The Heaton Park gigs was originally meant to be two nights, but they sold 150,000 tickets within 15 minutes. They then added a 3rd night and sold that out within minutes also. Roughly 220,000 tickets sold in about an hour. That alone just shows the impact the Roses had in the UK

You are right that this is stoner music, I was completely sober for this gig. This was the middle night of three massive comeback gigs at this venue. These were the gigs they advertised when announced their return. Was my first time seeing them live. This is the only track which official footage has been released of. They are legends in the U.K., though particularly Manchester and the crowd were euphoric. Crowds at Roses gigs set of loads of flares. Ian brown free-flowed the lyrics when recording it. The drum riff has been sampled in many hipity-hop songs.

Being from the UK and growing up with the Stone Roses I have to admire both of you for doing these reactions. You get it in a way that's not 100% right because you weren't there but because you really do appreciate it. Keep doing it ✌🏼

Honestly to me, John is the modern day Jimmy Page. Although some fans are a bit cold on The Second Coming Album. John's playing all the way through that album is on some other planet!!! The whole band is another level really, Mani is a sick Bassist, Remi is one of the best drummers out there and Ian Brown is iconic as front man!

I was there and it was euphoric! A gig we all waited 25 years for that we never thought would ever happen! This video does not do it justice I was literally in tears. I’ve been lucky to see them several times and it’s always an out of body experience! Please, please look into studio recordings of waterfall, I wanna be adored, going down, bangs the drum, love spreads… the list is endless. Ian Brown’s swagger is insurmountable, Reni is a Genius, Squire a guitar God and Mani is the man! I was lucky enough to bump into Mani once and he was lovely!

I was there too. A mate of mine pointed out, it's was like Manchester's Golden Jubilee. The whole city was buzzin. I went to the gig a few years later in the stadium, and it was a mess. Scally's fighting and throwing piss everywhere. Made me appreciate the Heaton Park gig even more.

  • @Bradzybee

Spencer, that was the lyrics to One Direction - Fool's Gold you were reading out, LOL. Here are the Roses' lyrics...
Gold road's sure a long road
Winds on through the hills for fifteen days
The pack on my back is aching
The straps seem to cut me like a knife
Gold road's sure a long road
Winds on through the hills for fifteen days
The pack on my back is aching
The straps seem to cut me like a knife
I'm no clown, I won't back down, don't need you to tell me what's going down
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
I'm standing alone, I'm watching you all, I'm seeing you sinking
I'm standing alone, you're weighing the gold, I'm watching you sinking
    Fool's gold
These boots weren't made for walking
The marquis de sade never made no boots like these
    Gold's just around the corner
Breakdown's coming up round the bend
Sometimes you have to try to get along dear
I know the truth and I know what you're thinking
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
I'm standing alone, I'm watching you all, I'm seeing you sinking
I'm standing alone, you're weighing the gold, I'm watching you sinking
    Fool's gold.
if you like Squire then you should react to Oasis - Champagne Supernova at Knebworth. Squire sits in for that one. Absolutely sublime.

I've said it before, will again. When folk are recommending Waterfall, which they will and with good reason. Grab this version, rehearsals for this set of performances. Plus you might try to appreciate Reni and Mani a bit more, especially with Reni adding harmonies makes it easier to focus on him. One of the top ten drummers ever, could lock into anything, then riff and break over it without stealing the show, just building the song from the bottom up

This is Heaton Park, its a huge park in Manchester. This was a comeback/homecoming gig. The Stone Roses psychedelic, come down vibe is on purpose, the Madchester scene of the late 80's early 90's was all dance/rave with e and acid, the Stone Roses helped to chill the mood with a spliff after partying all night.

Liam blatantly bases himself on brownie, but a couple of years ago I realised brownie walks just like Bruce Lee while watching Enter the Dragon. I read he was well into martial arts as a kid and wanted to be Bruce Lee well before he got into music. So hilariously i reckon that Manchester swagger came from Bruce Lee. I almost completely agree with you but would put Reni at no1. He was a complete natural and born to drum. Such a shame about the legal issues after the debut album. You can see a few brief glimpses of him playing in circa 1985 but the person videoing it didn't concentrate on him at all so, as far as I can tell, there is no decent early footage of him playing live. I know you can't play the actual album recordings, but have a listen for yourselves lads. You will not regret it.

  • @THC-TheHereticalcomplainer

I was definitely there. Mind blowing stuff which brought the whole of Manchester to a standstill. Beautiful stuff...and yeah, excellent drugs too.

Heaton Park was an affirmation of total love of great music. An incredible feeling.
However, I'm insanely jealous of those lucky people who were at the Warrington Parr gig.

React to the Smiths. Johnny Marr is the greatest guitarist of all time and they had a huge impact on Noel Gallagher.

I love Johnny's guitar work as well as John's, but it's a hell of a long bow to call Johnny the greatest of all time.

No. It was American Victor Carrol Squire who invented the Squire Fender.

Reunion gig in 2012 , 75,000 per night. It was the first paying gig since they split in 1996 and I was there, about 10 rows from the front. One I’ll never forget

Love Spreads - The Stone Roses, pretty much anything by The CharlatansUK (as they’re known in America).
Love these videos and to see a very different slant / opinion from America.
And you always seem to comment on the size of the crowd, these crowds are pretty normal for the bands.
Keep going, on & on & on & on.

i wasnt at this particular show but they played 3 gigs in 3 days over 1 weekend and i was at the last of the 3, the 1st july 2012. I also saw them at wembley june 17th 2017 and both we're great shows, i got into the roses as an 11 year old kid through an older cousin, while most of kids my age were into kylie and jason and new kids on the block i was into the stone roses, happy mondays, inspiral carpets, 808 state and the soup dragons and many more plus the acid house music that was around at that time, i still love the roses, they are my favourite band and its a shame they only put out 2 records but due to recording restrictions they we're screwed. now my take on the roses is that the main drive for me is the rhythm section, mani on bass and reni on drums, such a great foundation for john squire to play over, yes hes a great guitarist but the rhythm section is solid as fuck, ian brown although not the greatest singer suits this band down to the ground and is an excellent front man so add all that together and you have a great band, like i say its a shame they didnt do more. read into them guys, its an interesting story and keep up the good work with your reviews 👍

Heaton park is an absolutely massive park right near me, all the big Manchester bands play there, plus they have a pretty decent golf course running round the edge of the park which is cool
