    I bought several suction cups from Harbor Freight and slightly modified them to mount a camera to my car. They are rock solid and rather inexpensive. They will not come off if installed correctly. You don't even really have to modify them just attach your camera to a magic arm or clamp that attaches to the suction cup handles and your are off. I actually just mostly use magnetic bases connected to small ball heads to mount my cameras now though. Not a good idea if you have a nice car but I don't and it's no problem for me. I also have the little Ulanzi twist/magnet quick release system that I use on both of my Osmo Actions and they are life changing. Easily one of the best systems I have ever bought and I have probably five sets of them. Super convenient and not too expensive either. I'm considering getting the Osmo 3 but am not sure yet. Nice video.

    I'm using the Osmo Action 3 with the Smallrig cage which looks pretty similar. I've been really enjoying it and really prefer having my DJI mic receiver in a cold shoe rather than just in the side. Never feels right having a £300 mic held in just by a USB C plug...

    Great informative video. You mention the DJI Wirelese Mic in this video. Did you try to with the Ulanzi or PGYTech Alum Case on the Action 3 to plug the Wireless Receiver direct into the USB-C port? Reason I ask is because it is not possible with the Factory Case that came with the Action 3. You would need some kind of cable.

    • @Donny_B
      @Donny_B  Před rokem

      Thank you! Unfortunately, the DJI Mic receiver will only work with the Smallrig cage. I ordered one to test, but the delivery date keeps getting pushed back. I have been recording straight to the internal storage of the receiver or using a usb-c cable.

    • @Donny_B
      @Donny_B  Před rokem

      The ND4 is good for all around shooting. You don't wanna go too dark in case you're driving through pockets of shade. Honestly just shooting in HDR has been great but mid day, I'd recommend the ND4 or ND8. I've yet to use the 32 or 64. I hope this helps and I really appreciate your support! Hi! Thank you for great video. I have two questions:
    1. Can you replace the folding GoPro fingers on Ulanzi cage?
    2. (I have watched your video about cages too) Is the Small Rig magnetic mount any strong while using together with Small Rig cage. I have it but I find it unusable (without cage of cours) for activities (it fell off while being mounted on a windsurf mast). I use it only on tripod now.

    • @Donny_B
      @Donny_B  Před 11 měsíci

      Thank you for the kind words and support! I looked at the fingers on the Ulanzi Cage and I guess it would not be impossible to change them, but might take a little bit of "know how". The problem I see is there are holes for the magnets that you would have to drill for. Again, it's not impossible, but I would probably just replace the cage if needed.
      I mainly use the SmallRig magnetic mount for attaching to a suction cup or tripod. Every now and then I will use it to mount a light to the side of the cage instead of using the cold shoe. Never tried using it directly sticking the magnets to metal. I don't think I could trust my $300 camera with a $20 magnet 😒. Thanks again for the kind words! Hope I helped answer your question

    • @Donny_B
      @Donny_B  Před rokem

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Yes, the camera is completely secure. Especially if you use the flip down action cam mount. The glass lens does stick out a bit, but with the wide field of view there isn't much they could do. The lens is affordable and replaceable is the worst were to happen. Which I have not had any issues with so far. I've tested all the cages that are available for the Action 3 and found the Ulanzi to be the "beefiest". Hope this helps and thanks again for your time!

      Are you referring to the magnetic quick release? If so, yes the Action 2 release will work on the 3 but not the other way around. Also, the Action 3 mount has a rubber pad that isolates noise from the mount. Some of the Action 2 mounts caused some "squeaking" from metal on metal contact. Hope this helps

      Thanks for the sub and taking the time to watch. I like pgytech alot. In my opinion it's the way DJI should have made it. Alot more sleek than the others and cheaper. The Ulanzi is a tank. It functions well and just overall feels more rugged. Do you own the DJI Mic? The only cage that will accommodate that is the small rig.

      @bigedkc I've had pretty good results with a neck strap. I've tried a few different brands and they all seem to work about the same, so in the case cheaper may actually be better. Biggest benefit with the neck mount over the chest mount is when you lean over or bend down the camera will still shoot forward rather than the ground

    That Ulanzi cage looks actually well designed! Too bad they seemed not be able to design something similar for the Hero11. I actually see that that they have something like a similar case for the Hero 9/10/11 too. But for that you seem to need to remove the lid, which leaves it vurnable for moist and water. Like wtf... How could they have designed this? 😅

    • @Donny_B
      @Donny_B  Před rokem +1

      Yeah that's pretty bunk, but it does look pretty beefy. I really dig the filter mount too. I guess that was the only way to access the charge port??

    • @rockel83
      @rockel83 Před rokem +1

      @@Donny_B GoPro put everything behind one single lid. So guess the DJI is a bit better designed like that. Even the lid on the DJI is constructed better to my opinion. It's much easier to open and feels verry solid and reliable to water resistance. The rubber seal looks a bit flimsy on the Hero.
      And this metal frame for the DJI is actually verry good designed. Would not had been that difficult to have desigend something similar for the Hero 9/10/11 where it was still possible to keep the orriginal door attached. If it was just a little bit wider, then people could have choosen to keep the orriginal waterproof lid, or mount a pass through door for the charger. Think they would have had a much bigger potential customers group then. Would have bought one emidiately myself then! :)

      for me, i considered 1 thing as flaw of the Ulanzi cage, it is the Start/Stop button place. Pgytech makes it flat with the cage's top but Tilta makes it a raised button. I can use my finger to push the hard button without missing and have to look down for the button.

I personally record to the transmitter if I'm using the DJI Mic and the Action together. Not really a fan of my 300 mic only being held by usb-c. Honestly, most of the time I use the internal mic on the Action 3. It sounds good as long as it is not windy. I ordered the Smallrig cage last week as well as the Pgytech. I plan to do a comparison whenever I get them. I want to know why the significant price difference between the 3 of them.
