I'm sure all of these upgrades are fine (and expensive) but, speaking as a 10/22 owner, the rifle is absolutely fine without any of these mods.
10/22 is a good platform! These upgrades are widely popular for upgrading ergonomics for speed, comfort, and accessibility!
My crosspins walked out on me and i had to go home and fix my gun (whereas my Daughter pink Ruger 10/22 worked fine the entire day D'OH!) , i think i want some with the ball detent.
Unless your doing competition, then these upgrades give you an edge.
True. But sometimes it's fun to play with one of your guns. Just don't do anything that would make it dangerous
Why are you watching an upgrade video if you don't want any upgrades?
Bought mine in 1979 79 bucks and still runs like new with thousands of rounds through it. Would never change a thing.
The upgrades I installed on the 10/22 I bought in 76 are a scope (scope rings came with the rifle), and a sling. With the money I saved by not adding other upgrades, I used on ammo.
The upgrades I installed on the 10/22 Takedown I bought about 8 yrs. ago was the Magpul Backpacker Stock and a scope. The aftermarket stock was strictly due to convenience when transporting the rifle and it had storage for extra magazines.
Bought mine about ten years after you. I added a scope right away but no other changes.
Upgrade your 10/22 by replacing virtually everything that Ruger installed on the rifle! Spend your money on some good quality .22lr ammo to see just how good a stock 10/22 can be. I loved the part where you installed the left side charging handle and scope rail, then immediately after suggested installing ANOTHER CHARGING HANDLE!
EXACTLY! But he was obviously either paid by or works for the manufacturer of the parts. What a joke!!
exactly at this point you might as well just build a whole gun...
These parts from their website is $623 before tax and shipping plus $300ish for a 10/22 carbine.
I have built highspeed comp 10/22s minus the optic for less than $900 before with bull barrels or counter weighted barrels.
Not saying these parts aren't good or arent competitive with other stuff like VQ or Kidd just if you are going to replace 2/3s of the rifle with preimum stuff just start from the ground up. A stock, Barrel, and receiver (which can have an intergal picatiny) can be had for $300-400.
What I like to do with stock 10/22s is minimalist upgrades. a mini-14 butt pad for some grip and LOP. A cheap picatinny. A machined and counter sunk bedding bushing. a no droop vblock. some A2 tool steel bolt upgrades and a trigger/seer kit and a trigger with adjustable over travel. $100-150 max. then a cheap tasco scope and you are good to go.
@@djmerchant You do realize that this video is on the official Tandemkross channel, right? As in this video is from the manufacturer of these parts and this guy is an employee, so no shit he's getting paid by them to make this video 🙄
@@damnination333 Just say that I'm right and move on.
and THEN used his right hand to charge the bolt. amazing
Got my 10/22 in the 80's used from a friend. It's been sitting on the shelf for way too long. Gotta get that thing out. So much fun to plink around with.
New to hunting does the 10/22 mean it’s a 22lr ? How good is the gun for small game hunting, there’s a guy selling his for 300 bucks with a scope says it’s a new gun
I have two 10/22's. My first I bought for $49.00 in 1966. It's bone stock and shoots as good as when I bought it. The second has had a mild upgrade or two. Now I'm going all in. And, yes, I'll use these products and more.
We love to hear it! You've got a gem!
Mine is from 1974. 65 Bucks, works fine.@@TANDEMKROSS
i have 5 of them, one original from the 60s, one "dressed" up to resemble a m1 carbine, one with plastic folding stock "tactical", one hand assembled all after market heavy barrel, big scope, etc, and one that i got at a garage sale for super cheap as it was VERY rusty. i cleaned it up and sprayed it flat black with plastic stock with a metal wire butt that folds to the left. my favorite by far is the garage sale POS! it shoots just fine and can bounce around on the tractor or whatever and i dont care in the least if it gets scratched or whatever. it just keeps working.
Got my daughter a takedown model a few years ago. Came with a pic rail that's easy to install.
I am 62 years old guy I have 5 10/22's with iron sights never spend my money in cosmetics or upgrades & happy to have them the way came from factory 🙂
And that's totally okay! To each their own! 10/22's are awesome!
You have 5 plain jain 10/22’s? Put a scope and bipod one.. that’s not cosmetic they serve a purpose. Bull barrels another great upgrade they really improve accuracy. I understand not caring about cosmetic stuff but there is a lot of great upgrades that improve your shooting.
Why do you need 5 stock iron sighted 10/22s? I am down to two 10/22s from about the same number you state. Every one was setup differently. Now I have my full tack driver built on the receiver my Dad got me when I was 12. That one is a Volquartsen barrel/trigger setup with a basic Hogue overmolded stock with some Power Custom titanium bits as well. Same build from 1996 as it hits like a dream. It is a target gun set up for clearing the bullseye at 100 yards. Too heavy for hunting or shooting without a rest. That isn't it's purpose. The other is set up with a stock barrel, Volquartsen trigger group and a Hogue overmolded adult sized stock. That's the one for dropping rabbits at TEOTWAWKI. If you shot either of mine you would forever think yours feel crude and clunky.
I bought the one with a walnut stock, and put a little Bushnell red dot on top of it. Now I want to build a nice one from the ground up!
Skipped buying the 10/22 rifle. Bought a factory receiver and barrel. Fitted the TK bolt and charging handle with a Volquartsen trigger group dropped into a Magpul hunter stock. It works great.
Considering the trigger assembly in the video costs more than an entire stock 10/22, this makes a lot of sense.
That natural camo green stock & SS barrel, look awesome!
Isn't it? It's flashy while also... humble... haha
It's called Green Mountain Camo SpectraPly from Cousineau's in Maine.
I used to work there and make that stuff.
I went with KIDD products personally and clammed it in a trek bullpup with bull barrel. so sweet
Frickin nice! I'm gonna add one to my collection.
I have a few of their parts and they top notch
I'm convinced you can tell by the sheer amount of accessories any given platform has, just how passionate and dedicated the people who own said platforms are!
I'm all for buying whatever tickles people's fancies, and the 10/22 rifle certainly has all the options anyone could want! Or,,,, do they?
;-)
Only upgrade I did was get the Franklin Amory binary trigger pack by 22 plinkster. Definitely makes a boring 22LR extremely fun and everyone wants to try it after they see it run.
Volquartsen trigger group, e a brown bull barrel, faxon bolt, tsr 200 m1-style sights, and 4 stocks make my 10/22 into a versatile modular rifle of many different applications. Everything from quick acquisition to long range sniping.
Model 60 Marlin was a tack driver and didn't have to make changes to make it run better and had excellent sights. 🤔🤪🇺🇲
first thing to do with a brand new 1022.... take it out of the box an enjoy... they NEED nothing to be a great rifle
The 10/22 is banned in illinois now,its all part of the governors assault wespons ban lol,he wouldn't know an assault weapon from a bb gun.
You cant be serious thats insane
Nah u can still buy one, just 10 round rotary mags only
Due to the 10 round detachable magazine.
🤯🤯🤯
Has the crime dropped yet??
The 10/22 is fine as it is. Stock pile ammo!!
I have some TK items on my 9 mm RUGER PC chassis carbine. Good stuff.
Since I have a stainless 10/22 I may begin using TK parts to upgrade it as well.
Some good upgrades could be
- Pike Arms red bolt Buffer
- Volquartsen Auto Bolt Release
- Extended magazine release
- Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock
- Tactical Solutions X-Ring barrel
- Tactical Solutions X-ring VR receiver
- Better recoil spring system
- Tandemkross Twister Takedown pin
- Leupold 2.5x20 or 4x28 optic
- Aero precision optic mount ( Lightweight)
Optional
- New iron sights
- New Trigger and trigger guard
- Samson FH
- Barrel mount for a flashlight or bipod
- Tandemkross dual magazine and pouch ( more for competition)
- Spartan Bipod and adapter. ( Real lightweight)
I changed the metal pin/Rod that it bounces off of when cycling a round with a plastic coat hangercut to fit and it has worked for 20+ years and a dozen or so bricks taking care of the jackrabbits S.E. Idaho gets when the snow drives them out of the mountains and they try to and will take over the desert valley.
Nice, thanks.
No problem!
Wow. It performs almost as well as my stock 10/22 that I bought forty-five years ago. Kids and their toys, I guess.
this is what brokies say out of jealousy
@@tonymengela3575 It's hardly 'broke' when you don't waste money on useless gadgets. As @garyomalley4521 pointed out, he should show the proof of his so-called improvements by doing some before and after comparisons.
If you are implying that stock 10/22 parts are cheaper than they were decades ago and need to be replaced then yeah…
Don't forget that is around 700 in upgrade for a 320$ rifle
@@gilbertperez2132 lol mine was closer to $1000 by the time I was done
outstanding
My upgrades were Volquartsen action, Volquartsen trigger assembly, Volquartsen barrel, and fancy stock (can’t remember the manufacturer). While it’s none of the upgrades you’re recommending, it can put 5 Eley Club rounds in the same hole at 50 yards.
Sounds like a nice rifle. The Volquartsen stuff is hard to beat. Everyone touting their stock rifles as just as good are clueless. Their stock guns might be 'good enough' but not 'as good' by a long shot. And that's only 'good enough' to meet their criteria. My expectations are much higher than what a stock 10/22 can achieve and my custom 10/22s are up to the task quite handily.
Very nice !!!
Thank you very much!
I bought a used Sporter model (wood stock with no barrel band) in the early 90s. It had what I called a "lawyer trigger"; long gritty pull that must have been ten pounds and had a spongy let-off. 'Not sure how that thing got out of the factory like that, but a Kidd trigger transformed it into a satisfying tack driver with what seems like a 2 1/2 pound pull.
I am sure that those upgrades are great, but except for the scope on my stainless 1022, the two others are keeping them "stock".
Upgrade: BX trigger, aftermarket barrel: Tac Sol Barrel, Kidd, Volquartsen, and Magpul Hunter X stock. That is all you need.
So a whole new rifle
The fact that people are complaining about upgrading a 250$ gun is crazy. It's called a hobby we are doing it because we enjoy it. The stock 10/22 is amazing but some of us love to tinker.
Thank you for saying this. We have come to terms that if someone is not looking to upgrade, that is totally okay!
But the argument of upgrading an affordable gun to be better seems to bother some people. It's like they've never seen people buy cheaper cars and mod them to be fast/fun!
The reg stock or the old butler creek heavy duty folder outside of that a good scope mount n scope its pretty bare bones relaible gun
My 10/22 International. Free floated barrel from the mounting bolt to the Muzzle. Added the BX Trigger Group, 2lb Trigger pull, steel bolt stop pin to White Nylon, modified the bolt hold open plate, added a trigger back travel stop to Back of Trigger Guard. On a paper plate, at 100 yards, from the bench, Agulra 40gn RN, a 5 shot 1.25 inch group.
Remington 581s 5 shot, 100 yds, Bench, 36gn CCI Mini Mags HP, 1.46 inch group.
Aimpoint very top edge of the plate. 3 inch drop for the HP and 5 inch drop for the RN.
I very like your upgrades. I waiting Manticore trigger assembly available.
Working on it!
Binary trigger should be on this list.
I would have left the factor charging handle as i would be using the charging handle on the left side anyway.
Is the upgraded charging handle even necessary if you have the left side charging
Would you say this trigger or the timmney trigger is better? Also the magpul back packer looks cool
I started modding my 10/22s back in the '90's. To everyone who says "my stock 10/22 from 1968 shoots just as good". No. No it doesn't. This is what you tell yourself... but it's a big honkin' LIE. I have seen stock 10/22 trigger pulls exceed 8 lbs. Most come in around the 5lb. mark. 2-3 lbs. is better. Can't argue that fact. And the trigger feel of a Volquartsen setup is DEVINE. You die-hards can keep that chunky stock trigger. I couldn't care less. You do you. I'll be driving tacks. For the record... that left handed charging handle/optics base looks like trash. The only need would be tactical and that's what ARs are for. The open spring and guide rod are kinda exposed to dirt and water. I have never handled one do to the gimmick aspect... but the linkage can't be an improvement to feel. Do your trigger first and then the barrel and stock. Leave the spaceman gimmicks to the kids. Mounting the scope to the receiver is a newbie mistake. Get the Volquartsen barrel mount and a Volquartsen barrel. Or have the barrel of your choice tapped for that Volquartsen mount. I have done it both ways. A stock 10/22 feels primitive. Mine feel like the fine well sorted weapons they are.
I installed the Better BX? trigger by Ruger, a better extended mag release that goes under the trigger guard, and the bolt release so you just pull the bolt back and let go. So much better. Wish they made last shot bolt stops.
the Winchester Wildcat takes 10/22 magazines and has the last shot hold open feature
Popped a mag release and leupold rail on mine with a riton x3 ard and it’s a laser at 75yds
I use a lot of TK parts for the 10/22 and TX-22. If using the standard or BX trigger group on the 10/22 (I suggest BX) then the "guardian auto bolt release" is a must.
It's nice you're marketing the pins, but changing my bolt stop pin from metal to nylon is the upgrade people should be going for.
Just buy cheap quarter-inch nylon bolts and cut them down to size.
Keep a few of them and if they break or get lost it's no big deal.
Recoil reduction is great but the noise reduction is the real winner: the bolt clicks instead of clacks.
It also prevents the holes from getting bored-out by a metal pin that keeps getting slammed by the bolt.
Nylon will break before it deforms the holes in the frame (unlike metal pins, which people complain about for this reason).
I've put around 2000 rounds through mine with the nylon pin and never had an issue.
I gust got a 22 it’s my first gun I ever had they are cool
Cool video, but just curious as to why there's not a list provided of the parts you upgraded or changed out on the 10/22. Please share when you can. Thank you.
Upgraded ruger trigger and picatinny mount, video over
The pins... hell yeah on those.
The rail & southpaw side charging handle... hell yeah. I'm a southpaw shooter and prefer to use my left hand for charging.
The bolt & extended charging handle... hell yeah on the bolt, but I'd have no need for extending the charging handle.
The trigger group and extended mag & bolt releases. Hell yeah on the trigger, but I'd pass on the two releases. They look like it would be too easy to accidentally release the magazine. Okay, maybe I'd do the bolt release.
One device I'm strongly considering trying is an adjustable muzzle weight to help tune the barrel to the ammo I'd be using.
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
Legend!
🔥🔥🔥
What optic was that. And any recommendations on any decent red dot
I like my 10/22 now that I fixed the several issues with it. The main couple of issues prevented the rifle to hit the broad side if a barn from the inside!
The first issue I found was that the synthetic stock was warped are pressing on the barrel throwing windage off so far my scope only had enough range to correct for about half of the error at 25 yards!!! To fix this I shaved down the saddle area of the stock free floated the barrel. I also bedded the stock.
But this did not correct the elevation error. Again, it was so bad I was shooting decent groups at 25 yards but ran out of scope range and was still about 5 inches low.
That turned out to be the top of the upper receiver had a hump cast into the front under the mounting rail. I then re-centered the optic and and sanded down the hump until the elevation was essentially centered at 50 yards.
This kinda grouped the rifle but I wasn’t getting the consistency I should. Turns out it was the ammo. Winchester was simply bad. Federal a killer better. CC 40 grain mini mag Varmint is the deal. The rifle now shoots the way I want it to. But now I have several thousand Winchester and Federal bulk boxes I need to find a use for.
I really don’t like no having s pull to release bolt. I fixed that. And I don’t like not have a last round hold open. I haven’t dealt with that yet.
My particular rifle was completely unusable junk out of the box new. BTW, it came with the scope I was using mounted from the factory. Some of you would have figured all of these issues out. Most would not. It is hard to believe that this is the same company that made my Ruger American.
I spent many years away from .22. Has anybody else noticed how bad .22 ammo is that isn’t CCI?
I Always take a barrel band off cause i think it might put force on the barrel, and it soaks up harmonics as they reverberate through it
Overthinking? Yes
Went to my brother-in-law's place in Deering on Independence Day to squeeze off a few rounds. Drove by the shop in Weare. Live Free Or Die.
Funny! Mine is flawless factory stock! To each his own!
i have had my 10/22 since about 1990. Its got the pic rail on top. That it for me.
Unpopular opinion... but why get the "best" 22 and then go replace everything besides the receiver? I have shot 80's 10/22 that were never handled with white gloves. Maybe cleaned once every 1000 rounds, no fancy parts still runs like a sewing machine. Just saying if it isn't broken don't "fix" it.
I don't think any of these parts are aimed at reliability save the bolt; the rest are all ergonomic changes. These shiny bits seem more a case of "Whatever floats your boat" rather than "If ain't broke, don't fix it".
Firearms have always been built to purpose, and many people buy the Ruger over its competitors specifically because it has the broadest aftermarket support, allowing them to easily assemble a specific configuration that may not otherwise be available. Much the same story with guns like Glocks and AR-15 variants.
This is also an advert from a company that sells the stuff featured, so all the modifications are effectively a demonstration of their catalog's potential uses. People who prefer to maintain the firing grip at all times might favor that left-side charging handle, for instance. As a southpaw, the rotary safety would indeed be an upgrade for me. As well, Ruger's OE fire control pins like to grow legs, so the anti-walk versions would be a quality-of-life upgrade for folks who regularly service their plinkers. There are also a fair few who want top-of-the-line triggers for every gun they own, including the range toys.
All you need is the bolt release plate and the essential maintenance kit. Spend the rest of your money on a set of tech sights.
I tend to agree, but I get it to a degree. As a hand loader since the early 80s, I have a few that have never seen a factory round. Just went hog hunting last may and used my own concoction which worked like a dream. Something about brewing your own that makes things better and suspect the same for those who extensively mod their rifles. My own is factory and is going to stay that way.
i HEAR YOU THERE. My original 10/22 I bought for $60.10 out the door in 1973 when I turned 16 still shoots perfect after over 10,000 rounds . I would never modify it, but I would consider doing a new one .
The modern 10/22 has a poured slide and receiver. In the the late 90s they stopped milling the pieces. I sent my sons 10/22 breakdown back to ruger telling them to fix it. Eventually got my money back and bought him a m&p 15/22.
Great stuff. No need for the guitar bed.
Might want to do a before and after accuracy test. Test with optic before other upgrades. Plan this out BEFORE you hit “record.”
are you kidding? the idea is to sell stuff, not prove that it works.
There are plenty of demonstrations on the channel of us using the upgraded firearms and they run very well! But we could certainly do another video, an excuse to hit the range? we're with it!
Have you ever bought any thing from TK@@jessestreet2549
Need a name for that multicolored wood stock. Beautiful as hell
That is nice 👍
Is that manticore trigger box California compliant. Or would I have to order it through a ffl dealer
If i was allowed to have 10/22 in Australia id get all of those but would like them in a more discrete colour all the tk products i do have work well and are a great addition to the firearm bar 1
Thank you so much! Yeah some people prefer a more subtle look and there is nothing wrong with that. Thank you my friend!
Holy crap, not even a 10-22? What type of 22 can you have, if any?
great , what kind of scoope is that i need one for my 10/22 ruger can you supply that thank's
What magazine are you using in the video?
Excellent product review
Love the vid! I'm Canadian and just curious, are you from the American Midwest? ❤
New England born and raised!
Excellent per Usual
Thank you, Joe!!!!
I wonder if I could fit all that in a trek 22 stock
Is that left side charging handle non-reciprocating?
Where can i buy those items including the rifle as a all in 1 purchases
Thank you for taking time to make this video.👍
QUESTION?.. do they sell those accessories in Black versus that bright red?? or is red the only option?? Thank you for your response
all red parts mentioned are also available in black! =)
thanks
You should do more videos on other modifications
What other mods would you like to see? We would be happy to!
Edw5208 is spot on...nothing wrong with it "as purchased!"
So, how to make a $300 gun into a $1000 gun?
The only thing I'd bother with is the detent pins, that's a good idea but probably cost $75!
I built one from an 80% receiver that had a rail cast as a part of the receiver and the only custom part I used was a rear receiver mounting bolt.
They are $5!
If you've already installed the left side charging handle with picatinny rail why would you need to install an extended charging handle on the right?
Awesome video! Off topic but what was the song playing at the intro?
Thank you! It actually is a copyright free song in the audio library we use, so it doesn't really have a searchable name!
Neat shit!
At $374.99 the trigger assy is more than the rifle, I'm sure all that stuff is great, however does it make sense, especially with a factory barrel
I put the Ruger bx trigger in mine it's probably a 3 to4 pound pull works great for hunting there 90 dollars
Are you able to ship 10/22 parts to Washington anymore? Our rules changed overnight so I am not sure? Thanks a million!
As of now, we are shipping to washington!
You'll be on the FAT watch list, buddy!
The only upgrade the 10/22 needs is a better extractor in my mind. After probably in the realm of 30k things that was the only thing that was truly worn and causing problems.
I still have the carbine I got for my 14th birthday it was used when I bought it and I put around 20-30k in it and was getting light primer strikes by the time I was in my early 20s. I did a rebuild kit on the bolt new firing pin and extractor and it functioned like it did the day I bought it.
First buy the Brownells BRN-22 Reciver and build the 10/22 from the ground up.
The next one, thread the barrel :D
Can the rail and charging handle work with an extended one already installed on the side its on normally?
sure does!
Have the BX 10 green springs, been waiting on the 10/22 Krosspins all winter.
If you've placed an order, please call customer service. You definitely should have already gotten them, but we will take care of you!
What model holosun is that?
Even though I have been retired for a few years, if I can't hit the target with the original sights that came on my 10/22, I don't have any business shooting it. If I am going to change the trigger, a Franklin Armory Binary Trigger is going in it. I have one or two 50 round drums and a 110 round drum from Germany. Be safe my friends.
cannot get the binary triggers in Florida
what do all these upgrades cost?
Do they make any of these that don't make it look like a toy?
Will that KrossFire bolt resolve the BX25 loading/missfire issues? The anatomy of the BX25 is a massive oversight but I’d love to still be able to use it.
It totally depends, have you tried with another BX25?
We run a BX25 for fun on a similar build to this with no issues!
Where did you get that stock?!
I believe he could benefit from a carbon fiber bipod, a titanium muzzle brake, and a foregrip with a ceramic coating. I found the video extremly entertaining, just like my comment.
I have one of the very first 10/22’s, it has a factory blade front sight, is it possible to get the sight taken down and thread it for a suppressor? Or should I just buy a new barrel that is already threaded?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thank you, JHK
Hi! You could totally get it threaded, but personally I would get an aftermarket barrel with thread to preserve the integrity of the old one and just swap it out! You'd likely be saving money with a new barrel too.
I’m sold , what optic are you running. Ty 🤙
We are running the Holosun HS503 at the time of this video!
This is alot of money to be putting into a cheap 22
Agreed…and a CZ is a far superior rifle for just a little more!
@@FUNKRUBICON Agreed I know people who have bought them stock for competitions and do pretty well with them
Personally, dropping what comes out to about 617$ before S/H and tax on a gun that I spent 400$ on just isn't my kind of move. But if you have the capital and you really want that level of performance, go for it, ain't gonna knock it.
A good attitude to have, to each their own!
Fun
Very! haha
All 1022s come with a rail. Atleast the ones ive bought did
A majority of 10/22's do not come with a rail.
Instead of tapping, just glue a picatinny rail on it. 🤣😅🤣😅
Hi friends, this may be a dumb question, but I am looking to build a sweet 10/22. Something akin to the one in the video. With so many Ruger 10/22s out there, which one do you recommend as a starting point?
Honestly, any of the bull barrel models are great!
What was the cost of these upgrades???
