A song about our big blue boy, ranting his heart out about the current state of the imperium after waking up from his eons long nap! The song takes place during the time he visited his father in the golden throne and is pretty much a conversation between the two.
Special thanks to Ethan Song for writing the lyrics for this song!

Sanguinius and Fulgrim were also wishing for peace, so that their sons would become artists and guides (Chemos was a planet full of extremely skilled artisans), although Sanguinius also wished for it to first cure his legion of the gene-taint. Ferrus wanted the peace, so that he could finally stop having the excuse for not removing the living metal from his hands and reaffirm his own strength, as well as getting rid of this whole "flesh is weak" among his legion. Magnus wanted peace to study the Warp, Corvus and Khan wanted it to allow for expanding freedoms of Imperium's subjects, who were forced to sacrifice it during wartime, Lorgar pre-Monarchia wanted it to focus on perfecting his Imperial Cult, etc.
The only ones even remotely against peacetime would be Angron, though to be fair the Butcher's Nail is more to blame here and Curze - who would be forced to realise what a PoS he actually is.

It's not naivety, it's reality. This is what Custodes has become because their creation has too many bottlenecks. Same goes for Astartes. Horus was right in assuming they would become obsolete, but his mistake was comparing his sons to Thunder Warriors instead of Custodes.
Space Marines never numbered more then 2 million in the whole galaxy, always fluctuating between 1 and 2. That was true during both Great Crusade and afterwards. Neither existence of more Primarchs in the past, nor forbidden tech and Chaos support, nor even Cawl were able to push that number up. And that means that you end up with only 1 Astartes per 1 Imperial world. On paper. In reality with how they can't be produced outside a small selection of places and how unreliable and slow FTL is in 40k, Space Marine barely exist in grand scheme of things. Their impact is far lower then most people think and just like other imperial forces heavily reliant on capabilities of imperial navy.
So yes, they would make great administrators and bureacrats due to their enhanced intelligence, perception and lifespan. But war in 40k needs supersoldiers, who can be produced(and more importantly transported) in tens trillions rapidly anywhere, not in hundred thousands once a century. And that means
either widespread adoption of genetic and cybernetic enhancement by PDF forces akin to Alliance soldiers of Mass Effect and Spartan IV program of Halo

imagine waking up several centuries from now and learning every hope and dream you've ever had in the far future has not only been shattered, but replaced by a nightmarish parody of all you stood for. all your loved ones are either long dead or have disappeared from the annals of history, and you will never have the opportunity to embark on a mission to discover their fates because the moment you leave your place of slumber, some trillions of souls are at your feet begging you for your guidance and leadership; the same people, as far as you can see, who are partially responsible for things being as awful as they are. this is Guilliman's fate.
he may not like the disparate peoples of the Imperium, or even be capable of truly appreciating them, but they did not resign to despair when he took his looong grandpa nap. they kept going, picking up the fewer and fewer pieces of their once whole and glorious Imperium, and if a bunch of normies can go on after all the 40K-type suffering they've endured, then so can Guilliman

Their shining golden beacons of peace, prosperity and guidance that were the emperor and his sons just dragged themselves through the mud, several dying in the process, most of them deciding to turn their backs on humanity and join chaos, most of the remainder being so blinded by regret or anger that they set out on frankly impossible quests to either revive big E or drag the chaos primarchs to justice.
Basically only Guilleman still being focused on the imperium until he got KO'd for close to 10 millenia. And what did the average shmoe's of the imperium do? This song amazingly sums up the mental state of Gulliman in current Imperium: searching for meaning of their original Crusade and justification of Emperors plans and secrets, desparing over the current state of humanity, but also determined to do all he is able to in order to hold the broken Imperium together and reforge it into something both functional and actually worth fighting for. A second Ultramar, but stretched over all that's still left of mankind.
And he might be actually the leader Imperium needed. Not, say, the courage of Leman Russ, strategic brilliance of Lion El'Jonson, not unyielding determination of Dorn nor even the kindness of Vulcan. Imperium needs planist, organizer and statesman devoted to mankind more than his own gains and with enough leverage and capabilities to sort out the overgrown administrational mess that is Imperium. Gulliman is exactly that.
Also I love how depressed, angry, tired of all this bulls*it but still determined the vocal souds.

"ANSWER ME!" Shouted Guilliman alerting the Custodes who began to rush towards the gate to restrain him. "WHY DO YOU STILL FIGHT?"
As the guards closed in around him, a piercing light stopped them all dead in their tracks and Roboute Guilliman, lord of Ultramar, received the answer he craved for. Six words were burnt into every fiber of his being. Six words that formed a phrase so trivial, so insignificant, yet it had ensured humanity’s continued existence for ten thousand years amongst an uncaring cosmos.
The words had borne witness to Ferrus charging the traitors on Isstavan and had compelled Sanguinius to face Horus aboard the Vengeful Spirit. They had seen the lowliest guardsman hold the line against unsurmountable odds and were a lesson that Space Marines taught themselves over and over. They were a grim reminder for each man, woman and child of the Imperium of what what was required of them. Fitting then, that the Master of Mankind spoke the same words he expected humanity to live by.

The Ultramarines are hated, criticized due to their plot armour, but those who had been criticizing them and their primarch Guilliman never acknowlegded that The Primarch woke up into a nightmare not even the Primarchs are prepared for. He woke up to see that the Imperium, the empire HE and his brother's helped build become this twisted, bloated, nightmarish version of it's former self. But that's not all, nearly trillions of people immediatelt knelt downl seeing him as their new leader, and upon meeting the Emperor for the first time in millenia after his slumber, he realised he and his brothers are only created as a tool.....a tool for conquest, a tool....for war. You'd think he'd gave up that day, you'd think Guilliman will not handle this heavy burden in his shoulders.....but he did it anyways. Not because of his genrtic loyalty, but his willingness to do what he can to reshape the Imperium back to it's former glory. People criticized the Ultramarines and Guilliman, but they cant deny that.....He, Guilliman had a very heavy burden on his shoulders the moment he woke up after being gravely wounded by Dæmon Prince Fulgrim. None can deny that despite how much this budden had been thrust upon him so quickly upon his return, he still wishes to do what he can to ensure the Human Race can still be saved.....

I can imagine the loyal Primarchs actualy looking down at the Imperium with anger, disapointment, dispair and sadnes. The Empire their father made is practicaly gone, just a shadow of its self at best. Them trying to salvage their father's broken empire with hopping they could reshape it to what could be deemed accaptable by the Emperor. I can imagine the traitor Primarchs that still care for their father would simply wish to tair down the Imperium simply to get rid of the mocherey that is the modern Imperium and to end that madness that would make their father's head spin off like a bowling ball and finnaly put him to rest from his long service to the human race. Honor and Glory to you, Emperor of Mankind, the gratest scholar, gratest master of war, unifier of mankind and the emperor the human race was never worthy to have as their savior and master. Glory and honor to you, my Emperor!

Never worthy? I honestly love humanity and everything they created, thus I still live between walls made by human hands, living a human life and that kind of stuff, but I hate some humans as individuals because of that kind of thing: they always act with such sense of inferiority towards their own species... believing on something bigger than them, maybe just excuses to make their lifes easier, put so much faith on that thing just to forget to put some faith on yourself, put so much faith on it and forget about putting faith on the ones you rely on, put so much faith on it and forget about putting faith on humanity itself, then judge them like you're no part of them, point all their flaws and forget what they achieved, or rather say that everything they have now is thanks to a single one entity, keep on thanking said entity ignoring all the efforts people made to reach such goal... humans who show disregard for humanity... they fill my lungs with hatred.

Thank whatever Gods (except Chaos) that Guilliman is a good man that values peace and prosperity, because he is realizing exactly the same as the Traitor Primarchs did. Except they were told lies to get to that point, or were just straight up terrible people. The main difference here is that unlike the Traitors, Guilliman has the strongest power of them all; Common sense.
He is the reason I love the Ultramarines more than any other legion. There are better fighters than Guilliman. There are better tacticians. But there are none who can match him in a battle of wills. Not a one. No Traitor. No Loyalist. None. He is not led blindly into anything, he is purely doing it out of his own sense of order and structure. He can hold his rage and fury in check and avoid petty vendettas. He cannot be goaded into doing something he would otherwise not with a sound mind. While other Loyalist Primarchs have left their "children", Guilliman remained. I can only hope the Lion wakes soon and joins his brother.

I was there, ten thousand years ago, I was there. You must understand Primarch, time is a fickle thing in the warp, it may sway and heave at the desire of neither gods or men. Though I am but a mortal, barely a fledgling psyker compared to Him, I was flung back ten thousand years to see His will incarnate. The place was that of space and land and time, manifested upon a singular plane. Unlike the Astronomicon it contained no taint of the warp, it was the technological boon of millions of years. This place was the Webway, the gate to Human domination in our galaxy. Everything dedicated by Him to this Webway, was for the absolute benefit of our race. It was there that I was taken, not to partake, but to witness the levity of His will. Countless hordes of Chaos had amassed, broken into, but unable to destroy the Webway. Chaos not as you knew it, not with separate champions or warbands, but true Chaos Undivided. Slaanesh, Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, all of them conjoined to destroy Him. But their hordes were for naught, their power for naught, their strength for naught. Long had passed the time of the Unification Wars, even the Great Crusade was coming to its end, He was at the height of His power. Beyond that, His Legion stood absolute, beyond graspable power. Perfect in everyway, the Custodes marched to war, for the first time ever. The hordes had amassed, bloodthirsty, lusting, deceiving, undying, but with the first stamp forward of the first Custodes of His legion, they all reared back in fear. Their number was but a paltry few compared to the armies you have seen, but they tore across every demons hide like the most holy of war relics. The war raged, but no ground by the forces of Chaos was gained, their entire strength had been unleashed here but nothing had changed. For every Custodes that fell, a hundred demons lay flayed. And when His forces began to lose traction, Primarch, He appeared! His presence sent the most powerful manifestations of evil shrinking back in terror, every swing of His sword relayed the embodied allegiance of humanity, Chaos forces forever destroyed in His wake. To bolster the Custodes, He had brought a new weapon, the Sisters of Silence, they weaved between the lines and cutdown demons with unwarranted ferocity. There was no such thing as rest here, no idea of respite, this was war made manifest. My eyes were blind then, I had seen nothing of this battle, but my soul was open, and the greatest power in the universe was present to show me the truth of reality. But nothing compared to my last few seconds in that time, in that place, before I was snatched back to my own era. When I heard His voice, to this day the words reverberate through me, embolden me, empower me. I was showed the Imperial Truth in all its magnificence. The words He said, they showed me why I was there. "I AM NO SAVIOUR, I AM THE BRINGER OF DEATH. I AM THE SWORD." (The words spoken by the man were bound with power, enough to shake the Primarch to his core, they were not the man's words) You see now, see why my loyalty is unwavering, because there are no gods. There is only Him, all else is lesser. He is but a man, a man that sends so called gods scurrying into the night. He is the sword and shield that protects humanity from the darkness, He is the Emperor of Mankind.
