The Emperor created the Space Marines to be the protectors of humanity. Whether intentionally or not, the Space Wolves protected humans against the Inquisition doing something inhumane to the very humans the Space Marines are intended to protect. Unruly space furries aside, they are a first founding chapter, and they did as they were created. They defended humanity, whether that be the literal humans, or the concept of humanity.

Something that really interests me here is that the Space Wolves didn’t immedately attack the Inquisition, but instead tried to use their ships as shields to protect civilian ships leaving Armageddon, hoping the Inquisition would reconsider. It was only when the battle barge Scramsaex was destroyed by the Inquisition that the Space Wolves gave up on trying to reason with them and start firing back. The Space Wolves, known for being the Emperor’s Executioners, actually bound their savagery in an attempt to deter the Inquisition’s wrath.

But after they saw the dishonesty of the inquisition who fired on an attempt to parley, the inquisition practically asked for their savagery to be unleash on them

To be fair they actually knew too much about Chaos, they were soldiers who had fought against daemonic legions led by a daemon primarch himself. If any menial should die for knowing too much about Chaos it would probably be them. Both sides were in the wrong, the inquisition was too quick to turn on the Space Wolves instead of just humoring them while the Space Wolves overstepped their bounds to protect those who doctrinally should have been purged.

    • @Mr2Helios
      @Mr2Helios Před rokem

@@hawawah8671 I disagree. If they only want to prevent the spread of chaos by killing people who are susceptible to corruption then every inquisitor fresh out of academy should shot kill himself on the spot as he is also susceptible to corruption. Considering that normal inquisitors act erratic and out of their ass then most likely half of them are already corrupted. Inquisition only works because it has support of the imperium. But it only works because imperium is 99.99% humans. If inquisition were to continue doing what they do they would eventually be found out. And once they lose support of the people the Imperium of Man would effectively lose the support of the Imperium of Man. In a world where you can summon a bloodletter from the pool of infants blood FAITH is everything. The inquisition should answer directly to the emperor and sit on their asses unless given orders by some kind of vision in their sleep. Currently they are uncontrollable wild dogs biting their farmers chickens to death.

Just the raw emotion in "backstabber". For those who don't know the wolves were called in to organize an understanding with the Inquisition. When the wolves came close the Inquisition fired on the space wolves ships. Killing all escorts and horribly wounding their main ship. Under armistice the Inquisition fired on the wolves..and understandably...the wolves flew into a rage and the friendly fire and betrayal for up untill that moment..no space wolves had harmed any of the Inquisition forces. This was the turning point. And it's so evident in this moment. Calm..then uncontrollable rage

Commander Shepard the Armageddon survivors numbered in the tens of thousands out of hundreds of billions that is less than a 00.00001 percent survival rate, and were saved specifically because they resisted the taint of chaos. The Space Wolves were specifically designed to kill Astartes even Guilliomen admitted that the average space Wolf was superior in physical capability to Ultramarines. Space Wolves and by extension Fenrisians had been previously established as being extremely resilient to chaotic taint. Out of the millions of Space Wolves that have been deployed only Stvein and I think a handful of his men if that in the entire history of the Wolves turned and Stvein wasn’t turned by chaos until he became disillusioned by the Imperiam. The Space Wolves aren’t just better than everyone else because of plot power, but because of the role that they were supposed to fulfill in the Emperor’s new galactic order. The Wolves also always have large numbers because they use the codex as toilet paper as such they are a legion sized formation not a chapter sized. 40K has a lot of stuff going on in and you need to piece it together in order to have a full grasp otherwise comments like yours occur.

This song is excellent. The back and forth between the Inquisition and the Space Wolves is well done. It truly feels like an argument and the emotions are spot on. While anyone can choose whose actions they'd back, the song paints them both as having a point and, in doing so, gives both groups respect.
The Inquisition starts off calm but resolute. However, there's also an undertone of sadness. They're not doing this just willy-nilly but because they feel it's necessary. Chaos can take root in even the most hardened of individuals, so civilians and ordinary guardsmen are definitely fair game. They're mounting frustration and eventual anger is well conveyed.
The Space Wolves start with disbelief. They can't believe that this is even happening. These people fought with them against their greatest enemy. To simply kill them asks the question of what are they fighting for. Their eventual outrage turning into solemn defiance was a nice touch.
I think you've captured that this wasn't a clear cut issue. It's an area of grey.

No. The inquisition is wrong. How many IG know about chaos and haven't turned despite campaigns against their forces? Kysnaros was a corrupt bloodthirsty fool. He went so far as to go back on his word of simply waiting until his superiors gave a final call, because he knew they would disagree. This song was to vindicate the Wolves and show the hypocrisy of the Inquisition. The Months of Shame are not known as such for the Astartes, to them it was just another righteous battle in the name of the Emperor, their GRANDPA. Yes, priests are literally arguing with angels of their supposed God, who also happen to be the closest things to his blood relatives. a summary of the months of shame:
Space Wolves told the inquisition to not kill off a population, the inquisition tried, and the space wolves got in their way. A "cold war" followed between the wolves and inquisition until the inquisition pretended to want to negotiate an end only to attack the space wolves causing the "cold war" to go HOT.
This ends with the space wolves besting and out maneuvering the inquisitorial forces many times their size even including other chapters fighting for the inquisition. A Truce is made last second with the death of the inquisitor that lead the attack.
While the space wolves gained the upper hand in the fight, the novel does mention it was more of both sides will kill each other kind of deal rather than one emerging victorious which says a TON about a SINGLE CHAPTER and their capabilities vs the Inquisition which called upon the Gray Knights AND OTHER SPACE MARINE CHAPTERS + other inquisitors/inquisitorial forces.

    Breif summary of the months of shame;
Inquisition: kills innocent humans, and guardsman who held the line against the Daemons of hell itself as glorious defenders of humanity.
Space wolves: Protects the Civilian Mass Conveyors and Imperial Navy Ships carrying Imperial Guardsmen that held the line.
Inquisition: Demands a Parlay to talk cessation of hostilities, Attacks the wolves when they (wrongly) believe their guard has been lowered.
    Space Wolves: *C O W A B U N G A I T I S*
Inquisition: Starts taking heavy losses in skirmishes with Wolves defending their targets. Mobilises the entire Red Hunters Astartes chapter, alongside Grey Knights forces and an entire Inquisition battle group to attack Fenris while the vast majority of the Space Wolves are deployed fighting the enemies of the Imperium across the galaxy.
Space Wolves: Wake up Bjorn the Fell Handed so he can say "GET OFF MY LAWN!" to a pompous and borderline heretical Lord Inquisitor Kynaros. Majority of chapter fleet translates to real space in orbit and proceeds to all but wipe out Grey Knights, Inquisition fleets and Red Hunters chapter. Great Wolf Logan Grimnar teleports aboard Inquisition flag ship with his personal Wolf Guard and personally cuts down the Grey Knights guarding the Inquisitor during a sprinting melee charge in terminator armour before blindingly fast slicing the Inquisitor in two. Bjorn the Fell-Handed himself has to teleport aboard the flagship to stay Grimnar's blade and stop the wolves from massacring every single soul in the aggressor fleet in retaliation.
The Inquisition learned to not fuck with the Wolves, or any first founding chapter that day. Their orders are directly from the Emperor himself, and his sons - their Primarchs. The first founding chapters have been purging the enemies of mankind since LONG before the Inquisition existed and will continue to do so as the Inquisition drowns in rampant bureaucracy, narcissism and egotism.

They didn't call the Inquisition participants they said they used that as an excuse to commit crimes against the innocent. Much like your beloved Antifa. All the while the establishment socialists call those standing against such injustice leashless dogs by many other names to hide their guilt. The Imperium was clearly inspired by America and GW had writers who knew how to take it to the extreme. What is scary is that those extremes that are entertaining on paper are now reality. As the Astartes say, only blood can amend this.

Ahh I think I know this songs backstory maybe?
Month of Shame is the time following the first war of Armageddon when the Inquisition wanted to basically kill the original populace off for seeing Chaos. The Wolves fought the Inquisition and the Grey Knights till an agreement was eventually agreed upon.

    • @the_dropbear4392
      @the_dropbear4392 Před 4 lety +218

Yeah the inquisition fired on the guard transports, and the space wolf ships blocked them, taking the damage but not firing back, then the space wolf flagship arrived in the system and the inquisition imminently ceased fire as they were massively outgunned. And lots of guard transports escaped.
The inquisitor in chrage and the grey knights then went around exterminatusing every planet the ships landed on and firing on the ships, but the space wolves kept sending ships to block them but not fire back.
Eventually Lord Inquisitor Kysnaros and Grandmaster Joros agreed to meet with Grimnar to make peace, but when the space wolves arrived in the system they open fired destoying 4 smaller space wolf ships and damaging the flagship which didn't have a shields up, they then told Grimnar to come over and surrender but Grimnar teleported aboard with a full squard of terminator wold guard, and demanded to know who ordered them to fire and when Joros admitted it was him he killed the grey knight grandmaster before he could even fully draw his weapon. The space wolves then tried to teleport back but the grey knights blocked it, so the space wolves slaughtered the knights and they were forced to allow them to escape.
After this the space wolves destroyed any and every grey knight and inquisition ship they came across, no matter what.
Kysnaros gathered a large imperial battlefleet, an entire marine chapter and most of the grey knights plus the grey knight fleet and went to attack Fenris.
They issued an ultimatum that either the space wolves take a penance crusade until they all die or Fenris will be destroyed, they thought the space wolves would accept but they refused. When they arrived at Fenris it was only defended by one damaged cruiser, so the inquisition attacked assuming that the rest of the space wolf fleet had been destroyed earlier in the war.
Then they were surprised by the entire space wolves fleet warping into orbit around Fenris and attacked, the fangs orbital defences then open fired caching the much larger inquisition fleet between the two, many losses were suffered on both sides and several imperial battleships were destroyed crashing down into the fang heavily damaging it, however the wolves fleet gained the upper hand and when the inquisitions flagships shields went down Grimnar and 20 terminators teleported aboard and slaughtered their way though grey knights and stormtroopers until they reached the bridge where Grimnar killed Lord Inquisitor Kysnaros.
Not long after Bjorn teleported down and convinced Grimnar to make peace, which the other inquisitors happily agreed to as they had suffered heavy casualties and they hated Kysnaros.
Many inquisitors who were part of the force thought he had gone far to far and were planning to kill him, several grey knights had come to the same conclusion and were also planning it.
They reason they fought this was they were scared that soon the Space Wolves would be declared traitors and exccomunicated, which they feared would cause a mass astartes rebellion as the other astartes who had something to hide from the inquisition wouldn't stand by and wait for the same to happen to them (blood angels, dark angels) or the chapters that hate the inquisition (black templars) or the ones who are friendly with the wolves (salamanders).
Especaillt since the first founding chapters won't like it if the inquisition decides to get rid of another first founding.

Among all the first founding chapters. There are only 2 known for their kindness towards mortals. Their compassion and their resolute adherence to their creed of protecting humanity.
    The first are the Salamanders.
The second are the Space Wolves.
Even the Ultraboys and Blood Angels will happily throw mortals to the wind. Use them as collateral. They may not be as bad as the Flesh Tearers or Marines Malevolent, but they still view themselves far above mere mortals.
Not so the Salamanders and not so the Space Wolves.
They treat their mortal allies with honour and respect. They treat them as friends and brothers in battle.
During one of the wars for Armageddon, a lone Space wolf drew the hordes of Orks up a mountain. Redirected their entire army by outrunning them for miles. He then made a last stand on the mountain top. Knowing he would die. He fought until he could fight no longer. But his sacrifice had not been in vain. He had drawn the Ork menace away from his mortal allies and allowed them to flank and destroy the green horde.
In his mind, it was a worthy price. One astartes life for the thousands of mortals he saved.

Russ filled with guilt became much wiser, learned how to control himself and finally decided to be his own person instead of mindless executioner, even though due to that he couldn't beat Horus (his only older brother) it did left impact on entire VI legion. Their Leader Logan Grimnar can do something in Terminator armor most PRIMARCHS weren't able to do... run and jump in it!
I’d never seen a warrior sprinting in Terminator warplate. He ran through the fiery mist of a teleportation storm, with no hint of the sluggishness I’d felt on Armageddon. Impossible as it was, I swore I could hear the pounding of his boots, and the screaming whine of protesting servo joints, over the ship falling apart around us. Sparks burst from every racing step he took.
I couldn’t even conceive of the power and rage it would take to force Terminator plate to react against its will like that. I fired at him. Malchadiel fired at him. Our storm bolters crashed and boomed and blasted chunks of ceramite away with no effect at all.
In the middle of his sprint, the grey warrior leapt onto a control console, smashing it beneath his armoured boot, and kicked off with a jump high enough to bring him down on the central command dais. Despite his speed, there was nothing of grace or agility in his movements, merely anger and ferocious strength, pushing his armour’s joints to the absolute limit of the sacred ceramite’s endurance.

This isn't really about protecting innocents as the Space Wolves have committed planetary genocides themselves both in the Great Crusade and in the many thousands of years since. This is because the population of Armageddon earned their respect by choosing to not cower, but to fight against the onslaught of the largest Khornate invasion since the Horus Heresy. As such, their code of honour meant they could not allow a population that had proven its loyalty and valour to be exterminated. Had the population not stood their ground before Angron, but fled before his daemonic horde and legion of World Eaters, the Space Wolves would have had let the Inquisition carry out their actions.

As the civil war continued other members of the inquisition were plotting that inquisitors assassination because he turned a minor issue into a full on civil war. It's this mistake that has defined Russ' character development and repentance, and the instructions he left his legion with- to never harm innocents again. After 10,000 of this atonement they are heroes and perhaps in the end can truly redeem themselves.
It's Magnus and his sons (and you?) who will never cease to be pathetic and abused puppets until you understand there was more going on and embrace forgiveness.
I used to feel that every Space Wolf involved at Prospero should take their own life to redeem their honor, and pass the geneseed to a worthier son, but I've learned more about Leman's efforts to forestall the end and Magnus' additionally prideful intentions/choices. Both are at fault. Here's how Isee it though. If one lies and can't be taken at their word then it makes trust difficult doesn't it? Anything that comes after that is "fallout". Even chaos understands that honesty is important more often then not.
So what does that say of those that create chaos when such lies and will ignorance takes root? This is far far worse then chaos itself. It's the creation of it. The making of it. With good intentions and will ignorance.
Not sure how much of that ties in with starting events with Prospero (I know very little about that), but what I DO know is that those that fear the worst and act out of such fear are creating what they fear. The moment one is too afraid is the moment one has proven weakness.
For context when I face volatile situation that involve life and death in my real life I do it without fear. I do not "fear the worst". I make it about honesty and defuse the situation. Even if it means stomping on fragile feelings.
The inquisition spent too long remaining unchallenged. Got too comfortable. So when the space wolves bit back it was not a blow they were prepared for. Whatever side of the fence you're on, be it the emperor or chaos, such weakness and inability will only lead to ruin. Why, chaos may even be allowing the inquistion to remain in power in that light. If you're so busy turning on each other then surely it benefits them. Makes it more likely for people to turn to the demon the know as well.
