- Taking Orthodontic Pictures for Braces or Invisalign is extremely important. Anyone who has worked with me or any of our Orthodontists knows that taking proper orthodontic pictures is vital for treatment planning, showing patients before and afters, record keeping, and being professional.
Taking amazing pictures is a craft that I highly believe in. I also think with proper training and knowledge anyone can take perfect pictures.
The goal of this video is to show you how we take pictures at Thrive Dental and Orthodontics. I have been taking the same style of pictures since I was in my residency at USC.
For any office, you will take at least 5 intraoral pictures and 3 extraoral pictures. Some offices may even take more pictures of the patient half-smiling and various other extraoral photographs.
I believe good quality pictures show patients you are a professional office, helps the doctor's treatment plan properly, create better communication if you need to discuss the patient with anyone else, and also just look amazing.
I still look at my before and after pictures from when I got braces when I was in my 20s.
Some key concepts you should know after this video:
1. Camera settings
2. Order of picture taking
3. Plane of occlusion and how to adjust accordingly
4. How to take intraoral pictures
5. How to take extraoral pictures
6. How to use a mirror to take pictures
7. How to use cheek retractors to take pictures
8. How to communicate with patients during the picture taking process

I just got hired as an ortho assistant, so your videos help greatly !
You can run the mirror under hot/warm water before inserting to also help prevent fogging
Spectacular 🤝🤝🤝
Thank you for the awesome info 🫶🏻
Love your video ....I always have angle issues, photos look tilted but I am sure your video is going to help me.... thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Ahh I’m going in 3 hours, might be a lil different in Sweden tho. But I’m so exited
Good luck!
Love it! Do you have any videos on elastic wear?
Coming soon!
This is a great video! I'm learning how to take orthodontic pictures and it has been difficult for me. In my class we have been using a mirror for the intra-oral left and right pictures but I am really struggling. Any tips for taking those types of pics with a mirror?
Yes. Don't do it;) We used to use mirrors for left and right and I hated it too.
Why do you wear gloves if there if no direct contact to the mouth?
Do you recommend using an iPhone to take intra oral before and after photos in orthodontics?
Can you tell me what camera are you using??? We have a Nikon at work but not the easiest camera to use. I like yours so much better.
I have only used Canon DSLR cameras for ortho. All their models work well even their old basic models from ten years ago.
Which lens??? Prime or zoom??and what f length??
My dentist didnt take my teeth pic . is that ok??
Can you please share what kind of camera, lens, and flash you use? Or Would you recommend which camera is the best for intraoral & headshots?
I use the standard lens that comes with most cameras. I used to use a macro lens but I didn't like it as much.
Kar 98 for headshots...
Can you do a video on X-rays!
And how to work it on the computer plz😭😭😭😭
My orthodontist only took impression and x-ray, but didn’t take any pictures of my teeth and side profile. Is this fine?
How much did you pay?
@@nandhupopz35 around 1k$

What is the type of Camera You’re using?
Canon Rebel.
What if an orthodontist didn't take pictures at all? She didn't take pictures before not after the removal of my braces. Is that medical malpractice or negligence?
They definitely must’ve forgot
Its a 2 min video
....this guy is making a film in it...
