🙏’s for Gromit. I was disappointed Marianne wasn’t given a
season Two💙
Just got to see this in the cinema and strangely, I found the first half or so creepier because HUGE props to Antony Starr and Lizzy Caplan, they were SO good at the unhinged parents role. The second half I was a bit mixed with. Without spoiling anything, bit of a let down to shift the focus they way they did from Starr and Caplan. That said, I think I would have liked the shift if the movie was a little longer? Though I agree, the plot with the sub teacher was a little haphazardly thrown in... I guess the same with the random douchey kid too.
Also the dream sequence was messed up 🤣 Some of the better use of the claustrophobic cameras and lighting in that part honestly!
I agree, the first half with parents was very creepy. But the second half, with the "thing" got really stupid.
just finished this film! Definitely a fairy tale more in the vein of the original Grimms tales. I didn't really mind the slower beginning or lack of context because, for me anyway, it made me pay more attention to the characters behaviors (and for once, I didn't figure it out in the first 10 min)The last 20 min. were definitely a strong pay off. I enjoyed it.
One thing that not a lot of reviewers are talking about but the way the actors scream…SPOILER WARNING BEFORE YOU READ MORE but when the bully broke his leg, THAT was a genuine scream that shook me. But when we get into the final act with the others, their screams, even the bully, felt so real..like they were actually getting ripped limb from limb in real life. I’ll give it to those actors, the bully, his cousins, every one of them had bone chilling terrified screams
Agreed. One thing going for the film is the acting. The kid was fantastic! And I HATE kid actors lol.
I celebrated 11 years with my dog yesterday, and I honestly was thinking about you the whole day! I made a little cupcake with a candle, but blew out the candle for her.. obviously lol. I made a wish for Gromit!❤
The scene where the boy is having a nightmare and his mom has red glowing eyes and she starts running towards him genuinely terrified me!
This film didn't last in theaters but it is so worth a watch!
Thank you Emma for all the great content.
Prayers for Gromit ❤
Grommet is gorgeous, sadly my greyhound died a few weeks ago, so all my love and best wishes go to bot of you. a speedy recovery to the best breed of dogs. i love your videos too.
Gromit, sorry as saw someone spell it that way so thought that was a special spelling 🥰
I hope Grommet gets better soon. I loved Marianne so I'm gonna watch this! Putting a Halloween horror movie in the middle of summer is such a weird choice haha
We appreciate your reviews. You've been really thorough with your insights.
Saw your IG story about this one a while back, I'm glad you were able to snag a screener! Seeing this soon here in Canada where it's getting a limited release. Happy that Gromit is doing well with his treatment and recovery, appreciate you keeping us all looped in! ❤
Thanks for the review. I’ll be watching this tonight. I’m a recent subscriber of your channel. Great content. I was born in 82 and got a taste for horror in the late 80s early 90s… keep bringing us quality reviews and recommendation videos. You’re in my top 3 horror related YT channels!
Thank you for the review Emma! I was happy to see Gromit in the video. I hope he's feeling ok. Lots of love for you both from your Mexican fan.
I watched a screener of this a few weeks back on my laptop in the dark and I totally had the same thought as in why didn't they release this closer to Halloween?!!
Probably cuz the FNAF film exorcist film and saw film all coming out in October and cobwebs a great horror movie kinda reminded me of one of my favorite childhood horror movies people under the stairs, but that's what I'd think is why cuz exorcist believer looks like it's definitely gonna be no.1 horror movie of the year or few years maybe
I'm never this early!! :) Hey Emma! Will definitely be watching this one. Lizzie Caplin is such a great actress!
Hope you love it!
I love this channel!
But I'm gonna have to disagree a bit.
This movie is very theatrical. The direction and cinematography are top notch and looked fantastic on the big screen.
It's a slow burn for sure in the beginning. But the setup is there. So I don't know what you're talking about with their being no setup.
They definitely could have done more with the teacher character. And added a little more to the fairytale aspect. But overall, the film is chilling and well executed. Best horror I've seen this year. And there's been a lot to come out too.
I give it a 8 out of 10. It's got the tone of something like THE BABADOOK and TRICK R TREAT meets the surprises of BARBARIAN. Plus the score is perfect. Brings that childlike Halloween whimsy. Keep up the great work. And get better Grommet! ❤
Glad you loved it! I stand by that the first act lacked but it was definitely interesting!
Gromit!!!!!!!!! I hope he is doing OK, considering everything ❤
I get really scared of horror even though I love it, so I love these videos because it makes it seem much more chill, and Doggie Presence helps a lot with that. I always say "GROMIT!!" out loud when I see him 💖
ETA: Coraline is my joint favourite movie of all time so I may have done a little chair dance when you said it was a masterpiece
AWE I love Grommet’s bandana! Adorbs! Also I was soooo happy to see his little cameo ❤️
I liked it. It didn't bowl me over, but I thought it's a good Halloween watch. Lots of love for Grommit.
Just watched this. So much better than I thought it would be. Knew those bullies were dead as soon as they drove by.
Kinda disagree regarding the beginning/first act/going in blind. My brother recommended this, I didn’t know anything about and just put it on (I did throw on headphones, which was a good move, my TV speakers weren’t cutting it with the whispers, and I didn’t have any CC options) and though it was a little slow and weird at the beginning, that just kept me invested in what was going on.
I actually really liked it…
LIGHT MAYBE SPOILERISH COMMENT AHEAD:
I thought the ending (as in the last minute or two) could’ve been different/better by adding a bit more closure to the story. Or not.
I liked it, didn’t love it, but almost!
Sweet Gromit. ❤ Also, perfect mood/setting for the movie! Sounds like an interesting one. Will have to try when it's available, and it's never too late to plan for Halloween!
I just watched it, it was pretty good. It definitely portrays childhood trauma as the main antagonist.
Just watched it, I truly enjoyed it!
Sending prayers and love and lots of pets to your Fur baby! 🙏🏻💖
i'm SO behind (haha, poor), but it's good to rack up your recommendations for autumnal viewing... and it's always lovely to see you and Gromit 🖤🖤🖤
Anthony Starr is so amazing!!! I hope i get to watch this soon
Sending hugs to Groms and you ❤️
I really loved this movie! It was so weird in the best ways, and the scares got to me too! I was in the theatre with my knees pulled up to my chin throughout most of the third act, and though I tried not to, I let out some shrieks as well. 8/10 for me, I absolutely loved it.
Boy did you have a great day to watch this movie. I always pray for rain.
Grommits bandana was a winner.
I want to watch this, but I think I will take you advice and watch it this halloween season.
Thank you for the review.
0:51 imo perfectly fine to like a character you wouldn't like irl, i mean i think Omniman is cool despite spoilers
I freaking loved it
Grommet poor lil guy. Get better. I’m so sorry he sick. They are our babies.
Thanks for the review - I was intrigued and sought this one out. I am really, really curious if this story was at least in part inspired by Richard Matheson's short story "Born of Man and Woman?" I believe it was his first published short story and is an amazing (and truly short) read, written from the perspective of, essentially, this film's antagonist. You can find it online - it's confusing at first (brilliantly, purposefully so) and then by the end you understand everything. Really a bold first story for a writer who would create so many great stories, including "I Am Legend."
Watched this movie this Sunday with low expectations but boy I was pleasantly surprised with the experience it delivered. The suspense & scare built up was amazing & far more effective than some of the recent big name releases like Insidious 5. Hope there is another part shedding light in the origin story of Sarah & her dynamics with Peter later on 7/10
Honestly liked the beginning way more and wish the ending was different. I thought it was so tense for the whole lead up. But to me child abuse is the scariest thing. If you've felt mixed feelings or fear toward a parent, you don't feel like you missed something at the beginning of the movie. It feels like they've always been like that but they have they're "good" streaks from time to time.
Nah, this movie was awesome. One of the few bright spots in a disappointing year for horror. I was never bored. The teacher DEFINITELY needed to be included. I was so scared for her the 2nd time she went to the house
I liked this one. I thought the scenes with this mysterious person whispering to him from inside the walls were just macabre. It was really creepy and effective, especially because you didn't know if the kid was psychotic and imagining it or if it was a ghost or what. The film itself has a number of pretty good twists in this regard, which is why I don't think it would have worked if they had established it as a fantasy or fairy tale film from the outset. And really, I think you can argue that it isn't a proper fairy tale anyway.
Totally agree. Well put.
SPOILERISH:
I was having the same thoughts about whether the kid was imagining it all or not, I honestly saw the movie going an entirely different direction, with the kid being the reason the parents were so weird, it was going to be something about him, etc.
Hey Emma! Great review. I'm Excited for this but I think I'll wait to watch it at home. I had an awful viewing experience watching Insidious last weekend. The theatre was full of rowdy teenagers who talked loudly and laughed throughout the entire movie. They also used their phones, flashlights, and ran around the room throughout. It was the worst!
And right there you've summed up why I've not seen a new film in theaters since 2017.
I dig it quite a bit. I liked that it was more from the kid’s perspective cause that did put you off kilter, unsure if the parents were bad or just creepy from the kids point of view. I also enjoyed that the reveal was really simple and not complex. Sometimes there is just a bad seed and that is all there is to it! 😂 I agree with most of your review but I think I liked it just a little bit more.
Good job again Emma! And thanks for a great review!!
Thanks for the review, still gotta wait over here in Berlin for it to drop ! 😂
Best wishes to Gromit and you for the weekend and all days after ✌️🥳
I agree with the movie not being original at all. But i really enjoyed it. I was IN from the beginning. Loved your video, really hope Grommit to get better!
So i wonder if some parts of the movie that would have made it better paced were left on the cutting room floor? well thanks for the heads up, and what is a cob and does it really leave webs?
Respect for consistently pumping out content
Get well soon Gromit ❤ Thank you for pointing out this film Emma . I'm definitely going to check it out when I can in the UK . Changing the subject , have you seen the true crime series The Sixth Commandment? It's on the BBC at the moment . It's very unnerving and has got some really great actors in it . Again thank you and you both take care .
I love you Emma! Much love from Melbourne 🫶🏼
I love love Lizzy Caplan and I'm down for this. Good to hear your thoughts - I might not run to the theater for this one. I like to host outdoor movies with some friends periodically in our back yard in the summers - do you think this would be a good fit for that? I love the little touches of showing the weather and the lighting of the candle - that was fun. :)
Best horror movie review channel on CZcams. By far! 👍
I love Gromit, I'm sending good vibes his way.
Haven't heard of this movie before thanks for the post 😊😊
This should have been a series
Gromit, Feel Better, GET BETTER !!!
Thanks for the Review and the Video 😀
Cobweb is on Hulu. I watched it. It was pretty good.
New Subscriber, love an Aussie creator. Sending many Blessings Grommet, hoping his well. Great Videos so impressed. 😊
Awwww! Poor Gromit! I hope he feels better soon.
I thought it did a lot of things really well like switching directions like 1st tou think it's a ghost then it goes to a rob zombies young Michael Meyers vibe then switches to a people under the stairs vibe but it ends with a barbarian style ending I do like that they waiting a long time to reveal what she really looked like it gave tou some anticipation but then the payoff was bad cgi overall it was entertaining even though there were no characters you cared about due to zero development
Sounds interesting! Thanks Emma!
We like Halloween early 🎃
I realize I'm technically asking for spoilers, but...spiders? The name just gives that impression for obvious reasons. I just don't do spiders.
Tons of love to Gromit.
Yess thank youuu can’t wait😭🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
We in the uk aren’t getting it till September so this review will have to do - sending love to you and Gromit ❤
I will keep my eyes open for this one. You got me moderately pumped, score aside.
omg Emma! you scared me with the last bit of the video! Love seeing Gromit back on your vids ♥
🤣
marianne! no one i know knows it lol such a good interesting refreshing show. love and treats for pup
Hope the pup is ok! Thinking of him. Such a cutie. I am in the U.S. and Lionsgate is really screwing up this release. Only releasing in limited theaters. Closest theater to me playing it is 45 minutes away.
Great movie , one of the best horror/fantasy movies I've seen in a while
Came across it this week, and look forward to checking it out. Most likely watch at home for timing reasons. Forever rock hard, and high five paws to GROMIT
Even with the stuff not making much sense, I really liked this movie, I was conflicted on the score I would gibve it too, because I was really tense the whole time watching it, and I think it really works well on the Horror aspect. 2023 has been a bad year for horror movies so far, but I would put this one on the top 3. I lked it better than Talk To Me.
Sending hugs and kisses to Grommit!!
I really enjoyed this one! Caught it on Hulu last night and it had me entranced the whole time. This is kind of a spoiler…..
But I’m kind of glad it really was a monster. Too many films I have watched lately like “Censor” and “Run Rabbit Run” have been trauma based and it was starting to feel like the “it’s all on their head from past trauma” was becoming a cliche…so this was like a breath of fresh air. The one thing that does bug me though is that the kid is now a murderer and it was through abuse and manipulation and he is going to suffer even more. His future does not look good. Pushed a kid down the steps, poisoned parents, bullies bodies found in house. Yeah not good at all😢
Hello Emma, just a question : What camera do you use ?
PS : ❤❤❤❤❤❤ for Grommit !
Sony a7 ii
@@spookyastronauts thank you. The quality of your image is very beautiful.
I gotta say these last few videos the production value has been 💯. Can’t wait to check this one out, probably at home lol.
Thank you Cory 🥹
awesome movie great horror great acting great fairy tale feel with twists one after another its getting the good reviews it deserves hopefully it gets the support it deserves one of my favorite horror movies
Homelander is the best. You hate to love him but he's so morbidly funny at times.
7/10 is what i would score it as well but the acting was great, theres just some things about the writing i would change involving the parent's. The shadow play was great. The cinematography was also great.
Woody Norman as Peter was FANTASTIC. hes also english and pulls off an American accent amazingly imo.
Looking forward to seeing this one😃 coraline I thought was the scariest animation ever.👍👍🎃🎃
Aw the dog breaking my heart. Get well soon
Your dog looks like a sweet boi. I hope he’s ok.
Thanks for the review, Emma. I was hoping you would get a chance to see it. I heard about this film quite a while ago, including a plot point that neither the trailer nor your review mentioned, so I am going to assume that it's a spoiler. I will give it a look at least on video when it comes out. So happy to see Gromit and all the care you are giving him.
What was the plot point?
@@spookyastronauts I hope this is not a spoiler. Something about an "imaginary friend".
Nope that’s not correct at all ! Has nothing to do with this film, maybe that was another one?
@@spookyastronauts I guess I must have it confused with another film. Could have sworn the title was Cobweb though. Oh well, still looking forward to this film.
I’ll try to remember this come Halloween
its advertised on my theaters website but i cat find it playing anywhere sadly, i hope i get to see it soon
Yeah it’s a limited release
I cannot wait to see it ❤ love to Gromit
I'm seeing it tonight!!!! Very excited for this one
Woooo!
I liked this movie very much. It was very fun
Hi is the Australian movie TALK TO ME out yet in Australia , I heard it is good. thank you for the info on COBWEB, and hi from Canada
I reviewed it a week ago!
@@spookyastronauts ok thank I must of missed that one
Oo I wanna see 😆 If you hear anything about an Australian release do let us know!
@spookyastronauts im kinda interested in going to see it, but is it full of jump scares?
I wouldn’t say too many, but a few
I just saw Cobweb and I agree with your review. It's a great film for Halloween, with its creepy vibe and kind of B-movie plot. The "bedtime story" element does come through with the focus being on the young boy. I'm also going to give the acting the benefit of the doubt. I think some of the "campy" acting was intentional and meant to give the audience that feeling of something "really being off", like an episode of Goosebumps or Creepshow. The revelation was good, though predictable. Overall, I'll give it the same score of 6/10 that you did.
Good reviews so far can't wait
It was a decent movie, it was like a creepypasta.
Looks like it's a good film to start off maybe a double feature with a more intense film to follow it up.
Yeah that would work!
Ohhh I saw the trailer for this before insidious the red door and I'm very interested
Homelander is soooo fine
Totally agree with your opinion here! Just seen it in an almost empty cinema and really enjoyed it. The tone is mixed, I agree, babadook meets the gremlins... glad the last act went all out, but also think the fantasy horror silliness detracted somewhat. Conflicted... Could've just as easy kept it grim and mean spirited, and would've been harder but better... halloween backdrop was just cheesy AF.
I really enjoyed Cobweb! 😍
Side note, your name is Emma just like the protagonist of Marianne.
Shit. This movie this weekend, Oppenheimer also, the talk to me NEXT weekend? I guess I'm going to be busy the net couple of weekends....
What are your thoughts on the show Banshee?
Oh I seen the trailer for this it comes out tomorrow.
Prayers for Gromit! This movie doesn’t have a large release here in the US. It’s only out for this weekend and until Thursday near me.
It’s streaming on prime right now. Watched it tonight
@@BookMaven9 I was able to see it in theaters. It was down to one showtime a day, so I saw it at 9:15am and then went to a different theater to watch Talk To Me. I enjoyed both of them.
@@umjames I did too. I was a bit unsatisfied with the lack of explanation in cobweb but technically it was perfect in terms of look, feel and creeps.
SLAYYY OMG YOU GOT TO SEE IT!!!!
