@@garthodowd6846 we hate teams that are direct so I tend to dread playing Moyes’ teams in general 😂 outside of Bowen and Pacqueta I weirdly worry about Soucek. Think we struggle against his type and he’s got a good record against us. Selfishly hope Kudus is definitely out as he’s a handful.

No Alvarez means a weak, slow, immobile central midfield which will get overrun completely by Newcastle. I worry about our next 3 games without El Machin. We are toothless in midfield without him. Fulham away is a prime example of how vulnerable we are without him. This will be a 3-1 or 4-1 win to Newcastle unfortunately

Hiya lads. Make Geo right when he says we have no natural replacement for Alvarez BUT we bloody would have if Phillips actually did what it said on the tin. He should be and arguably is a like for like replacement for Alcarez on paper but he looks a shadow of the player i thought we were getting. I agree with your team selection with the exception of Zouma as i would play Aguerd instead. Disclaimer though is i am still hanging on to the fading hope that Aguerd will come good and put in the performances i truly believe he has in his locker.
Just a comment about our youth players. From multiple sources i read and hear, we have some of the very best under 23's, 21's and 18's in the country and POSSIBLY in Europe. It is therefore an ongoing disgrace that Moyes has ignored them so badly. This is made even more stark by Jurgen Klopps superb use of his youngsters. He throws his youth on in cup finals (Carabao) yet ours dont even get 5 mins in a league game even if we were 3-0 up. It's one of my main gripes with Moyes and one i simply won't let go. If Klopp can do it then why can't we? Simply no excuse.
This is a terrific post Nick. Well thought out brother. We have all this potential at the club but Moyes is happy just to ignore them all and to waste a fortune on players like Phillips and, if he can, Maguire. Just look at the amount of time he spent chasing Lingard who just led Moyes a merry dance. Because of FFP and P&S rules we cannot keep spending big bucks every year. We must look for a realistic path into the first team for other youth players. If only for this reason alone Moyes must be shown the door

It's true one of Moyes worst attributes apart from all the other ones is his lack of vision when it comes to our own youngsters . They never get a look in & end up farmed out on loan or disappear entirely it's just such a waste of talent.
Time for Phillips to earn his corn and show us the player we know he can be. He has 3 games to do it
Such a fascinating contest one manager always like to play progressively and always in the front foot attack attack and other is defensive passive and rely on the counter attack.
I agree we don't have many options in midfield now alvarez is out but I would be tempted to play Ben Johnson along side Philips. When he as come on and played in midfield Johnson as not let us down
Phillips reminds me of Wilshire; so much promise at the start of his career, including some excellent England performances, but pretty much finished by the time he came to us. I'd fancy Johnson or Aguerd in that Alvarez role but we all know its going to be Calamity Calvin.
The competition between Paqueta and Bruno G wil be interesting though.
I would try Aguerd in Alvarez position but i think Johnson will be given a go
Moyes will want to keep the 4 point gap ahead of Newcastle so he will play for a nil all draw so it may help us if they score early and we have to attack. I can see a high score and maybe a 3 to 2 win. Please.

Geo, spot on re. youngsters. If Orford or Earthy was given a chance in previous games (Burnley, 2nd half vs Frieburg) we could see if they were ready. All other teams aren't afraid and their youth teams aren't as good as ours. Sorry for banging on about this, just does my head in.

How about Ben Johnson in centre-midfield? He's looked OK when given the chance there.
Do you think Aguerd could have been turned into a CDM backup to Alvarez?Accepting there’s a huge learning curve to switch positions and his biggest issue in his specialty is his positioning, he does have attributes that suit the CDM. Quick fro his size, pace, good tackler, good passer of the ball both long and short. He has a terrible hospital ball in him, but maybe those would be less dangerous further up the pitch. Could this have been an option?
Kehrer certainly could but Moyes alienated him like he has with so many others. Fornals, Benrahma, Johnson, Cornet, Ings. The list goes on
What about playing Ben Johnson at DM in Alvarez’s place? I know he’s more of a fullback, but given his pace and ability to play in the midfield this season, he may not be a bad shout. It would be a risk, but Phillips has been a risk every time he’s been on the pitch
Johnson and Aguerd would be an interesting band aid to patch that midfield
Unfortunately he has to play Phillips with Soucek. Apart from the occasional good corner or free kick I can’t honestly see what Ward Prowse brings to the team. I thought he was a good buy last summer but it has not worked out. I can’t see us getting much out of this match but would grab a point with both hands.⚒
I’d argue it has worked out, I think his goals and assists have contributed massively. Whilst I wouldn’t play him either and would happily see him move on in the summer, I think he’s given us a decent return and I ain’t his biggest fan
Their game in hand is against Manure . Who we are chasing a draw may work out better at this moment in time but may change by the time game is played
Was thinking Ben Johnson into midfield but it’s hope rather than belief…Can’t see anything other than Philips for Alvarez. He has to come good eventually. Give him a chance and wipe the slate clean on his poor start. Looking at it positively if he plays to his potential we have an ideal replacement who could see us into Europe and overcome Leverkusen.

Great chance for West Ham with Botman and Miley out, and Newcastle really needing to win to have a realistic chance of a European place next season. This game will tell us a lot about how the last 10 games will pan out for both sides. Most Newcastle fans probably think our chances went with Botman's ankle, but a win could lift all our spirits.
Moyes would be the ideal manager to deliver cup success in europe for the barcodes. He can take Soucek with him and I'd be happy to see Howe come to the hammers for domestic cup success for us with attacking football being played too.
We should get at least a point with the players they have missing really. Big opportunity for Phillips. Time for him to start delivering.

Lads Moyes has to play Philips we need to know where we are with him this is he’s best opportunity to show what he has he won’t be replaced if he shows up in the first half and this could determine wether he stays end of season he has 2 possibly 3 games… also Moyes would love to show us he made the right decision

You're Spot on, you can't bring something like FFP in when you've already allowed teams to splash £1b on players unchecked, its mental. Its only been brought in to stop any upstarts challenging the 'Top 6' aka Skys Darlings.
We have to start playing Phillips, we really need him to get back to his form at Leeds as he’s gonna have to play against Leverkusen. I think Aguerd deserves another chance as he has the biggest potential to be our best CB due to his pace

My eleven would be Areola- Coufal, Mavropanos, Zouma, Emerson- Soucek, Aguerd- Kudus, Paqueta, Bowen- Antonio/ Ings in a 4-2-3-1. I truly believe that Aguerd could do a good job as a holding midfielder and it would suite his ability to move forward with the ball. I can’t see us win this 3-1 Newcastle.

We've had a dozen opportunities to give minutes to an Orford for example ,We've had several opportunities to give full games too. But we have the problem off Moyes. This is once again a product of him not using the youth

It wouldn’t be the end of world but also depends on how we get them, 3 draws is better than 1 win and 2 defeats as it means preventing 2 of our league ‘rivals’ from getting wins and keeping them below us

Crafty west ham and sullivan. The renewal of season tickets is out there and the deadline to renew is before knowing whether moyes gets a new contract. Many wont renew if he does. Crafty and sly from my club. They are getting worse.
In fairness, it’s always early June, the renewal date is ‘normal’ but appreciate it’s frustrating for anyone who’s depending on the manager staying/going

When you are as physical ,,,,over the top, physical like Newcastle, you expect to have a lot of injuries,, every injury they bring on themselves,

@@HammersChat I agree Newcastle have been hit hard but we started the season with are hole left side last season out, lost buendia the eve of the season & mings 45 minutes into the season so I think we've had it just as bad, if not worse, I personally think it's down to the players playing none stop for 3 years straight with no summer breaks is the reason it's been so bad!
