Mario Party Advance is a real oddity in the Mario Party Series. After the incredibly successful Mario Party 6, Hudson Soft decided to challenge themselves and create Mario Party Advance for the Game Boy Advance, which was on significantly weaker hardware than the Mario Party games on the GameCube or even the Nintendo 64. Multiplayer was also much tougher, so this game needed to get a bit creative with how it wanted to approach multiplayer gameplay on the go. I really hope that you enjoy this Mario Party Advance retrospective - The Mario Party 7 video is next but that one is definitely going to be the longest Mario Party video so far. There's a lot to talk about, so I hope that you enjoy that video coming soon. Thanks so much for watching, and if you read this far in the description, thank you. Your support of this series means a ton to me.

I palyed it on an emulator and it was so fun I can't explain it. Like 2 min. after I walk up I am turning computer on to play it. For me it was a lot of fun.

I played it on the Wii U and I thought it was alright.
It was worth playing just for how unique of a game it is.

The game is a good one for a GBA game. I don't think a proper MP would have functioned well on the GBA so MPA is as good as they could do. I remember a bunch of good matches with my friends back in High School using the MyBoy emulator

That’s super true. Even though i have a lot of critiques of Mario Party Advance, I gotta admit that there’s a certain charm to it because there’s really nothing else like it. It feels like a relic of an era where portable games were so different and the writing is so clever, i have a certain respect for just how unique it is. Thanks for watching!!

Mario Party Advance is truly a hidden gem. What makes this game so great in my opinion is how full of personality the people of Shroom City are. The dialogue is mostly charming, with some silliness here and there, but overall it does a great job to make the player interested for these characters, like Mr.E and Shroomlock. Not every quest in this mode is awesome but most of them are great and the fact you have freedom to complete them in any order is very refreshing.
Outside of Shroom City, I can see why people don't like this game, Play Land is the standard Free Play mode, Party Land is basically unplayable without link cables and Challenge Land is the only substantial extra mode.
So yeah, Shroom City is what makes me like this game because it had passion put into it, something that is very lacking for every game after Mario Party Island Tour.

Thanks for watching!! i do agree - i think that this game has a good sense of humor, it’s just a shame that actually playing it is a little underwhelming.

I'm glad to finally see an analysis of this game that isn't just saying "it's different, so it's bad". I have a lot of fondness for this game and would constantly play it on road trips as a kid. Random Koopa Kid spawns aside, I thought Shroom City was really neat and made me actually care about the world in a Mario game, which is a very rare occurrence. And the minigames and gaddgets were cute time wasters that pushed me to go for high scores. I can understand how someone might not be into all of that, though, and I have a feeling that revisiting the game will make me see it in a darker light. But it's a really interesting take on a single-player centric Mario Party.

Thanks for watching!! Yeah i do think that this game does have a lot of charm to it. there’s a certain je ne sais quoi to it that is tough to describe - maybe it’s its uniqueness compared to the other games, maybe it’s it’s writing, or maybe it is the fact that this game feels like a relic of an era - a time when multiplayer was a lot more difficult and the developers had to get more creative to create a party game on the go. Anyways, while I may not love this game, I have a certain respect for what it tried to do, if not just a little bit ahead of it’s time. Thanks as always for watching!!

Mario Party Advance was ultimately hindered by the hardware it was on and what it was trying to be. The GBA was just too limited to fulfill an actual Mario Party experience and a single player game based off of Mario Party’s rule set just doesn’t mesh all that well. With that said, the plot, scenarios, and charm could’ve maid an excellent Mario RPG. Plus it didn’t help that it came out after the DS launched in 2004.
Another fantastic video! Though I’ll say this Mario Party 7 plays very similarly to 6, so I bet you’ll have a great time with it.

Thanks so much for watching & commenting! I agree - there's nuggets of something great in here but forcing it into a Mario Party for the Game Boy Advance just doesn't mesh well at all.

13:20 It all depends on the Koopa Kids' colors, in this minigame in particular you have to hit the Blue ones twice unless you have the occasional super hit that gets rid of a full line of them if I recall correctly.
I love Mario Party Advance not as a Mario Party game because it sucks in that respect, but as its own thing it's such a charming game despite the legit criticism you expressed!

So much potential in this one. They could've included more RPG elements to make the single-player focus feel more justified, decresed the grinding, and borrowed just a whiff of creativity from something like Wario Ware and its single-player mini games

7:23 the posters do have a fucntionaloty though - they change the title screen.
And for as much as you say the minigames are too easy - I very much did struggle with a lot of them as a kid, even including the easier variants within Schoom City.
For a kid - it is a challenging, but very fun adventure.
