- Skyrim is a chaotic land and as it’s chosen savior, you’ve going to have a lot of adventures to go on, but one adventure offered by The Elder Scrolls 5 sticks out from all the others, finding a wife or husband. Marriages can be made between the Dragonborn and a seemingly endless number of characters and building a family acts as an interesting relief from all the dungeon crawling and questing we typically find ourselves undertaking in Skyrim. Alas, a few candidates for marriage are particularly unique characters definitely worth some further inspection. So today we’ll be taking a look at my top five choices for wives and husbands in The Elder Scrolls

I remember marrying the Argonian who works at the mine, he has a bug that makes him run away from the players house back to the mines. Many times I've fast travelled to breeze home to see him running off in the distance. I then have to chase him and force him to go back inside.

@@tennobytemusic1529 After you run through the dawnguard quest line a dialogue option pops up that say something like "Have you ever considered finding a cure for yourself" Then she leaves for a couple days and when you find her at dawguard later she's human. If you want to become a vampire later you have to contract vampirism through fighting a vampire just fyi and idk if it can be done if you've become a werewolf.

I like how you can get married, adopt children, become extremely respected and be a vampire that goes to city’s and drains peoples blood then come back home and act like nothing happened

kinda reminds me of Muzan from demon slayer. He's the king of all demons (essentially vampires) but uses his shapeshifting powers to just live with his wife and daughter in a city

Honestly i always saw the evil things you can and sometimes have to do as The Last Dragonborn slowly losing his "Mortal" side, with him being a demigod and all, i mean you probably saw so many outlandish things and talked with so many literal gods that at some point the concept of "Normal" just kinda vanishes almost entirely
I was stalking Aerin to "take care of him" after marrying Mjoll. A dragon attacked and did it for me. Only time I've ever been happy to be suddenly engulfed in flames
that's similar to what i was thinking, just wait around with Mjoll and Aerin in Riften until the Dawnguard vamp squad shows up (it's like once every 3 days, right?), Mjoll should survive, being a follower (and also, armored), and Aerin shouldn't

I caught aerin in an unfortunate cross fire when he randomly appeared during a stormcloak/imperial fight, he got in between me and the guy i was fighting, had no choice :( ;)

The only problem with marrying Aela is the random quests where your spouse gets kidnapped by bandits or vampires. When the NPC tells me about that, I can imaging my Dragon born saying..."Wait, we're talking about Aela, right? You know, tall and athletic Nord woman, member of the inner circle of the Companions, fights like a hellcat, and can turn into a 7'6" werewolf at will. Did they use Mammoth tranquilizers to subdue her

I'm planning on seeing about marrying her as I've not actually gotten married in any of my playthroughs, same with actually doing the companions quest line. The main problem I'm having is choosing a house, with a lot of hunting grounds for her to use. I only have vanilla skyrim otherwise I would build one in Falkreath

Yeah these guys put in so much content, sometimes they didn't have time to really flesh out some of the more interesting characters. I could see several quest ideas involving her, including dealing with the whole Thieves guild thing. It's tough though because no matter how you slice it, the Thieves Guild comes back strong, and continues to ally with Maven Blackbriar if she becomes Thane, so the city government remains corrupt, and there's not much chance of her logically making peace with the guild, even if she wanted to focus on other problems.

Man a questline with Mjoll that made it to where you could systematically dismantle the Thieves Guild would have been legendary
Like the "destroying the dark brotherhood" quest! It'd lock you out of the theives guild quest, though, which kinda messes with other quests. the dark brotherhood questline requires you to go to the theives guild, as does the stones of barenziah.

I feel like a lot of the NPCs get kind of dull to be around after you exhaust all of their dialogue. Which usually only takes one or two conversations. This includes spouses and adoptees. I kind of wish more followers had quests associated with them so you can spend time getting to know them. Which is why it's a cruel irony that both of the main DLC followers are unmarriable...

To anyone who wants to marry Mjoll the Lioness, but doesn't want Aerin hanging around. If you just kill him, it will make your bride angry. So, as Mjoll to move as far from Riften as you can, Solitude or Markarth should do the trick. When Aerin shows up, as Mjoll to follow you. This will prompt Aerin to head home. Tell Mjoll to wait, then follow Aerin back to Riften. He's not a fighter. There are many dangers on the road back to Riften. You just have to stalk him long enough for Skyrim's ecosystem to do its thing.
Do save before trying this, just in case Mjoll blames you anyway.

I always start a new play through intent on making all new decisions but then I hear Jenassa saying something about bathing in the blood of enemies and I fall in love all over again.
My favorites are probably Farkas and Vilkas from the companions. I find the duality of the two fun and how they can switch from the spouse talk to the Companions leader talk when you ask them for work is entertaining to me

I never see Cosnach on these lists, I think he's a really underrated spouse. People seem to not like him because he's a drunk and the first thing he does is fight you, but he has unique dialogue as a spouse that I find very endearing. He sounds like he's genuinely smitten with the player, and it's adorable

Considering 90% of the population of skyrim appears to be bandits, necromancers, and dragons, I'd say the guy whose willing to run an errand for you is miles ahead of most of the competition!

Have to say I am annoyed Bethesda cut out Ingun Blackbriar and Elisif the Fair as marriage candidates. Would have been fun to marry into money and power.

Exactly. Those two possible candidates would have a whole quest dedicated to them. Ingun would probably end up becoming the Jarl of Riften, with you as her second / steward in charge, while also husband. Elisif would have the most impressive questline, with her becoming High Queen and you becoming High King of Skyrim. You'd be more powerful than the Empire in the province. They could even add a management option to the palace or the city. That would be fun to experience. But it takes time to put that in game. The Civil War questline is quite bugged sometimes already.

In my first playthrough of Skyrim I was under the impression Erin and Mjoll were already a couple, so when the option to marry Mjoll came up I assumed she left him for a new wife- The Dragonborn. Then he moved into our home, and I then began assuming that we were just all married to each other now.

I mean, you still got Lydia and you can make Aela your steward, or some other follower depending on your taste. Now at the moment i have Aela as steward, jordis as a housecarl and Iona (favourite vanilla housecarl) as my follower always around. Then theres one cook, one servant and one female bard.
I dont even have a spouse. Theres two single bed but theyre for the kids, that leaves ONE double bed and some cozy floor spots around the fire for 7 adults....

One of my favorite play throughs personally was as a Khajiit, marrying Ysolda, and using crafting and the thieves guild to take over the world economically. My other favorite spouse was Muiri. No specific reason why, she just seemed interesting.

My current playthru is the first time I've married Taarie. She has the same dialogue as Grelka and Temba, but her voice actor's delivery of the lines is surprisingly sweet. What seems like aggression from Grelka sounds like gentle teasing from Taarie.
I remember when I was 10 when the game came out I married Uthgerd the Unbroken I started living in her house I went through almost all the questlines with her I got mad one day and Mauled her to death as a werewolf in her own house I forgot to save so I just had her dead body sitting on the living room floor.

On my first playthrough I married Aela the huntress and after our wedding was complete….she ran away and I couldn’t find her, she wasn’t in her normal location and she ran away so quick I didn’t have the chance to tell her what house I lived at.
I eventually managed to use cheats to teleport her to me but seriously if she didn’t want to get married she shouldn’t have suggested it lmao

The first man I ever married in Skyrim was Sorex and he was quite gentle and loving, especially to the children we adopted. But, this was like a long time ago but I still remember when I went back to the home we all shared, Breezehome, and he was talking about going fishing or something like that with our son. During that, I was questioning why he didn’t want to do anything with our daughter and he just said something about it that just made me kill him in the kitchen when I thought no one was around but there was Lydia so I had to go. This was like almost 7 or 8 years ago but I just distinctly remembered this and I had to share it.

Theres a mod for that. Makes most people able to be married. As most have the marriage dialogue and stuff in the code just isn't primary. This mod makes them primary pretty much anyone can be married

Actually, usually chose Lydia just because she's the first one available, but after reading a few comments on similar videos I'm curious about Shahvee or one of the Orc women just because of the way they treat life and pressure, not like "we're gonna fight alongside till the end" or "I'll have the best business" or "Bring me 10 bear pelts to satiate my hatred" but "Life's a bitch and we'll have to get through it togerther". Not eternal fight, not eternal trade, not whatever dumb reason, but "we respect each other and we'll stick together and see for ourselves what the life brings us". It's like what they said in the Temple of Mara "Life in Skyrim is short and brutal" or something like that. Haven't yet even started Serana's quest line, don't know what she's like but if we're talking non-modded game - Shahvee, Orcs or maybe Mjoll, that's my choice.
I always choose either Ysolda or Muiri, they both start their own stores and I'm not a fan of followers (I prefer sneaky archery, and then blowing everything up with magic if I'm found out. Sneaking and explosions are 2 things the NPC AI isn't that great at dealing with)

Imagine asking some stranger to help you woo a girl, he helps, then forces you to fight for him, cucks you and forces you come to the wedding and every so often you have to follow the Dragonborn into his mansion and see the woman you loved raising the Dragonborn's (adopted) children. Being a Skyrim NPC is suffering.

This list is so accurate. I wanted to get married in Skyrim after a while and went all over the place looking for potential candidates. I wore the amulet of mara around and waited for suitors to notice. I remember thinking that sailor in windhelm that takes you to solsteim was cute but he wasn't an option. Then there were some drunken guys who if you pay off their debt then their all yours, I know right, where do I sign? I even tried to marry the two guys who help you in the beginning of the game. No dice. Anyway, that's when I went to Solitude and went to the best and only inn there. I was complaining to my sister that the only guys in Skyrim you could marry had massive debt and a lack of work ethic (even though I didn't need money-I had all eight homes at this point). That's when I saw Sorex sweeping the floor and fell instantly in love with him. We strike up a conversation and I do his mission for him and he proposes and I waste no time making my way to riften to get hitched. He asks if I want to live with him and I say yes out of curiosity. That's when I realize that he technically owns the winking skeever inn. I back my character up so far to get a good look at it and bump her head into the sign of the building across the street. His father and sister are good people, too. I knew I made the right decision.

Besides doing the dress modelling misc quest, you will also need to have some speechcraft skill and invest on her store. It has to be through her specifically and not her sister otherwise it kinda bugs out. Not sure if the uesp fixed it but for those who don’t have it, here ya go xD

My first choice was always Marcurio from Riften. I loved how sassy and snarky he was and then turns out he’s a total nerd for Nord ruins. The only sad thing is once you marry him most of his passive dialogue when adventuring with him goes away which makes me sad that I can’t hear his sarcastic remarks anymore.
That’s not all you have to do to win over Taarie. You also have to invest in the Radiant Raiment, and invest in it through her, not her sister.
Serana is the only girl I wanted to marry and she is not available. Thank god there is a mod for that.

For those asking how to marry taarie, you need speech 70 and invest perk points upto the investor perk, buy the radiant rament clothes and wear them when you go speak to the yarl in the palace, now finish the quest and invest 500 in the radiant rament store give the 500 gold to taarie only, if you give the investment to her sister you will not get the dialogue option to marry taarie when you wear the mara amulet
I personally like Brylana Marion ( sp. ?) from the college. She is a powerful Mage, descent in close quarters weapon fighting, and tell anyone who she is about to fight, how badly she is going to mess them up. But in such a sweet voice. Cracks me up.
