The people who have criticized this video are the kind of people who have contributed to Goa being in the gutter today. No seriously, congratulations because you have just exposed to the rest of the world how ignorant and small minded a lot of us Goans are!
First, you idiots will use ENGLISH in its entirety to condemn the adoption of a few words from a foreign language. How did you guys start speaking English anyway, did the British force you? No, because languages that are the língua franca of the region get adoped inadvertently - but I don't see you bitching about English, because you hypocrites benefit from it.
And the "forced conversions" you lot keep barking on about, get over yourself - that was abolished in 1812, that's 210 YEARS ago and affects your life in no way today, but you'll obviously make in sound like it happened last week. Also the inquisition wasn't even that successful or you wouldn't have a 70% Hindu majority in Goa today!! In the 1500-1800, Inquisitions were common all over the world, it was just the way of the world was back then (then again that's what the Modi Sarkar is trying to do TODAY LOLLL)
Also for those trying to fight for the sanctity and purity of the "original" language, you morons there's no such thing as an original language. All the Indic languages (especially the non-dravidian ones) are heavily influenced by Persian, Arabic and Turkik languages - as is the cuisine (Mughlai), clothes (Kurtas), music (gazals), iconic monuments (Taj Mahal), even what the freakin country is called (HinduSTAN; Stan=region in Persian). And let me burst your biggest bubble - "Indians" as we know today (especially non-dravidian) ALL trace their lineage to tribes who migrated from Central Asia, around the Aral sea 4000 years ago - this is a proven fact, regardless of what Narendrabhai Modi tells you. These are the people who evented Hinduism as well (the "original" religion that the Goans converted from).
But instead of celebrating and embracing our diverse and rich cultural heritage that created something so unique, we'd rather sit in our hole of stupidity and point fingers. And I must say Goans are especially talented at this - because there's another version of this video, but it's between Marathi and Portuguese, and the Maharashtrians are in praise of it.

I am from Mangalore and speak Konkani . There are hundereds of words in Mangalorean Konkani of Portuguese origin. I am actually studying them now and preparing a research paper on it.

@@vaishaliwellingkar564 Yes you are right Mangalorean Konkani is much more purer, but it still has loan words from Tulu. both Hindu and Christian versions of Konkani have it. although Mangalorean Christian Konkani has more. and there is a huge difference in the lilt in amchigele and Christian Konkani. my only fear is that they start diverging more and more to the extent of further dividing Konkani speakers, if we don't unite. the children of Sarasvati will vanish like the other cultures before us.

I loved this video! I am brazilian and I though very interesting some variations among brazilian and portuguese words. for example: for the word "praça", we would say "parada de ônibus" and for "pagamento", we use "dinheiro". Congratulations!
Estás errada. Praça é lugar... parada de ônibus é paragem de autocarros...dinheiro é dinheiro e pagamento (efetuar pagamento) é pagamento!
In spanish a “praça” would be a plaza, but a bus stop would be “parada de bus” or just simply “parada”. Meanwhile “pagamento” would be “pago”

In Marathi also we use same words Mez and pagar for table and Salary.
For front yard of home we use word verandah/veranda which is also Portuguese word.
In Hindi too table is called mez.

Growing up I was curious of some of the words in my Konkani from Mangalore (Bantwal). I hope someone does some linguistic research. Even after 400 years of our exodus we still have words like Pescacathi (knife), Rulav (sooji). I was surprised the local Goan Hindus did not have these words in their langauge. The word Cash was borrowed by Portuguese (Caxa), it was for Kasu a monetary unit used in the Cochin Kingdom, it is so used in our Konkani.
Mez is called meju in kannada..

And it is "mesa" in Malayalam, which is also the same in Spanish. Portuguese has some influence on Dravidian languages and vice versa. It's really cool when you discover the similarities.

I am a konkani from karnataka. We don't use any portuguese words cause we escaped Goa when the Portuguese inquisition and forced conversions started. Instead we have loan words from kannada and tulu in our konkank.

This is not that way, instead have roots from Indo-European linkage, maybe rather you can call it meeting of two branches, these words are found in Tamil literature even before the arrival of Portuguese, which further suggest that, words were talked into the Portuguese language. Similar with your video on Malayalam.

As we started the episode by saying that languages evolved form each other. As far as we know, the ancestors have used these very same words and we continue to do so. Technically speaking these are the Konkani words now. We do not have any document to show you what they were called before our ancestors started using these words in Konkani :)

Our ancestors fled Goa and settled in Karnataka. We don't use any of those 10 portugues words said here. We use few kannada words in day to day life to align with our Local language. I have visited portuguese in 2017 with my family and visited many places like Lisbon, cascaias and pena place and roamed all the streets of Lisbon. I didnot find any who has any knowledge of India when asked about it
My parents moved here much before I was born and hence Konkani is my mother tongue as I was born here. I use these words every day literally every time. So I can relate and hence the video was made.

The word Janel is used in Tamil also for window.. So, I doubt if it was entirely adopted from Portuguese.
SO to be very clear these are Portugese words that are in Goan Konkani only cause of the horrors of colonization and genocide. Konkani spoken outside goa has no such words and the vast majority of Konkans who especased the Portugese inquisition and mass genocide DO NOT speak Goan Konkani!

My Tamil friends also use the word Shavi all the time... that means key 🔑 (Portuguese = Chave)
I read somewhere that there are more than 170 words of Portuguese origin in Tamil Language
And Indian cuisine also have Vindaloo (Portuguese = vinha de alhos)

That a lie, some words come from Sanskrit and Portuguese is a branch of Sanskrit language that’s why the sound similar and not because it was borrowed from Portuguese.
@ferzy09 Ayurveda is an ancient Indian health care which has been practiced in India since 5000 years ago, it talks about Tomatoes, Potatoes are Rajasic meaning high acidity and eating it in summer doubles the irritation in stomach so early Indians were eating Tomato and Potatoes. Also King Chalukya text 1130 AD Manasollasa contains cuisines made of Tomatoes and Potatoes so clearly they are used in India before Portuguese.
Portugese came from Latin not Sanskrit. And sanskrit came from proto indo European language which is the mother of all Indo European language
