Mike and Jay Talk About Cobweb

- It's the return of RLM's most popular series, Jeb and Mark Blark Abort! This time, we bring attention to this Halloween-centric movie that was inexplicably released the same weekend as Barbie and Oppenheimer: Cobweb! The movie was doomed to have abysmal box office and nobody knows why it was release when it was, not even Lionsgate!

Mike: “I don’t want to give away what the creature is.”
One second later
Mike: explains in detail what the creature is
It would be frustrating if they didn't also introduce me to this movie. Balances out, and also very funny
This video is the first time I’ve been made aware that this movie exists.
Same here the marketing was truly terrible
well seeing it, no wonder they had 0 faith in its success, it was really bad
Same
Same and I loved Barbarian
And after just watching this review, anyone can see that it's a crime against marketing principles. This is the most Halloween movie since Halloween (or Halloween, or Halloween) and to release it at any other time is just baffling. What the fuck were they thinking?
It’s really a compliment to this movie to have one of Milwaukee’s top 25 serial killers say this is one of his top 25 films of all time.
FISH!....?!
As one of Milkwaukee's other top 25 serial killers, I can confirm he has the best taste in movies.
Question, if they kill as a team the score is divided among them or each kill counts in their personal record? Cause if so just the ones from the Rockford Prowler aka Jay Bauman will put them all easily in the top 10.
@g.sergiusfidenas6650 the kills count towards your own personal record, unless someone provides an assist (i.e. demented cackling to set the mood) then it is split.
@@pyramear5414almost as good as his taste in his murder victims!
I like how Mike clarifies they won’t give away what the creature is approximately 3 seconds before explaining exactly what the creature is
I love how Jay just instantly call out the "it might be my favorite movie of all time" bullshit from Mike
It's his Top One movie of all time!
@@boatcaptain6288 Yes, right below The Fanatic
@@radhinkabagaskara5595 I hope a week or two from now Jay actually makes a reference to Cobweb to see if Mike remembers it or not.
@@boatcaptain6288A week or two? He already forgot it ever existed.
God I'd love to see that@@boatcaptain6288
considering mike’s memory, i’m starting to believe him when he says the most recent thing he can remember watching is his favourite movie of all time
When he shouted “HAVE YOU SEEN STAR WARS?!” in the Last Jedi review, he was actually asking himself. Already, he was losing his memory. How sad.
lol
Mikes sure loves watching his “stories” and eating a nice bowl of pea soup.
Time to get grampa back to the home
Haha I have a tendency to do that cuz I"m prone to exaggeration and have a bad memory.
Worked with Lizzy on Castle Rock. She’s incredible and very humble. She invited and treated every crew member to dinner and drinks on her birthday.
Only because it's true and for no other reason: my brother had a small role in Castle Rock. He shanks someone in a jail cell Bill Skarsgard is being held in. That's all. Nice to know Lizzy's pleasant.
@@johdoushaLol I was also a Shawshank prisoner in season one. Small world
That's awesome. I loved that show and I love her in everything she's in.
Glad to hear she's cool. Always been a fan of hers.
My sister described this movie as a highly produced goosebumps episode and i liked it more after that realization
I love when Mike calls them "hahrror pictures"
It goes along well with Jay still saying "Open Heimer".

@@SeSeReRfRf Of course James Rolfe has to resort to plagiarizing scripts for his harrer movie reviews, he's got no time.
You can always tell when Mike has binged Vudu when they upload multiple videos in a week
Its the best way to get all this great content! "Alright its been a month, what crap was released this month". If he tried doing it every week ,it would be depressing.
I share Mike's love for Vudu
Now that he's seemingly housebound, they'll only be able to discuss stuff from vudu.
Underrated niche film talk, Vudu doesn't have the prettiest u.i. but the functionality of being able to click on actors or directors sends you in deep rabbit holes that I am thankful Mike brings out the gold out of
Nice observation.
That little busey segment was the scariest thing I'll ever watch on a screen, ever
Finally, Mike and Jay sit down to talk about a movie. They should do this more often.
At this point I’d watch an hour of Mike and Jay breakdown all the Burger King commercials
I feel like that'd be a Mike & Rich episode.
I'm down.

The House With Walls In It is hands down the most terrifying movie I've never seen.
Made me afraid of my own house.

"Aunty Donna stray man". Watch that, see him being natural in a comedy sketch
hmm a format where Mike and Jay talk about movies.. this could really go somewhere
I think they should add some skits at the beginning of their videos, maybe get a close friend of theirs to play the wacky characters.
what if they had a big wheel and that's how they picked what movies to watch? or a jenga tower, or a plinko board...
@@lamptrent Sounds really embarrassing. I hope they never do that.
Nah, I don't like these ones. I like the ones where they sit in different chairs in a different set and talk about movies in the exact same manner. Those ones are great! They should start a new series where they sit in another different set of chairs on a different set that we've never seen and talk about movies in the exact same manner.
@16:20 "There's a lot of spider imagery in this" - Mike Stoklasa discussing a movie called "Cobweb"
Over the years, as Jay is getting younger, he slowly developes a Rachel Haircut.
My favourite thing about this movie is how this creature can somehow climb on walls, tear humans apart but cant break through decades old dry wall.
It was a fun movie though
I can suspend disbelief like a motherfucker, but when the teacher started breaking the wall open right after we saw that the HUMAN creature can literally tear somebody's head off, I was like "oh, come on!"
@@snavs420I figured that the thing absolutely had to be supernatural in some capacity, like a weird, Lovecraftian half-breed. I thought there had to be some significance with it NEEDING to be released through the unlocking of that bizarre door with the baroque key, as if that was what was really keeping it contained, not the drywall itself.
it seems the movie is about overprotective parents and the damage they can do to kids.
So the older sister could represent how someone like Peter might end up after several years: feeling angry at the world and trapped in the house by parents. Not literally physically trapped, but you know, feeling trapped in a situation and feeling a loss of control of your life...?
This could be why she doesn't just break through a wall or kill the parents herself.
The dad's bloody arm injury was from the sister, right? She could recognize the parents were the source of her pain.
However, the wound was pretty small relative to her strength, so it's likely that she tried to fight back but her obedience was too engrained.
This is why she needed Peter to get rid of them for her.
or maybe this is just bullshit idk, i really tried to find meaning beyond like, "childhood fears come to life"
@@snavs420 The same thing happened with Evil Dead Rise. What's up with supernatural monsters not being able to get through a locked door?
Lol yeah. You kinda just have to switch your brain to low power mode during the finale and enjoy the chaos I think.

Lmao. I don’t blame you.
sorry about that
why didn't you ask Rich for an autograph?
whoooa what the fuck lmao
"But where do you even advertise anymore?"
Good question. The last effective marketing campaign for a horror movie I can think of was for _Smile_
They paid actors to go to events like baseball games, sit behind home plate and smile creepily at the camera.
It caught on and generated a lot of buzz for the movie. Anyway, _Cobweb_ sounds like a fun watch
Megan had an effective one with tik tok dance.
Agree with the above, the Megan one was good. Movie was a fun watch too!
skinamarink had a pretty good one, i mean it caught me and i don't even use whatever app it was originally advertised on lol
I give Megan a 5 bags of popcorn score!
cobweb makers should have paid people to hide in the walls of homes and whisper to children
You could tell Mike was very impressed with Jay’s Will Forte pun, but he had to suppress it because he was annoyed that he didn’t think of it first.
I think missing the 'Silence of the Lambs' joke in the Enemy Mine Re:View broke Mike's spirit. That was when he knew he might never be first to a joke again. And that's not even mentioning the Art-partment fiasco.
I wish Rich was here to pronounce it Will Forty.
I consume all of RLM's content by recording it first to a VHS tape, then once I'm done watching it, I crush the tape into a fine powder and snort it.
Son, you need to graduate to adding water to the resulting powder, heating it with a lighter, drawing it into a syringe, and then injecting it directly into your vein.
Otherwise, you are wasting about 90% of it as the excess does not get absorbed by your sinuses but rather runs down the back of your throat where it ends up in your stomach, at which point it is processed normally, including being filtered by the liver. And that's not something you want. There's only a limited amount Mike and Jay you can get, so you definitely don't want 90% of it to go to waste.
Do you cut it with cocaine?
Huh? Who doesn't, kiddo? Stop flattering yourself.
You didn't even get the tapes graded before crushing them? What are you? Some kind of cretin??
It's wonderful that at his advanced age Mike can still form a core memory.
And access them!
I love how funny Mike is (saying this random movie is his top 25) and how much Jay knows about Mike's attitudes toward movies (you're going to forget this movie)
Holy f**k, the mum with the glowing eyes running towards the boy in the dark with her wide spread arms gets me everytime. What a terrifying shot
I loved the 2011 Daniel Craig-starring film, The House with Walls in It
I don’t watch movies, I watch Jay and Mike talk about movies.
I don't watch Jay, I watch movies and talk about Mike.
To be fair, movies nowdays are medicore at best.

Rich and Jack were so quiet in this episode of Half in the Bag, just sitting back there….
I think they were intimated by the Star Trek monster beside them.
A random thought I had while watching this: is "person in the walls" a fear / creepy idea that mainly works for people who live in actual houses? As somebody who's lived an apartments almost my entire life, I always hear strangers through my walls so I don't find it particularly spooky as a concept. It's kind of like being a pet owner (which I am) and hearing little noises at night; you just get used to it and assume it's your pets being goobers rather than anything scary going on.
Well of course things your brain can instantly rationalize aren't scary. It's not specifically things in walls, but the unknown of hearing things where they aren't supposed to be. Even if you can rationalize it, strange sounds in walls are likely to be something unpleasant like pests.
There's also something of a trope that, since walls are rarely ever opened, they could be used to hide things, from secret passages to a killer's victims.
Lots of horror plays off of things in unexpected places, I mean you don't expect a clown in a storm drain or a threatening phone call to be coming from your own house.
@@ChrisSmith-mi2zo Yeah I agree. I guess I was trying to say, for people who've mostly lived in houses as opposed to apartments, is there more of an automatic fear response to hearing a strange noise in the walls, or more of a fundamental "ooo creepy" reaction to the concept? Since they haven't had noises like that constantly rationalized / they haven't become desensitized to wall noises.
your use of "goobers" has not gone unappreciated
Th origin of many real-life ghost stories comes from squatters living in an old forgotten partition of a house

That hallway scene is an excellent scare, I am going to go watch this. Looks cool. I think the marketing should have focused on Homelander in a horror movie, people know him and like him in that show, so that probably could have worked. They also should have pushed the release to October.

18:29 Jay makes a good point about Gateway Horror movies for kids.
I think nowadays, kids' gateway into horror moreso video games than movies, like the Five nights at Freddy's franchise and all the other horror games that emulate that atmosphere.
Maybe there is some difficult market competition since a child-oriented horror movie has to compete for attention with video games like FNAF that have remained viral for like 10 years or so, and turned into a million dollar franchise.
But im not a marketing agent or a horror buff so i dont know for sure.
Mike is just so happy to remember something despite his dementia that this makes his top favorite films.
I had no idea this even came out and I didn't even see a poster put up at my local theatre. Talk to Me, another horror movie going against the giants, did pretty well and the girlfriend and I enjoyed it. First time directors with the horror being more focused on tension and creep factor compared to jumpscares. It has a scene of someone sucking on someones toes so it's got all the stuff that Jay needs!
It's like a less-good version of Malignant.
@@OccultDemonCassettein what way? It was an original story, that didn’t rely on jumpscares and shit, had good cinematography, actually made you care and be invested in the characters and sympathise with them. You know using atmosphere, character-sympathising, tension, to make you scared and invested akin to the way The Exorcist does. Not comparing the two, just saying that similar approach to those older movies rather than modern reliance on jumpscare and shock.
@@GuineaPigEveryday I don't know what to tell you. The entire time I was watching it just felt like it was heavily inspired by the styling, pacing and atmosphere of Malignant, but from a childlike perspective. Personally I think saying that it's a less-good version of Malignant is high praise as that was one of the best atmospheric action-horror flicks of the at least the last decade.
@@OccultDemonCassette im not sure what u mean by childlike perspective, perhaps akin to watered-down? But in the case of Talk To Me, I do love the way it uses the perspective of teenagers and that exorcism is being exploited like a fun party-drug rather than some ominous thing the kids are scared of. It's an interesting twist, that isn't over-done, and more so i think it works excellently in the modern era, because ofc exorcism would become a tiktok trend. I haven't seen Malignant, i just really dug the characters in Talk To Me, and really sympathised with Mia. But i wouldnt be surprised at all if Talk To Me took a lot of inspiration from Malignant, it's racka-racka's first film, still besides that they still did all of this themselves and had a great script, good characters and great cinematography, even if its inspired/taking-influence-from.
@@GuineaPigEveryday childlike as in from the perspective of a child.
