  • In this video I individually inspect all of the components of the engine to figure out what work needs to be done and what parts I will need.

High quality as usual. You got lucky again with removing the rocker pivots, mine were really hard work to pull out. A couple of comments: maybe even more close u[p for things like the camshaft lobes; you know what a good bearing feels like but others might not be so comfortable judging the lateral movement (thinking of the camshaft bearing inspection).
Those main bearings and conrods are going to set you back. Ouch.
BTW there are two bearings on the selector drum although the parts manual shows only one. One is a cup needle bearing pressed into the crankcase. The other is behind the star mechanism at the other end of the drum. I cannot see any way of getting a replacement for this latter needle bearing (it's not on the parts diagram and not available off the shelf). Mine is OK, similarly, the cap bearing at the other end (also a sod to remove) is OK. I am not changing mine on the basis that they are light load and low rev bearings.

Great vid, thanks. My bloody rocker pins wouldn't budge! Looks like they're staying in there.

Thanks mate. You can get slide hammers with 6mm metric attachments but in all honesty unless it's run dry at any stage they will probably be fine.

If you are rebuilding the crank and are up for changing the camshaft and timing ..... a 277 rephase? Good luck by the way. I have total faith in you Brodie!

Hey mate great videos, fantastic explanation and step by step of everything you're doing, plus the filming quality is top notch! Just wondering where you're ordering your parts from? I'm restoring an XS750 and also in Aus! Ta

Thanks mate. I really appreciate the feedback. I'm getting most of my parts from Geoff's XS but I don't think he has much, if anything for the 750s. The 650s have a huge following and as such aftermarket parts are still manufactured and are easy to get. From what I'm told the 500 and 750 were considered to be lemons and as such had very short production runs before being dumped. Unfortunately I think you will have trouble finding parts.

Are there any components which you didn’t or wouldn’t vapour blast? It looks like your pistons were done, cylinders etc etc?

I only need to know which oversize it is on so I can order the right rings. As far as wear is concerned I'm more interested in the piston to bore clearance and taper.
