I started talking with a man who is Vietnamese. He was just telling me about this today!!! He’s celebrating lunar new years and wants to share the culture with all his friends! He sent me pics of the scores he got from the markets in the city. It was cute seeing him get so excited. I was curious about it, as I couldn’t even imagine… lo and behold you posted! Thank you I was super curious 😂🙏🏻
Wow. I'm Filipino and we have something similar called "suman" in Luzon (northern part of the country) and here in Mindanao (south) we call it "babed" (in Maguindanaon, other tribes probly call it a different name) but it's essentially the same. We cook sticky rice with coconut, some just use water, then we wrap it in banana leaves (some like to add meat to make them savory but I prefer the sweet kind) but ours is not wrapped so big, they're wrapped in small rolls for individual consumption like a candy bar 😅 and then we boil them after wrapping and after that they're ready to eat! I like dipping them in sugar too! We usually prepare them for special occasions called "kanduli". It's amazing when you see similarities in culture with people far away from your own home.
Not only am I impatient but I wait until I am hungry to cook so I eat as I am cooking. I love this channel: I am learning so much about Vietnamese home cooking.
For who wonder what 5 LINES PORK means: That belly pork has 5-layers which are skin-fat-meat-fat-meat. Your banh chung looks so good ❤, I like to dip it with chili sauce
My granddad left Vietnam in 1952 and didn't learn to cook there. We buy this every new year with soy sauce, I never thought we were supposed to eat it with sugar 😂

This is something I would love to try someday. Thank you for sharing your culture with us ❤
If you don’t want to make it yourself, they sell them at your local Vietnamese market during Lunar New Year season 😊
@Anonymous0996 thank you. I will keep that in mind. The closest Asian market to us is a 4 hour drive.
@@bowfal oof yea that’s a far drive. 😳 her recipe does look fairly simple though. I’m planning on giving it a try one of these days. 😊

As a Vietnamese, I've never seen or heard anyone eat this with sugar or soy sauce. I was taught nước mắm and pickled shallots or daikon and carrots.
