If every character gets their own theme, your game will become a musical. I for one, would love the best fighting game ever made to be a musical too.
Agreed... A Killer Instinct musical would be epic.
I find it charming and appropriate that this be the only character who has his own song. A simple shepherd lionized by his fellow peasants for being able to contend with highly trained fighters with fine weapons of higher social caste.
Father zera has his own song too
@@Aerostarm And Marta.

I love this so much. The fact that the song is actually about him just adds so much charm.

Considering how the peoples of the Carpathians in that era romanticized the robbers in their songs, seeing them as common folk heroes and defenders - this is so "in lore" that there are no words...
I feel like this guy having a song about him makes him feel like a local legend. Definitely adds to the charm and feel of the game.
😊
As a matter of fact, the character of Yendrek is based off local legend, that of Juraj Jánošík, the Slovakian version of Robin Hood, whose signature weapon was the shepherd’s ax (much as as RH’s was the longbow)
I want there to be a mod where there's just a squad of musicians in the background of fights, following the local legend around and playing his theme every time he kicks in a door and draws his ax.
@@kentonbaird1723 ….and if he dies, they all just drop their instruments and run away.
@@garcalej glorious! Is there a modder in the houses!?!
It's so refreshing to see people who actually like the games they're making.
This feel unfair, the other characters need their own theme songs 😅
Anyway, this song is just epic for a youthful Carpathian shepherd
😊
I agree, although some do have their own theme. Father Zara and Marta do, and Marie's seem to has her own as well
@@vaninhhuu3215 I know, but they don’t have any lyrics on them
Though Fr. Zera do, but it’s not about him I guess, just the usual Latin prayers
*Stepan Bandera intensifies*
@@user-pv6fy3ft5z lol, Stepan Bandera is from a different time period and most likely didn’t duel a bloke with a sabre.
this game whole general concept is great ! Also is quite refreshing to see something rooted in history/folk traditions rather than the usual fantasy game stuff. Great

It really isnt. Only the games are very Slavic. The books are based on Grimms Tales (German), French folklore (Beauty and the Beast), Japanese folk tales (Kitsune), Arthurian Myth...

That's what I thought, Janosik a hero of the borderland of Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Robin Hood of the Slavs. The robber and benefactor fought with the nobility who oppressed the highlanders, the perfect character for a decent series. One that would be realized by three nations together.
The Carpathians are great and beautiful and many nations live in them, in Janosik's band there would be a place for everyone ;-)
Shame a lot of historical records describe Jánošík as a two bit bandit who was only hunted down after he murdered a priest and got everyone mad
@@giantotter319Historical records are very biased towards the Hungarian aristocracy. As Urszula Janicka-Krzywda said, I doubt there would be such a positive view and so many oral stories (which often show a different perspective/story than what documents say) about zbojniks if they were truly just robbers.
@@etnogor The oral stories also connect Jánošík and Jakub Surovec, who was born two years after Jánošík's death. If there is any bias, it's in the oral tradition, which was created a century after anyone who got in contact with them already died. This was done to create some myth about resistance against hungarians, since it was trendy at the time.
@@giantotter319 That was the literary tradition about him. Why would Gorals in Poland honour him?

Original lyrics in Polish highlander dialect:
Hej Jendrek wojuje, siabli łun nie nosi.
Hej Jendrek wojuje, siabli łun nie nosi.
Ciupazkom zakrzese jaz do samyk kości.
Jendrek dobry juhas, krzese tego złego.
Jendrek dobry juhas, krzese tego złego.
Zbryka ciupazeckom jaz do upadłego!
Translation:
Hey Yendrek is fighting, he bears no sabre.
Hey Yendrek is fighting, he bears no sabre.
He will chop with axe, to the bare bones.
Yendrek is a good shepherd boy, he chops the evil guy.
Yendrek is a good shepherd boy, he chops the evil guy.
He will bash with axe until he falls dead!
Short cultural background:
Sabre holds a special place in Polish culture, it is seen as a very elegant and prestigious weapon. Kinda like katana for the Japanese.
"Yendrek bears no sabre" may indicate that he is a poor lowborn or even a bandit.
Ciupaga is a traditional tool used in Polish highlands, it comes in a form of an axe with a really long handle. It can be used as a working tool, a walking stick and a self-defense weapon.
I decided to translate it simply as "axe", but personally I don't think it should be translated at all.
The translation is mine + I don't really speak Polish highlander, i wrote the lirics down as i hear them so there may be some mistakes
The video creator translates it to "Fokos" which is the hungarian word for the weapon. In etimology it just means "Pointed end" or "thrusting tool" Because it's not just an axe but has the pointed end to make it a more versitaile tool.
Fun fact "Juhász" Shepperd is the same word in hungarian since we got so much slavic influence in our language. :)

I see a renaissance of interest in Carpathian culture in many countries of the region which I find really fascinating. Also I love the use of the archetype of a shepard, plantation worker, Fisherman facing the evil as a mathaphore of their rough, hard working lives. Its very Universal theme all around the globe. Reminds me very much of a Columbian folk song "Pelea con el diablo" performer by Octavio Mesa
I'm just glad that Central Europeans finally started being proud of their own heritage, respecting the others', and looking at each other as brothers!
Carpathian Mountains are like repository of old culture for multiple nations adjacent to them. No wonder that fascination of this region and mountain folk culture re-occurs.
A fitting song for a hero.
