As a Devils fan, Parise was one of my favorite players growing up. *I will never forget his game-tying goal in the dying seconds of the 2010 Olympics, where he almost jumps over the boards out of excitement.* Always played the game right and wore his heart on his sleeve. Would love to see him return as a coach/GM.
That was an amazing moment! Whenever someone mentions Zach Parise I think of that goal, and that jump against the boards.
He was a better player then at half the cost.
As an islanders fan parise has been an amazing signing for us even if it hasn't gone exactly as planned for him. You know what you're getting every single night with a great work ethic and hustle, even with the scoring falling off and him being snakebitten as well. I'd love to bring him back again next year even if we end up moving him at the deadline, he can plug just about anywhere in the lineup in a pinch.
Yeah, that -14 goal differential is not a problem. Hustle is really what matters.
@@Katie-hb8iq Ma'am this is a Wendy's
Came to say the same thing. In a season that has been tough to watch, at least he plays with heart every night, unlike the majority of the team this season. He was also pretty unlucky the start of the season production wise. Game of inches and he could be around the 10-15 goal mark atm which is good for an entry level contract.
Wouldn't be surprised if he moves to another contention team at the end of the season, even as a depth player
@@Katie-hb8iq That started years ago in Minnesota. I told fans that Parise had horrible WOWY stats, and they said, "But he passes the Eye Test." The writing was on the wall, but they could not read it.
He is an amazing signing? Would he have been at $7 million per season? The Islanders picked up a scrappy player at a rock bottom price.
Not a hockey HOFer, but I can see him getting into the U.S. hockey HOF.
Him and Suter should go in together
I still call him ‘Pah-ree-zay’ out of habit
For What it is worth he has always been a favorite of mine. 400 goals is a great career. He's struggling on LI but so are many people. He's great.
Rooster Here @ Shattuck- Great Job and Just Remember Zach Is A Great Kid!! Follows In His JP'S Footsteps! And Again! You Did A Great Job
Well... I don't think Zach swung his stick at a ref ;)
ROOSTER!!!
Raised and played in Fairbault. His dad worked at Shattuck St Mary's in the hockey program. One of their arenas is named after JP.
Hobey Baker finalist for his Freshman and Sophomore years at UND.
I remember my reaction to that 03 draft well and I remember having a really favorable view of JP Parise's kid. But the Devils picked 17th, so they had no shot at selecting him (I thought). As the draft went on, I kept saying after each pick, "what?" "What!?!" "WHAT?!?" It was bizarre watching team after team opting not to pick him.
Now if I remember correctly, I think he had some kind of injury at the time and that's what scared everyone. I don't think it was due to size at all. Can anyone else confirm?
I just Googled it - during Parise's draft year, he continued to play hockey despite having a knee injury (sprained mcl). For some GMs, I suppose size might have been a concern, too, but I think it was mostly about the knee.
Grew up watching this man in New Jersey and then he signed with my favorite team. Yes the contract didn’t work out in Minnesota, but NO ONE in Wild history had the drive and work ethic Parise had. Thankful to have seen him a few times around town, a great career.
Not even Mikko Koivu?
@@bangyahead1 Koivu has that gene too. Still the face of the franchise in my eyes even with the Kirill show in full throttle
The Pageau Parise Palmieri line has been very effective, id like to see trotz continue using that line
Trotz notoriously breaks up lines that are producing to try to fix lines that are not. What usually ends up happening is no one produces. One reason why the islanders are 31st in goals for.
@@xjpsmithx But the isles haven't been an offense team for several years anyway, and that seem to work out fine since. There is clearly more problem than Trotz breaking up a single line.
@@jkliao6486 theres a major defensive lapse, they traded devon toews and more recently leddy...the hiring of old vets like green and chara to fill the gaps isnt cutting it, but it is helping to develop dobson and aho
@@jkliao6486 Pulock and Pelech, best tandem D pair in the league last year. Trotz - "can't have that. Break them up!"
Top notch content as always. Looking forward to what you have in store for us when Giroux hits 1,000.
you forgot to mention how he's a coach killer
Lol not even close
Last night I was watching the Wild game, & I wore my old Wild t-shirt jersey of Suter. Starting to think that might be a bad luck charm lol. Parise was probably one of the hardest working player out there. When he heats up it's fun to watch! last year in the Vegas series he did an under the legs shot facing the other way, it was magical.
Fabulous jersey.
hall of very good for sure
Parise was quite the player for the USoC in 2010, in that gold medal game, forcing OT.
Welcome to the Avs!!!
Parise tied the 2010 Olympic Gold game with 24 seconds left, giving us the famous Golden Goal from Crosby, assisted by Iginla.
If I remember, his dad died around the time he left NJ, and Suter's had died a year or two prior. Suter was said to have helped him through that tough time.
after they joined the team together for a couple of seasons
It's what anyone would do for a friend.
Parise was my favorite player when I got into hockey in 2015 (at the new year when MN aquired Dubs). Guy has a work ethic that is unmatched, however I feel age, wear and tear has taken a toll on this natural talent. I'll remember him as a the player that got me into hockey! (I'll try to ignore the dead cap, that that will sting).
Parise got me into hockey when I saw my first hockey game in the Vancouver Olympics and he had the game tying goal. Been watching the NHL ever since.
3 weeks ago I would have said the buyout was working out well but the way the Wild have fallen apart lately maybe the locker room problems didn't all leave with Parise and Suter. I always liked how he played. He was one of the few on the team that seemed to work his tail off every night win or lose. Not sure if he'll retire after this season or not. I think he still has value as a player but he's been pretty banged up over the years too.
The only constant in the Minnesota Wild's failures is the state of Minnesota
Buyout Cap Hit
2021/22: $2.37M
2022/23: $6.37M
2023/24: $7.37M
2024/25: $7.37M
Original deal had a cap hit of $7.53 until 2025. So while the savings are only $1.2M next year, and negligible for the following two seasons, they would’ve been paying $7.5M for that period regardless for a player that was declining fast. It’s $0.833M for the four years after which you can stomach.
They open up roster spots and can start a new chapter for the franchise by moving on from Parise + Suter. Having them was pretty close to dead cap as well, and they can use LTIR tricks to get some extra space.
Damn, those numbers are baaad. I didn't realize how fucked the Wild were until this. I thought with Kaprizov coming in the Wild were one good Center trade or draft pick away form being a contender. But with that much dead cap.........yeah thats not happening.
Can’t dismiss the locker room culture change either, I think it was a great call by GM BG
@@The_OvP Is it though? That locker room culture is collapsing as we speak
Yeah, he is one of the reasons why the NHL instituted rules limiting contracts to 8 years if you had rights to the player and 7 years if not. 13 years is a rediculous contract length. Surely the player is going to be washed up by that time, especially if they are already a seven or eight year veteran. The put that rule in to protect GM's from their own stupidity.
@@The_OvP This was my thought on the buyouts. They needed a culture change in the locker room, and I feel it worked. Now if the wild can sustain that environment will be the real factor. I feel Zac was due to performance, and Rayn must have been solely based on team chemistry moving forward.
I admit i could be wrong about this, but Parise still had alot to give! he fights extremely hard in front of the net and along the boards. he didn't fit in with Dean Evason's team, forced to play on the 4th line which probably was the issue in the locker-room. It makes sense that Guerrin moved on, but people are over exaggerating Parise's Decline. Trotz just recently started giving him the chance to play in a role that suits him better
Just out of curiosity have you done a Rick Nash video? Since the jackets recently retired his number
If only that Suter Parise deal could've carried those Minnesota team. Guys like Coyle who should've been much better than they were really held them back.
Obviously not a hall of famer but still a really good career
It's nice that Guerin wants to claim the buyouts were for "the locker room culture", but the timing is...interesting. The kind of interesting that will make most of the internet think the buyouts were because they remembered how Vegas fleeced them in 2017 but still wanted to open a protection for Matt Dumba (and possibly -Erik Sinek- Eriksson Ek -sorry, bad code ~ed.- ). I mean, they could have asked one or both to waive their NMCs just for the expansion draft, but then again, Koivu showed when he scuttled the Parise trade to Long Island that not everyone is willing to do that.
Goal wild
Miss him a bit
His father JP played for the Minnesota north stars
Hey Shannon, do a Joe Pavelski career so far at 400 plus goals
Shannon how you doing man my name is Emily I’m 11 years old I have been watching you now for about 2 you are one of my favorite CZcamsrs I play on a travel hockey team with boys and I am one of 2 girls on the team yesterday we won a tournament also I am crazy rangers fan and my favorite player is Mika zibanejad and my second is Panarin also can you wear the addais rangers home in a video soon
Congrats on tournament win!
@@chocomilkfps1264 thank you man
The former franchise player for NJ. Much like Jumbo Joe, he came close in winning the Cup but will probably end his career without ever doing it unless he signs up with Tampa at league minimum...
Time for a Alex Tanguay career video or Mike Camalleri
I will always think that him and Suter choosing the wild over the red wings turned out badly for both sides. The wings and Ken Holland never recovered from being spurned and parise/Suter won a total of 2 playoff series (not in the same year)
Parise and Suter give me big Benn and Seguin vibes
I still don't understand buying out Suter at the same time. I really don't.
Loved Parise when he was healthy but his buyout made sense.
BG has been a good gm other than the Suter buyout. Anywho
Thanks again man!
Suter is done. He's a pylon. That last high ankle sprain put him over the edge into "too slow to play the game."
@@genericchannel5899 Still better than our current defensemen
Maybe the fact that Suter pretty much sucks these days had a lot to do with it. It's amazing he hits the glass when he misses the net by 20 feet. He chokes the puck up without being pressured. Against Minnesota this week he passed the puck straight to an opposing player who was alone in the slot. Luckily Oettenger bailed him out on that or it would have been 1-0 less than four minutes into the first period, because of his stupidity. For every smart defensive play he makes, he makes two mistakes. Dallas Signing him was a HUGE mistake.
@@FirearmofMutiny Minnesota must have really bad defenseman. He's the worst defenseman on the Stars roster.
@@FirearmofMutiny I would take Brodin, Spurgeon, Dumba, and Goose over Suter at this point in their careers, even though Goose is also showing his age. Kuli and Merril are great as 5/6D, but we've been asking way too much of them while half of our top 4 was out.
I think he plays if he can get with a contender for a chance at a cup. Couldn't foresee him play with a mediocre franchise.
Cross checks to the Back has shortened
His career
the back surgery worked but was never same. Imagine if the refs actually called
Penaltys I've followed Zack since
North Dakota college great career
There's not hockey player in history
That plays The game as hard as Zack
Does
Still don't get why they also bought out Suter who still had more to give unlike (sadly) ZP
I don’t know why we bought out the contracts. Couldn’t he just have been on the 4th line?
From the many reports I have heard, Parise and Suter were toxic in the locker room. They did what they wanted, challenged lines and pairings, and even had the practice facility moved closer to their homes before the Wild began practicing at Xcel arena. Suter often called the owner directly if he was upset with the coach or GM.
@@Too-Odd Too add on to this, there was no way either of those two would move to the fourth line. They saw themselves as the leaders, the best guys on the team. Their production didn't match anything-their position on the team, their pay, their toxicity. I think one of the more subtle things was that they didn't seem to elevate the play of those around them. I look at the synergy now between various players and don't recall seeing anything like that with Parise or Suter in Minnesota. They were islands-talented loners, but loners nonetheless.
It's clear that Guerin was freeing up the room for this year, giving the team two things: room for Kap, Fialla, and Zucc to cook, and room to rotate in some of the young players and seeing what they've got. That second part is important because the cap hit next year means you're losing someone, it's unavoidable, and that was always true with or without the buyout. So getting a chance to regain competitive while gauging your young players and where you need to patch holes is very valuable. Add in some cap jiggery-pokery and the fact that caps tend to rise while the buyout payments will remain static means that the dead cap percentage should lower over time. It's a little counter-intuitive, but I still think the move is bold and clever.
@@c.v.emmans The NHL should have allowed teams to shift contract payments and buyouts into any applicable season, but the owners basically gave Minnesota the kiss of death for those two contracts.
It would have been great to move some of that buyout money to this year to help even it out or to be able to frontload a contract this season to keep a player through those huge dead albatross seasons.
@@c.v.emmans most of those claims of them being cancer were told by evason and guerin. Two guys who have shown they have massive fucking egos.
@@c.v.emmans parise was put on the 4th line his last year and didn't complain at all. Also you are forgetting not only are we paying their cap hits, we are paying other guys to replace them so that adds on even more cap that cost us guys. If we still had suter instead of goligoski we could have kept fiala.
As a devils fan I don't hate the guy, he got in the team too late to be in their golden era, so IMO he also got out of NJ too late. he just went to a better place to raise kids, but worse team to play winning and cup wise. so he made his own bed and I don't think even as veteran rental for cup run he got a chance to get a cup, even as a passenger if NYI trade him. and they are not going to the finals this year.
Not sure about here in NA, but he is nicknamed Captain America back in China.
So he got a 13 year contract and didn't play up to it once
The team around them wasn't the best either. A lot of prospects that just didn't live up to their abilities.
@@JarradBruessel32 that's fair
@@brunellecooper yeah. Like nino, granlund, zucker, coyle and a few others just never lived up to their billing
Whoever was the GM that signed those deals should be sued by the Wild for failing miserably. I’d like to see a video on Fletchers top ten worst deals.
1. Alex Tuch + whatever else for Vegas to choose Erik Haula instead of Matt Dumba
2. Dumba's current deal (probably about $1.5m-$2m too high of AAV and it might cost them Fiala this offseason)
3. Mikko's last two contracts with the Wild
4. The Martin Hanzal trade
5. Cam Barker for Nick Leddy
The Wild would never take Parise back as a coach. Don’t care how many years down the road. He’s an absolutely terrible locker room guy
As claimed by guerin who has a massive fucking ego and is a total asshat.
Who cares flames top line has 192 points in 54 games
