- Here I share my thoughts on George R. R. Martian's A Game of Thrones, which I have never read. I've spent two days battling a corrupt video file, but here it is, as best as I could salvage it.

Love the enthusiasm! A lot of great content in this, but the insights into Jaime are really topnotch. I never thought after our initial introductions to the Kingslayer that he would be in the running to be my favorite character in the series.

I just found you and RIGHT AWAY your insight when it comes to seemingly minor characters got me excited. I can see that you've gotten through them all now and I cannot wait to see what you think about Wyman Manderly when his story unfolds in Dance! Glad you liked my analysis. I think already knowing that there were so many fan theories out there really put me in the mindset to analyze everything (and to trust no one, which turns out to be a good idea when it comes to these books).
I don't see any universe in which you could think Joffrey sent an assassin with a Valyrian steel dagger to kill Bran in his bed in Winterfell. lol
Well yeah, I can understand that. It’s a really weird scene, having learnt that basically the most likely culprits (Jamie, Cersei, Littlefinger) either didn’t do it or couldn’t have arranged it on such short notice.
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of it having been Mance. Otherwise, it just feels like a plot hole. Unless Cersei’s dumb enough to have forgotten? (joking, of course) 😂
@@ConnorLandonFreeman it’s just like, Joffrey was what? 11 and is essentially useless until Robert dies. Littlefinger is the most trustworthy person. 😉
While I’d love for it to be Littlefinger, as he has the most to gain (and likely had access to the dagger) it would be difficult for him to anticipate what was going on at Winterfell all the way in King’s Landing.
I guess he could have sent the assassin to kill Bran (or Rickon, maybe?) and Bran’s fall was just a “happy accident”, affording the catspaw a chance to strike?
You should give the audiobooks a try. Roy Dotrice, despite all its flaws, does a stellar job narrating them. Some of his performances greatly enhance scenes to the point of them making me cry, such as Arya's final encounter with the Tickler, Jeyne's escape, and Theon's reunion with Asha, among others.

Wholeheartedly agree! Sometimes Roy is a bit awkward but overall - as somebody who has also narrated audiobooks for audible - Roy was an absolute master of the craft and it'll be a long time before somebody like him comes along again. He absolutely enhances the Broken Man speech (my favourite passage), the twist during Tyrion's escape from King's Landing, and my favourite bit of all - Aemon's final scenes before his passing. Roy was at the end of his own life when he recorded Feast, and hearing him reflect on death and the fear of what lay beyond (or the idea of nothing at all) comes from such a raw place that it never fails to make me emotional.
I think the catspaw was sent by mance raider as a mercy for a crippled boy and as a way to de-stabilize the north with the realm
Okay, that’s one of my favorite theories! We know Mance was there at Winterfell (disguised as Abel the Bard). The only issue is the Valyrian steel dagger. Odds are it came from King’s Landing… I just can’t say how. 🤷♂️

@@ConnorLandonFreeman there is a lot of subtextual evidence that Manse Rayder and Peter Baelish have the same goals. For one, they both have stolen or plan to steal the daughter of the lord of winterfell. For another they both make plans using disguises and for another they both you the name "Bael" in different ways.
