    I bought my new '72 XS-650 back in early '73. I loved that bike. I put about 25,000 trouble free miles on it before selling it. I had to sell it because I had nowhere to store it. The US Air Force shipped me to Maine for almost 4 years. I am fascinated by seeing the engine taken apart and put back together. Besides oil changes, the only work I did was replacing the clutch and adjusting the valves. The bike never left me stranded.

    Very impressed. I am sure these videos will build up a huge following over time. Great stuff Brodie.

      @@2wheelworkshop I think that is the whole point! Viewers enjoy the detail and the gradual progress. Those custom builds in 10 minutes are not for me.

    A note on keeping the needle rollers in place, use automotive assembly lube. It is very thick and sticky and provides a good first start lube but will wash out with the first run.
    And this is great info!
    I have a mates XS650 that has blown a big end and this gives me the confidence to rebuild it.

    Thank you so much for this! I have an XS2 that I probably have to do a full rebuild sometime in the future. This helps a bunch!

      You're welcome mate. I'm pretty sure the XS2 were 256 engines where as the one I rebuilt in this playlist is a 447. Very similar but slight differences, mainly with the crank as I discovered in this video.

    Great video Brodie. it's good to see someone passing on the knowledge and confidence to help people rebuild their bikes. i've just stripped my XS650 engine down and the crank is in a similar condition to how yours was. So time for a re-build. Keep making the video's.

    Great vid mate with some great lines:
    - I stand by my results (while almost hugging the crank).
    - hit it with a heavy hammer.
    Great job mate. Proper, deep fabrication.
    I used your valve vid as a handrail to doing mine yesterday. Really useful and I would have struggled without it. Bike running much better.

    I bought an XS650SF new in 79 and rode it 100,000 miles by 89. The crank was still fine.

      This engine has done a lot of work. It's had at least 3 rebuilds and was raced with a side car at some stage.

    Phenomenal, starting my own xs650 rebuild now. No way am I confident enough to break it down this far, but I'm watching all your videos anyway, I don't want to miss any other tips and tricks.

  • @adamkleinherenbrink4302

    These videos are the shit! I am going to be rewatching these when I get the balls to start working on my xs... Keep em coming brodie! You must have spent some serious time with your old man to grow nuts (smarts) enough to tackle these projects.

    A question if I may, is the 20t press need or will a 12t work?

    • @2wheelworkshop
      @2wheelworkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Couldn't say for sure but I don't think I was using all 20t. I just went off what I had read on the net. If 12t is what you have I would give it a go. Worst case you have to go and buy a 20t and all you have lost is a day. If you are buying one I wouldn't skimp to save a buck because you may end up buying twice.

    • @Peter57808
      @Peter57808 Před 2 lety

      @@2wheelworkshop Cheers, the 20t is expensive but i can make one with a 20t jack and fabricate the frame!
      Also of note, old mates 650 has blown the remains of the big end bearing right through the whole engine! Will be looking for a new gearbox as its stuffed as well!
