Danger Walk Blackpool

- I take you on a tour of Blackpool's Middle Walk. This is a section of Blackpool Promenade between the Metropole Hotel and Gynn Square, which has become rather rundown & seedy in the past several decades. Constructed in 1926 with a grand colonnade structure along it's whole length, it was once a popular spot for couples & families to walk in a more debate location than the bustling Golden Mile.
These days Middle Walk, although still a great place to walk or ride a bike & watch the amazing Blackpool sunsets, has a rather bad name, especially owing to the dodgy after hours activities that some of the more modern generation get up to.

Stephen, we get the message, don’t risk it my friend. Great informative vid.😀
Thank you for showing the middle walk colonnades. It was wonderful to see the ‘beach patrol’ centre again where I was a volunteer ‘lifeguard,’ back in the 1960s.
The glassed in part of the colonnades usually smells so strong of pee it brings tears to your eyes.
Oh my goodness Stephen, my heart is in my mouth, it's too risky and scarey. Please be very careful and be safe. 🙏😗
That intro was amazing. So atmospheric, Miami Vice like. Well done fella.
Hi Steven sunset was brilliant. Views get me everytime I wouldn't go down there you should take care Steven...òh Steven don't be brave ..stay safe . Great as usual 👌👍👍♥️
I agree 👍
Thanks pal.
Stephen your photography is out of this world, pure genius
I agree fab
Dedication and knowledgeable, been a starman helps alot id imagine.
Thank you very good . Always wondered where the Gynn wall was . Now i know..
Wow your brave Stephen I wouldn't dare go down there at night not on my own , very interesting though 🤔
Derby Baths 😍 I learned to swim there, remember the tomato soup they used to sell x couldn't beat it after an afternoon swimming x
I come to Blackpool every year for two weeks and didn't know about the 'interesting' events that happen there! To think 30 years ago my family used to take me on walks along Middle Walk - at least that was during the daylight hours! Great video as always.
I would nt walk there by myself.. Your brave
Such a great video Stephen, looking forward to the next!
This is a scary one what a scary place……I liked the lightening bit….but the rest is scary. I liked the Great Western Train Tram.
Your a braver man than me Stephen 👍👏
Great video Stephen please stay safe.
Awesome video, I remember walking down there in the day time and it was dodgy, can't wait for your late night video, be careful
What a fantastic sunset Stephen. Great video I loved it Thankyou for sharing 😊👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this. You are fearless filming down there at night but it's great. And I had to pause through the drone bits too and just look a bit longer. Amazing views. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Your surname’s quite appropriate for a stroll along ‘middle walk’….😮
@@rainwater8135 whatever
Gives new meaning to George Formby's Blackpool Rock😂
Brave !
Awesome video Stephen. The sunset was amazing. Walking down there at night you are a brave man to do that .😂

Cheers bud, keep up the good work.we love Blackpool from Newcastle cheers
Another interesting video stephen nicejob!!
Never had a problem along there, walked the dog along it 100's of times at night right through to 3 - 4 am, its normally compeltely empty. Normally on the road though.
"walked the dog" is that a euphemism 🐶😂
Fantastic video and wonderfully edited, your getting a lot better at this.
Ta pal.
I wouldn't go down there on my own at night braver man than me Stephen stay safe
loved that opening, you're really doing well with those.
I bet that area of Blackpool was absolutely stunning back in the day, when people had respect for themselves and others, total different environment now, anyway hope you take care of yourself, catch up next time 👍😁🙏
I remember doing this walk as a kid
It’s not only the tent that’s been blown off on middle walk 😂
Very interesting thankyou
Brilliant video 👍🏻
Enjoying the darker history of blackpool good warning to the curious
We come to Blackpool every year we am coming December just before Christmas eve
I absolutely loved that Stephen. Filming the approach and entrance to the colannade in black and white added to the drama, and the beautiful sunset was a perfect contrast. It really set the scene, showing the dark side of Middle Walk after the sun goes down. You are such a good story teller Stephen, the subtle peppering of your wonderful sense of humour made for an exceptional video. I didn't want it to finish xx
Thanks Wendy x.
🦸♂️❤ Your So Brave Stephen Another Awesome Video 😍👍Take Care If You Do Venture There After Midnight !!!
Kelly
Great video , I like to see the dark & spooky side of Blackpool , but glad you were not hurt in any way making this , looking forward to more videos x
Really interesting.
I won't walk here on a night on my own when I'm in Blackpool next lol
Have such fond memories of Blackpool, though I didn't know the dark side to it, I walked alone around 2am now I'm not surprised my mum was angry at me😂
yeah unfortunately me and fam witnessed a stabbing behind coral island many years ago
Absolutely stunning sun set please be careful when on middle work at night not a safe place to be
I'm going up to Blackpool for 4 days by myself in 2 weeks. Thanks for the heads up
Thank you for a wonderful atmospheric video again Stephen. I enjoyed the pictures of the well-dressed crowds in the 1920s.
Brave man. Up there last weekend. Not that area but some dodgey folks around.
I always thought the guy on the avatar pic was you. It's quite haunting and classy.
Your videos are always really interesting & you tell us everything we need to know. Please take care Stephen if you do make an after midnight video down there. You're a lovely person xxx😊 and don't want you to put yourself in any danger xxx
Thank you Catwoman.
I agree be careful stephen
Very interesting video Steve, thank you. Hope you didn't take the risk and went down after midnight. Xxx
I thought you walking down there in the dark was risky. Please don't go at 2am (not alone anyway).
However enjoyed your talk about how things have changed over the years. It was lovely seeing Blackpool at night. Not many out there brave like you Stephen to walk about filming.
Take care Stephen.
Thanks Clara.
💯👌
Your taking a chance lol 😆 take care 🙂get ready to leg it 😛
Hi Stephen what a scary place at night ,please be careful don’t sacrifice for your art .but well done 👍,great job as always ,thaninsite.
I was in Blackpool tonight at the Grand and so hoped I’d see you
I was by the Pleasure Beach.
I had no idea of those lower levels on the sea front
Alas Spitfires lit up
You was brave.i definitely wouldn't have gone down there.you keep safe
Too scary that don't like the street's at night 😕
@@cliffcook3993 haha I just don't go out at night so not really a problem and yes I agree with what you said, beware at Halloween lol 🙏
@@cliffcook3993 me with my cats 🙏
Loved the informative video Stephen, but find it a sad fact that the Middle Walk has gone from a special place to a target for graffiti and more seedy activities. I still remember the Blackpool of the 1970s and feeling safe in the town day or night.
I used to go fishing and the pleasure beach 70/80's. It's changed a lot since then. BUT then again so as the world!
your very brave!!
Didn't they have a swimming baths here where the Grand Hotel is now 2:30 ? I seem to remember it from years ago.
Yes, the Derby Baths czcams.com/video/AjbePWvlit0/video.html
One brave Stephen x
Thank you Arista.
Hope everything goes OK
Hey Stephen, quick question? What Drone do you use? :)
Hi Harvey. I shot this with an ageing Mavic Pro, though I've recently purchased a new DJI Mini 2 which I will be using for future videos.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Great; thanks! I’ve started photography myself but I’d like to go into more of a drone photographer so I was just wondering. Thank you.
@@hrvy_tmp8841 I'd recommend the DJI Mavic 2 Pro if you want a drone specifically for photography. The cheaper ones, such as my Mini, are great for video and potshot photography, but they do not have a user adjustable aperture control. I got this mainly for video on the go.
I've rode my Raleigh Grifter along there a few times. Can't wait for a midnight tour of Grange Park. Now that would be interesting :-)
Bloody hell the Grifter I had the blue one back in 81 they were very heavy bikes and very expensive as my mum kept telling me often the ultimate dirt push bike but they were too heavy to do many stunts with nice to ride on smooth flat road used to feel like you were gliding with those big chunky tyres aahh great memories cheers 😁👍
Going way back to the 1950s Stephen growing up in North shore ,the middle walk was a great place for us local children to rollar skate. That was during the day I hasten to add but even then the seating area smelt like a toilet. Dosnt look like it has seen a paint brush since then. Please take a couple of big chaps with you if you are going down there to film late at night.😱😲
Taking a big chap down there would get him in even more trouble lol
@@mickd6942 😮😉
Another very interesting video many thanks for sharing. Do you know why the site of the Derby baths has never been built on?
Thanks John. There was a clause put in place after the baths came down that restricted anything being built there. Not sure how long it was for, but it's more than 30 years now with nothing.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Many thanks for that. I remember the Derby baths was often on tele in the late fifties early 60's with national and international swimming and diving events.
What camera or phone do you use? the clarity is great
Thanks. I mainly use a DJI Oslo Pocket, but sometimes use my iPhone 12 Pro.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool thanks i am highly impressed by it's clarity and smoothness
I used to work down Central Drive that was scary too. Anything for a fiver !
wow fab video i have been to blackpool a few times to see the lights never knew this existed , thanx for sharing x
Its all of UK its called build back better and we will LIKE IT MY ARSE.
I thank you for showing us the REAL Blackpool, both good and bad. If you do go back after midnight, don't go on your own. Have back up in case things get nasty. I'd hate for you to get injured or worse, or to have your expensive equipment damaged or stolen. Otherwise, it's a very interesting video. These kind of videos keep me gripped from beginning to end, maybe it's a mixture of the compelling knowledge and information you share, but mostly it's the hope you make it to the end unharmed (I think it's more the latter!). Thanks for another brilliant video. Think on though, keep safe!!
Tony will be OK, he's a black belt in origami
@@paulhedges4778 Tony? His name is Stephen?!

Excellent stream Stephen
Looks a lovely walk in the daytime, not too sure about the night though.
Thank you for showing us.
Be careful Stephen just in case
Stay safe
Look forward to your next stream
Best wishes
Lee
👍🏻😁
Your a brave man Steve 😑👏
Great video Steve, Nigel and myself went down on middle walk one early morning , well we both was in for one big shock, what was going on in one part was unbelievable there was plenty of cherry being popped if you know what I mean, but Nigel got nervous so we had to leave, well Steve you be careful down there, catch up with you on the next one...... Dave
Wowsers David. I'm going to do a video down there in the next month or two. It doesn't get dark enough at the moment.
Fantastic video Stephen but please don't be brave enough to do another video down there in the wee small hours as it was i worried for you, don't take any risks .
I was walking the dogs on south prom and they were beeping horns all the way along, seems to be a new craze this year. Middle walk has fantastic views over the Lake District, all they need is more police patrols through the night and lights in the shelters to clean it up but it’s not where I would go at night and you need to be careful …..
They should list them really they are so lovely x
You know, there is something still magical about Blackpool when you've got memories of it, I know it's destroyed especially around the rear streets but that place could be re created but it needs massive funding, but we all know with the will it would pay itself off, seems everything is being destroyed by design. Areas in key places have geographical advantage and Blackpool has that, that's why it was so amazing 50 plus yrs ago, but as I said, destroyed by design, like the last minute ditch of the gambling city, people were excited as it was to be known as the Las Vegas of the U.K. As usual, pulled. Good someone is doing what you do.
You are a brave man!!!
I misread the way you said Gynn Square and thought you said Gimp Square hehe hope you are well buddy.
I swear everywhere in Blackpool all the rough places have such nice names
Like most seaside towns that have gone downhill, not many places are family friendly after dark.. it happens in Brighton too just have more upmarket clientele!
Upmarket in Brighton?Do me a favour.
There are many homeless people in Brighton. Take a walk from the train station straight down to the beach area and at 10pm you find many doorways filled with unfortunate homeless individuals and beggars. The whole country has this problem. The accent makes no difference.
That tent’s not the only thing that gets ‘blown off’ on Middle Walk, no doubt. Watch yourself down there Steven.
Don’t say “blown off” too loudly Stephen 😂
oh Stephen...please don't go down there again... so late at night.... it's very dangerous. and yes it stinks, we will never have a stroll down there again and that was in daylight.
The wife and I spent a couple of nights in a hotel near Gynn Square earlier this year, had a pleasant walk along the front, but didn't know the darker side to it
Quite nice down there in the daytime but wouldn't go down there at night.!
Haha do it id love to see what goes on down there after midnight 😅
Perhaps you can tell us some of those stories on a ';round the camp fire evening' Stephen ..
Thank you. Enjoyed your video. Very interesting But wish you could take some one with as Back up. No way would I walk alone along there at that tome of night. Thanks again. But please Take care and Stay safe. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Stephen thank you for your amazing video you are so brave its such a shame that its used like it is be great if it was restored to its former glory take care xx
Thanks Wendy.
