Little tips and pointers like this can seriously improve a day's windsurfing! Keep 'em coming!!
👍👍👍
Take a rol of tape with you and tape the piece were it comes together over, so you mask it. Works all the time when I go windsurfing in Tarifa…….
Great video again!
Thanks! Yes, I use tape too- but still good to know this trick just encase!
A tip to prevent the mast from getting stuck in the first place, apart from making sure the parts a clean before connecting, is to then cover the seal with electrical tape. Haven't had a mast stuck since using this method.
Agree this is what I do.
I use tape too… but can still get stuck (rarely)… so good to know this trick!
@@Cookiesports Yes agreed. And in that case your trick can help.
Cut a piece of bike inner tube, roll it over one half. Connect the two halves. Roll the inner tube over the joint and hey presto - sand can't get in and no stuck mast. Prevention is better than cure 😉
Nice idea. I tend to use tape, same goal!
The correct answer, requiring only a raised support of some kind (fence, car boot, etc) is thus:
Put the pointy end on the raised support, the other end on the ground. Firmly but not over strongly push down on the joint and 'bounce', repeating applying and removing pressure a few times. You may be able to hear any sand grinding. Rotate the mast a quarter turn and bounce again, then another quarter turn, and another, and so on, until it comes free.
This method may take a while, but it won't break anything and no extra equipment or people are required. You're welcome.
I know that method, works some of the time….but takes aaaaaaaaaages!
@@Cookiesports Indeed! I like to believe that any amount of stuckness can be overcome with this method - so long as you have the time! Probably a zen thing in that somewhere.
@@robertallison1580 🤣🙌🤣
I think I have worked at enough sand based windsurf schools to know that a Zen approach is great for mindfulness, but will take all day for us to get anything done! This method I am showing you is a guaranteed win, and quick! 🙌👍
The Zen method works when the boom clamp method fails.
Spraying in some penetrating spray speeds it up. Then use tape every time
Great tip !!
Thanks
🤩
I had never thought about using wd40. I have 1 mast that is super prone to sticking. However I discovered Silicone Lubricant a few years back and that's my new wd40. Will get some sprayed on next sesh!
🙌🙌🙌
best way to get a mast loose when it gest stuck is to wiggle it. let someone stand on the tip or put the tip against your cartire and wiggle with the other end. takes 30 seconds and loosens everything everytime without the need of anyones help. I rig on a sandy beach most of the times so it gets stuck al lot. this trick has never let me down ;-)
That technique can work, especially if you are alone or only have one boom! Trouble is it is not guaranteed, and if it is really stuck can take ages! The trick shown in this video is full proof!
Great life hack!
👍
Super fine sea sand where I sail that causes masts to stick like mad. Just seal the joint with electrical tape before sending the mast up the sleeve. Never had a stuck mast
Yes, I use tape too- but still good to know this trick just encase!
Hey!! General question not related to this video... when you describe your gear you don't mention Fin size. I've learned recently that i was using one fin which was too long for strong winds and reducing it on strong winds has dramatic effect on the avility to have a fun/successful session. Any thoughts on that?
Hi!
Nice question. I’ve started a series called “the walk-along’s” where I take questions like this and discuss them.
I’ll aim to answer this question through this series within the next week!
Here a link to the first one in the series, and how you can find the rest of the series!…

Good idea but booms aren't really designed for the kind of force. What I find works much better are a couple of rubber car oil filter wrenches. Designed specifically to provide as you say massive torque without crushing your mast. Never had a stuck boon not come apart with a few of these and they small and cheap,
Да,только где на пляже искать эти ключи..😊
That’d work well too… I just tend not to have oil filter wrenches knocking about- but I’ve always got booms!
I’ve never had this happen. Is it because I don’t windsurf around sand? I just brush off the mast connectors with my hand before I rig - no lube, no tape etc.
Yes- sand a grit are usually the culprits to getting them stuck!
What to do when you haven't more than one boom (or friend)?
Rubber oil grips!
How about the stuck top of the sail to the mast?
Friends! One hold that sail, one the mast. Pull. Still stuck… twist using the booms!
sometimes you maybe need 3 or 4 booms. 😄
👍👍👍
Да,у каждого виндсерфера был такой случай хоть раз в жизни!😊👍
👍
Luckily I only got one mast stuck so badly that by twisting is so badly it kinda fused the two parts together when we applied force. BUt good tip nonetheless :)
👍👍👍
Yes this trick sometimes works, but not always.
