  • This game soundtrack will be made using various 8 bit computers and game consoles from the late 70s to early 80s as well as other analog drum machines and synths from the time period. I made this song with a 606 drum machine and a Commodore 64 running Cynthcart. Reason being I have so many chip synths I have put together over my years game/computer collecting yet I haven't used them in any major capacity apart from sound experiments here and there. Making the soundtrack like this will make it difficult for my style to be copied without the use of the original hardware I used, which I hope it sparks interest in others to get into 8 bit computing.
To me retro computing is far more fun than retro gaming since there's more of an emphasis on simply using the computer as it is today than being stuck in whatever time period it was built in. It's more expensive to get into but as such, nobody blames you for not having the original mouse, or monitor it came with. It's more DIY in that aspect and as such there's still support for many of these machines. Hell, on my C64 I use a Sega Genesis controller as a mouse and F5 to left click.
On the other hand, retro gaming the past few years has been heavily commercialized and treated as an investment by people who don't understand it. So much value is placed on whether a game is rare or obscure, but not if the game in question is actually fun to play, which is the whole point of the hobby. I noticed at game conventions I would have more fun with the random $15 games I'd find in bargain bins than the rare, overpriced game that's rare for a reason. Besides, what's the point of paying a fortune for what may or may not be a counterfeit when the ROM on the real and fake cartridges are the same and can be found for free?
