One of the major grips players had with Wes is that he used more team resources than an average character while providing less utility to the team. With these changes Wes now uses the same or less resources than others players, with all the downsides only affecting him and providing some small buffs to others players, like the speedy balloon. I believe this is a great change.

I think my favorite part of his whole update is with his animation, its a nice detail that Wes's misfortune indirectly makes others happy in some way, which mirrors how he works in multiplayer. It's also funny because the guy Wes saves in the same guy Maxwelled owed money to during the William Carter lore/backstory, meaning that the reason why Wes was put in gay baby jail was purely because Maxwell was salty that his revenge plot was ruined. He's such a petty old codger, its great.
I think they should've added a baloon sword that dose like 10 damage or something and pops the second you use it that can spook some mobs like spiders and the like. That would be funny and neat!
Party Balloon costs 5 Sanity and restores 5 base. So, it can be used to store sanity in a container for when you need it, BUT I looked into the code and the more characters are around when popping it and standing in the party zone, the more sanity it gives. 1>2>3>3.5>4 with 5 confetti ticks that means 20 sanity for everyone involed and a 15 sanity for 5 health trade off for Wes himself. The speed balloon is just genius. Can be used for kiting bosses early, Wes can give up his walking cane for others, speed is _just_ greater than walking cane so it still feels good to use, can be used as a flare, can be used as decoration and to mark your progress, even attracts mobs so it's perfect for the middle for toothtrap fields, the reed trap and as a semi reliable deerclops defense AND the best part of all: you can't just give it to your Wolfgang or Woodie and have them scout the whole map. It's just perfect. Unfortunatly the Balloon Hat has no reason to exist. The 20% wetness resistance is easily achieved by a football helmet and the tiny sanity boost is actually 0,8 per minute. With a duration of 4 minutes that's 3,5 sanity restoration for the cost of 5 sanity. It pops when you get hit and damages you by 5 when it breaks. There is no reason to wear it as lighting strikes are so incredibly unlikely and almost non damaging. I'd argue on average you take less damage if you don't use the balloon hat which is a shame.
