the most relatable to me.
I’m a rather seasoned vet of Halo, having played nearly since birth & the beginning of the IP. Spartan III’s share some of my favourite armour styles in the whole franchise. Spartan III’s also have one of my favourite Spartan branches directly associated to them specifically; Headhunters. Spartan III’s are also very unsung in comparison to Spartan II’s (I’m not big on the spotlight, for the most part).
Most importantly, I fight like a Kriegsman, or at least, that’s what my friends & I call myself (Krieg’s are from Warhammer 40K). Kriegsman are very suicidal in their tactics & not only have no fear of death, but encourage it, if a goal is accomplished from it. Spartan III’s are the same, in this regard. I am the same, in this regard.

I used to be in a lot of clans back when Reach wasn't as dead as it is now and even then, SIII's were barely respected in comparison to SII's (at least from my experience, being a non-canon SIII probably helped make it worse). Im paraphrasing here but there was a log from the AI endless winter where he confessed to kurt that he had forged communications from kurt to pull certain spartans from beta company prior to the operation. It doesnt confirm but certainly implies that he did the same prior to the Alphas nearly being wiped out. Im a big fan of the change because i think it keeps the lore of Ghosts of Onyx and in general kurts team focused character more intact. I love the Spartan-IIIs, and they’re my favourite part of the lore. On average, they’re on par with the Spartan-IIs, and now that I’ve covered that community misconception (which was also covered in the video), there were Cat-2 Spartan-IIIs, and I can’t confirm if this is canon or my headcanon, but those Spartans had the same gentic criteria Halsey used to select the Spartan-IIs and thus these Spartan-IIIs were given Mjolnir and deployed similarly to the S-IIs.
Everyone knows of Noble, but some other Cat-2 Spartan-III teams to mention who were also present on Reach are Gauntlet, Red and Echo that Jun mentions during the ending cutscene for New Alexandria. Now I know some may think he was talking about the Spartan-II Red Team mentioned in The Fall of Reach book (which is different again from the Halo Wars Red Team), but it was confirmed by 343 in a canon fodder to be a Spartan-III team. There was also an unknown Spartan-III Fireteam who were also at Harmony (which is in the same system as Reach) who died defending a civilian evac site in the Capital.
The last one (which is more a theory and headcanon of mine) is those we see in Halo Infinite’s Season 1 cinematic trailer who drop in and save Agryna, and while it could be Spartan-IIs, I don’t see them being deployed like that considering how few there potentially are. It makes more sense for it to be Spartan-IIIs who are tasked to clear out Covenant areas. As for the armour, there was a GEN1 Mk. VII Mjolnir armour, so it all adds up, oh and at this time in Halo, the Spartan-IVs didn’t exist yet, so it couldn’t be that class. Anyways, that’s all I have to say

I think a great example of how desperate humanity was are the spartan III's. They were not made to be canon fodder, but humanitys back was so far up against the wall they just threw them into death to buy time. Most were still teenagers while fighting. They were just as effective as II's just way to young to be at their best, had near a decade less experience and their gear was so much worse.

I feel so damn validated when people talk about Spartan IIIs, I remember seeing that headhunter short movie in Halo legends after borrowing it from a library as a kid and being so confused, sad and in awe of how cool those spartans were, yet despite that they died
Rewatching it again after having binged lore videos, read the books and played some of the games (sorry lol, I should make time to play them all). The spartan IIIs honestly felt more grounded in their story and "relatability" with them being orphans and whatnot, their "professional angst" and how it carried to their more gruff and "antisocial" mannerisms, where Spartan IIs may have secluded themselves and been more robotic (which I also love given the context), I bet a Spartan III might have tossed a joke or told someone to flat out "Fuck off"
If you want to see a pretty decent real life parallel to the Spartan IIIs in terms of personality and mannerisms, I think the Mali-Afghan era Legion Etrangere (French Foreign Legion) is really fucking close, people that were rejected by the world, people with nowhere to go and people hoping for either a second chance or death find the Legion to be their only family. Effectively specializing in light infantry and mobilized infantry roles, La Legion did a great job portraying themselves like WWII era pathfinders who were parachuted with a person-to-mission gear ratio of 3:1 because they had such a low life expectancy, they were dropped in larger teams knowing most of them would perish
To add to that, La Legion has specialized infantry: GCP, FOS/DINOPS and GCM - Dedicated Paratroopers, Explosives experts that are also combat divers and saboteurs from my understanding, Mountain/Arctic/Dive warfare and EOD specialists respectively
There's just something about being so mad and alone that you crave death, both yourself and those that took away the things your found precious and how that affects your mannerisms that is so...interesting to me for lack of better word
These people earned the right to stare into death's face, spit in it and throw themselves into it's maw with a damn smile on their face

Technically the sIIIs are augmentations are superior as well. Most of them are chemically/ genetically introduced. For example the sIIIs have literal metal bones compared to metal coated. The only reason why they never really lived up to the legend of the sIIs because they never lived long enough for the augmentations to grow with them.

Onyx was destroyed so Delta never progressed. Anything about what was meant to be Delta hasn't been officially spoken of so that's free for speculation.

Actually. It isn't fully confirmed by how strong the Spartan IIIs could get. Due to their augments working with the body instead of against it like the Spartan II. It was stated Spartan III could get taller, stronger and faster than Spartan IIs because the bodies of Spartan II had to grow up before the augments. This didn't need to happen with the Spartan III..... Which means someday we might see Spartan IIIs being stronger, faster and better than Spartan IIs and Spartan 4s.

They are by now means as effective as II's let's be real here. They were indeed disposable especially since they were given a less lethal and effective dosage of drugs and augmentations as the II. Halsey's spartans were specifically handpicked. The best of the best talented kids.

Sadly the misconception that S3s are weaker than 2s and even sometimes 4s are still circulating among the fandom. Even though the full breakdown of their augments as stated by installation 00 shows almost identical improvements except their chemically implanted likely causing a longer adaptation period which means they start growing of the lower base parameters of pre-adapted body while S2s only need to heal and then after healing the body almost instantly adapts to the max post augmentation parameters of their capabilities and starts growing from then onwards causing the strongest boys and girls to grow up even stronger as opposed to S3s that grow starting from an "about to be some of the strongest and fastest boys and girls" phase as they still age while the chemicals sit in the body and the body slowly adapts which means their not developing from peak post augmentation capabilities but instead growing from a stage where their only about to hit peak post augmentation capabilities causing less higher highs but almost exactly the same lows and everything in between as S2.
S4s on the other hand need constant maintenance written or mentioned somewhere in H4 or was it spartan ops that S4s aren't meant for long term deployments as both their armors and augments need constant maintenance. It was never specified which augments need several touch ups before fully sitting in permanently on the adult S4 or if anything is permanent at all or if they will suffer some kind of of side effect or outright lose super soldier capabilities if they miss or ain't maintained though. Which is also why the infinity catered to spartan 4s with so much space and machines and facilities just for S4 support.
Also much like the 4s program wise the 3s were manier all through out the war. There was like less than 20 living S2's after reach and most were behind enemy lines or lost somewhere like blue team so most of the "demons" of the later half of the war were 3s and quite likely to have been the ones that got elites to start calling helmed humans demons until they got to distinguish between chief's mjolnir, ODSTs and SPI and figured out that there are "Demons" and then there's "THE DEMON" and then the "Imps". So yeah program wise Spartan 3s were better and served humanity more and got more jobs done.

    • @unclesamlore
      @unclesamlore  Před 4 měsíci

Oh yeah, 100%. The main difference in strength applies more to mjolnir being a better suit for enhancing strength. Also this impression comes from the fact that chief is a spartan 2. And he is the biggest outlier and has literal lore plot armor because of the stuff with the librarian in halo 4. When it comes to average spartans, the 3s excel in many ways and are just as good as their various counterparts, despite them being my favorite. Thanks for watching!

You forgot the Category 2 Spartan IIIs, or CAT2s. A group distinct and debatably more elite than even the Headhunters, although a number of them were likely deployed as Lone Wolf operatives. They were only ever mentioned once or twice but were explicitly referred to by Kurt as "children she would have chosen" had they been born decades earlier. Basically children that met Halsey's criteria and who happened to enlist in the III program by chance rather than being specifically selected by ONI. The chemical augmentations were every bit as effective with them as the IIs' improvements were, resulting in Spartans just as strong and fast as the best of the II class and with debatably far superior training.
Again, they're sadly only ever mentioned once or twice and through old, OLD Bungie lore that I'm not sure is still even accessible on their site since they retired all of their old Halo content years ago but I'm sure I could find the image/document blurb somewhere on the internet given enough time.

"Better" is subjective. Actually, no it's not. SII's were superior in every way, as far as the person goes. Reworked nervous systems etc. Gave way to much faster response times. Something like under 7ms response times. But it wasn't cost effective and so wasn't realistic to sustain. So, like the F22 versus the F35, a cheaper and more cost effective supersoldier was created. But surviving SIIs could reap the benefits of SIII and SIV upgrades...they could opt to gain any new augmentations or suit upgrades, making the SII even more deadly. But above all, what made the SII more superior, come SIIIs and SIVs was their experience out in the field. I mean, I would venture to say that Kelly, Fred and Linda and all of Red Team had probably the most "unit experience." In fact, Fred and Kelly lead Red Team at one point. Well, Fred was first in command of Red Team and Kelly second. They had pretty much been fully deployed ever since Reach. So come the SIV program they had a shit-load of experience under their belt. But having the enhanced reflexes/ superconductor nerve endings made it so that SIIs could practically see in bullet time. I hate praising the show for anything but the combat scenes are as I imagined them. It depicts the Spartan II's speed as it should be.
