There are a TON of sweet Spellslinger cards you can jam into the deck not mentioned here because I kept it at $50 budget. Primal Amulet, Baral, Bonus Round, and Thousand-Year Storm all didn't make the $50 cut, but they're all very sweet recommendations. What do you think? And do you prefer Zaffair or Veyran leading the deck?
I like Zaffai more, because I like that they have a useful magecraft ability which is interesting and not very strong. I think Veyran is a very nice and strong card, but too easy to build around as it includes most of the spellslinger staples and too strong for me, a filthy casual. Would be very interested in your Zaffai approach because i think there are two routes you can go: Tokens or 10 damage X spells and its kinda confusing which path to go.
The only thing I don't understand why keeping is the elementalist's pallete, as the deck only has 3 x spells. I'd swap it for a cheaper ramp spell, like mind stone and prismatic lens or an underrated ramp spell in blue, Mitotic manupulation, which can serve as land ramp or possibly cheat out a good card (and it's only 25c). Besides that, I love the upgrades, I think changing the commander to Veyran was the best choice and that the upgrade list is pretty solid for it's budget. Even though the upgraded decklist has no tutors, it's huge draw power is strong enough to overcome the needs for it.
@@zujiry661 The X spells sounds like the most powerful approach to me, cause... infect. I didn't really consider the tokens approach, which is a really interesting approach now that you mentioned.
I added Melek and Mizzex to mine, shuffle all four, and let an opponent pick one at random for me to play. Love having Veyran out with Sun Birds Invocation to sometimes double/triple up spell casts. Breena might be my favorite card from this commander set, but the Prismari deck is my favorite as a whole.
i am currently considering rebuilding my kykar storm deck into a spellslingerdeck with some of the cards of this precon, because storm is really only fun for one player.
Kykar got so many toys this set, it's unreal. The whole set feels like upgrades for older commanders and I love it. I personally I am putting her in my Kalamax deck and making it a pure fork deck.

I've been trying to build a non cedh version of curiosity control and am sad that veyran didn't get partner just so I can have green for the extra curiosities... but I think ima build her
Do you think Uvilda, Dean of Perfection would be good in this deck? It's an interesting card. Let's you potentially cast some larger spells earlier in the game than normal
I prefer Zaffai as the commander for this deck; much more interesting to mess around with in a less broken way. Any chance we can get a budget upgrade for him please?
I am suprised that Shattering Spree is not in there. I guess By Force is cheaper. Also I am not sure about Commit to Memory over Soul Guide Lantern. Yes it is a spell and you can cast it from the yard, I am not sure. Also holy hell when did Aetherflux spike that high I bought a few copies last year for 2€. Wow. If you now excuse me I need to find a way to tweak the decklist and still put in fun spells like Insight and Past in Flames.
Awesome stuff here! I just got this deck and definitely wanted to gear it towards Zeyran. Question: I currently have a copy of Reforge the Soul and Temporal Mastery, and am looking at Thousand Year Storm. Would those fit in here? And if so, what could I safely switch? Thank you, and have a good day!
Retracted Image not drawing a card makes it significantly worse than Explore... at least in this deck it'd rarely be a *complete* dud, but I'm not a fan of spending a card slot on this. I'd suggest "Savor the Moment" as the "blue explore". but it's 6$ :
It costs 1 less mana though. There's more apt comparisons at 1 mana. But I run Retraced Image in my Niv-Mizzet Spellslinger deck and I adore it there, and this precon is basically the same.
@@MTGGoldfishCommander I feel like in a deck where you aren't guaranteed to draw a card just by casting it, it gets much worse very fast. If you ever draw it past turn 4 or 5, unless you have a way to make it cantrip, it might be the worst draw in your deck.
I don't see many X or 10 or more spells,I feel bad cause I dream of playing those cards and pinging 10 damage..and probably I will keep dreaming since I find it very difficult to triggered the last ability multiple times lol
Great video! But cutting hedron archive? It's a great card, isn't it. 4 mana ramp two and also 2 mana for sac and draw two cards. It's great in early and late game! Seth would never cut HA (obviously joking)

I mean, it is an upgrade video. Since commander is an eternal format, you have access to older, far stronger cards. Why would I keep all these new, powered down versions when I can replace them and make the deck stronger? I believe these decks are meant as a starting point. A new player can pick this up and play with friends, but eventually will remove the cards that synergize the least with the decks theme. I think they’re worth buying if you don’t already have the main components to make the deck it’ll become.
@@Dilgoro I had this experience upgrading the Boros deck from commander legends: just a few cards ended up in the deck after the upgrade. It’s easier to buy the commander alone and build around it, otherwise you end up with a lot of useless cards

Yeah but where is krark, the thumbless? It's really cheap and it's like the strongest card if played with veyran
"2 down, 4 to go". Apparently Tomer has the secret sixth commander deck
This is truly a Gyome tier upgrade!

veyran is one of the most interesting cards printed in a long long while. ill build her or include her in kykar.

Good? Yes. Interesting? Definitely not. It’s Panharmonicon for instants and sorceries. It builds itself.
I'm putting it in Kalamax. Whenever you cast your first instant you get 6 magecraft triggers, copy the spell 2 times and put 4 counters on Kalamax
Thank you, I was looking for a good deck tech for Veyran.
I am gonna try to keep some of the new spells included on the precon.
I always had a love for theatre and this is a great deck to base it around plus it will be my first spell strong commander deck in the collection
I love the Commit//Memory upgrade. Casting Commit on a Dovin's Veto feels SO GOOD.
Great upgrade vid! Makes me want to pick up the prismari deck
Yessss Tomer I love it! Was brewing this for a friend
We are updating his old Keranos spellslinger deck with that 2021 glow up. Sorry keranos, you're out buddy. Veyran is in.
Sunbird's is an interesting choice to remove. Especially if you're running Veyran to get 2 triggers off it
Viva la Archive!

Its 75 now for those still interested

Why didn't you just add Heat Shimmer to get the Heat Shimmer/Dualcaster/NAru Meha Combo?

I just built kess....idk if I wanna get rid of her for this ;-;
Just play grixis magecraft. It's what she basically is already but you get access to black tutors, storm cards, rituals, removal, and big mana

I wanna make an eternal dominion deck with zaffai, each turn bonk someone for 10 and steal something from their deck
That sounds like such a hella silly time and I love it
Now that's the spice I do like
Hey what other cards should I cut that u didn’t get too because of the budget
This might me the commander deck that I just buy the commander cause I would remove literaly everything else cause I want to turn it into a storm deck

My upgrades assume you've swapped Zaffai for Veyran. It focuses on more spellslinger triggers and cheap / free spells to trigger more consistently.
