- I take you on an evening walk along Lytham Road in Blackpool, starting at the southern end next to the entrance of Blackpool Airport. As the walk progresses north towards Manchester Square, the road changes from upmarket & tree lined to more downmarket and deprived.

As a small child, we always went to Blackpool for our holidays. I remember Lytham Road very well as we used to get the tram to the airport end where they terminated. The tram lines carried on along Squires Gate Lane to Starr Gate but I never remember seeing trams go that way. They always returned back the way they came back towards Manchester Square.
I’m addicted to these videos.
Blackpool should embrace its brilliant Art Deco architecture more , some of the houses even the small ones are so beautifully built and if the original features are retained they are exceptional
Blackpool is a gem of a town. I still love my holiday there. The only downside - a lack of trees.
Not been out of town centre much? Lots of trees and especially Stanley Park.
You,re more entertaining than most of the stuff on TV..you should have your own show
Thank you, Stephen. So glad to see that what was the BLESMA home, is still being used as a care home.
Trees😮beautiful clouds. I’ve spent a week at Blackpool once, I’ve only been in the Tower Ballroom never any further up the Tower….I love the Tower Xxxx I love the trams
Well done on getting 33k loyal viewers Stephen. Nice video another great walkabout
Thanks kkrispy.
Thanks for the video Stephen that’s the Road l go into Blackpool past Blackpool airport brings you to the front not far from the Tram Station.
love the way you say buu-lackk-poool keep up the great work!
I was in the Dunes with my Farther in May 2018 nice pub it was to be his last holiday before he died.He loved Blackpool.
Great video I have driven down that road but never noticed all the big houses at the start of your video what a contrast from one end too the other. Thanks for sharing very interesting I'm getting to know Blackpool quite well with watching your video's always something new to see brilliant. Keep up the great work.
Hiya Stephen! The big fancy house which you refer to on the corner of Broadway was used as a spiritualist church back in 2010 and a bit further up on the same side of the rd as the spiritualist church, heading towards Watson road was a small cut which leads to a quiet courtyard with some garages there and opposite the garages, were two flats. I had a little 'business' goin on at one of these flats, from the end of 2001 to the summer of 2004. xxxxx
Thanks Twinkle xx
Gday Steven, I enjoy your videos and your views on the area😀👍
Hi Steve. Wow what another excellent video showing the good - bad - ugly side of lytham road , it’s one hell of a very long road showing a contrast of property from superior quality at the start to poor at the end, the council must be getting an enormous amount of money from the quality property in a form of rates why don’t they invest some of it on the declined property to make it more desirable area.
Thankyou most brill
That is one amazing st. Talk about the have and have nots! Cheers from Oz🇦🇺🇬🇧
Hi Stephen, The Gavel used to be a Wetherspoons called The Auctioneer, but they had to sell it when they opened the Velvet Coaster. It traded as The Gavel for a bit then closed down.
Not been around that part in a long time 🤔
Have a good weekend 👍
Thank you 😊
The Grand was a pub, the Casino that burned down (The Tiberius) was basically behind or next to the Grand depending on where you stand. The Tiberius used to serve some great breakfasts, used to go in there after a night out in Blackpool until about about 3/4 am. lol quite some time ago now. I also can't believe you have never been in the Dunes, it was very popular at one time and served one of the best pints of Boddingtons in Blackpool. Also the Burlington was called the Winmareth prior to it being renamed to the Burlington.
We used to stay at guesthouses in the 1990s when we came mon to Fri for lights on Lonsdale road I also stayed at the dun roamin in 2008
Loved this ,Interesting to see the affluent side of Blackpool in contrast to more deprived areas /@Man Shed makes some good points but councils have always had 'dumping grounds ' for 'problem people'.You would think by now they would have worked out a new approach .Blackpool has so much to offer though and is one of my favourite places because of it's character.
Thanks.
A fantastic super sized video on Lytham Road! Plenty of trees on the residential side, but as you come over the bridge on Lytham Road into the business side, the trees disappear. Still, there are worse places to be. Thanks for sharing Stephen!
Central Drive next lol
Brilliant Vlog those large houses must have some history love you vlogs
AND some energy bills !!!
Good video tonight can't wait for weekends videos and next week I love the new videos
Taskers Supermarket Food was in Burnley .Taskers Furniture was in Accrington.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always them houses looked amazing its such a contrast from one end to the other such a shame the tower looks fantastic take care xx
Thanks Wendy 🙏
*Great Video, I remember back in 1987/88 and 1989 staying at the Marina Hotel which was roughly 2 doors along from the Cannabis growing building opposite the Manchester Pub at the end of your walk and the area was BUZZING, it was literally the exact opposite of today, the bus station meant a large number of people always around with Lytham Road being the main area for us to hang around (rather than today where the town centre is the main destination) it had everything, little cafes, market stalls, Taskers of course, and plenty of pubs, good times but also very very sad to see the current state of the area, I was down 2 weeks ago for a long weekend and stayed on Station Road...And I have just googled your walk distance and they say 2.4 miles (Manchester Pub to Blackpool Airport)*
Next to Durham House ?
That Indian restaurant you passed (Taj Mahal) is actually quite good. We go once or twice during our stay. Sad to see Blackpool like this, come every year at some point and each time it gets worse. It's such a shame as it doesn't need to be that bad , no excuse for just dumping your crap.
Hope you had nice walk 😊
Stephen interesting your brave walking down there .Dickson rd is scary at night I didn’t like it one bit .
I've enjoyed living and socialising on both sides of the rail bridge.
Hi great video as always looking forward to your next one
Best regards to you
Enjoying the walk through Lytham Road, Stephen.

Great vid Stephen thank you.👍
Been going that road for years in past. Always looked run down place. That pub was open last time i was there, you seen them in bar, open door on street. Blackpool still good place to come, but many places need torn down.
Thanks Stephen.. I think there's one of the big houses at the southern end where Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy stayed the night once, think it was when they did a theatre tour of the UK sometime in the 50's..
Ok thanks.
A fantastic video I was glued from start to finish the difference for start to finish is well ! what can I say yea rough is the word jez them shops need knocking down a brilliant blog though till the next one 😊
Clarendon Road is where my brothers Hotel is the Clarendon showtel, its the only hotel on that road and won on the channel 4 show Four In A Bed.

The Home Bargain you passed was a Quick Save Supermarket went many times was compulsory purchased to make way for Blackpool's Casino bid .....only it didnt
Lived just passed the dunes on the other side. Always a great pub. Boddingtons. Italian restaurant used to be Booths supermarket back in the day
Good too see not many pubs closing for good like everywhere else

@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool You're Welcome absolute CLASS pal
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Sod it don't wanna keep going on but I will. You are definitely one of the best auditors on here be proud of your work it's unique
Good vid. Those houses that were used as 'grow-houses' look like they would make decent accommodation with some money spent on them - pity the surroundings are not better !
The house next to the Heritage coffee shop was Carnival House SC holiday flats we stayed there loads in the 1990s,think the landlady was Mrs Smith she was lovely
"The Bridge" best pub in Blackpool by a country mile, fantastic staff £1,000 cash bingo, live acts, cabaret and Stacey, need I say more. My go to pub every time I visit Blackpool!!
The Coliseum Bus Station is where I said “Goodbye” to Blackpool and started my journey to a new life in California. Night bus to London; Freddie Laker “Skytrain” from Gatwick. February, 1981.
Wowsers.
Hi there another fantastic video like always I can’t wait to be back in Blackpool in October but it’s a fantastic please
Hi Steve, have to say I did like the start of Lytham road but seen the deterioration of it towards the other end of it, some beautiful houses on Lytham road & it certainly is one hell of a long road, it's hard to believe it's the same road. See you on the next one.. Dave.
I remember the cycle shop! Had my dad paint my Raleigh Chopper white when it got a little long in the tooth and I bought some Kawasaki stickers there to put on the frame.
I loved my Raleigh Chopper. I was very lucky to have one.
Wow, I ended up in the Albert pub, on Lytham Road I was approached by a lady of the night on my way down there, she said is there anything your after? And i said yes I'd like to know how to get back to the promenade lol, I eventually found my way back but I remember the Albert was quite a locals sort of pub, I didn't feel very welcome, but still it was a good time
Happy days 😘
What a comparison some nice houses i think I saw the new walk on the wildside hq 👍
Also Dave Ball. Keyboard player in Soft Cell went to Arnold
With all the nastyness that is going on in the world these days, it's so refreshing to watch your videos thankyou, you make my day every video brings back brilliant memories of Blackpool when I was a kid. It was such a treat to go there back in the 70s me mam and dad sunbathing on the deck chairs me nanna and grandad telling us to stay out of the sun and dont eat to many sweets. Just love it you are a star xx
Lovely video Stephen thank you great content and quality 😊
I used to spend many a Saturday night in the Royal oak, some great bands followed by a kfc haha
Good afternoon Stephen.
I enjoyed you evening walk along Lytham road.
I'm hoping to get to Blackpool sometime this year for a few days as I have not been for a while.
Thankyou for sharing.
😊🍻👍🏻
Sounds great!
When I was a toddler, approx circa 1969, I had to have an operation at the old South Shore Hospital. It was called La Sagesse back then & was run by nuns. To this day I can still remember being absolutely terrified of them & being wheeled in to the operating theatre & then a huge black mask being put over my face for the gas to knock me out. I was so scared my poor mum ended up sleeping on a mattress on the floor of my room as I didn’t want to be left on my own!! 😢😂🤣
Sounds scary!
Thank you Stephen .👍👍
You could do a video pub crawl to show some good places for a night out.
Great video Stephen, this brings back fun memories as a young boy, for I grew up in Thornton Cleveleys… Now living in California
Steve, great funny vid as usual. Is The Tower some sort of phalliic symbol for you ? Take care my friend and keep it going👏👏👏😆😆😆
I shot video this Lytham to Blackpool recreating the film from 1903 when you say that Lytham Rd went all to Lytham I'm guessing that the trams would have used that route, the route now run by buses does differ in some parts,
There is or was a pub called the Uncle Albert with a pub sign with Buster Merryfield on it R I P Buster
Your videos are Great to watch should do Your own Documentary on Blackpool Stephen well done 👏
it was grand hotel pub/ had a swimming pool up stairs/ i remember drinking in there
The old Wetherspoons use to be called the Auctioneer. They sold it to another pub company called Hawthorn.
Arnold School used to take us to the Lido for swimming sessions. Independently of that, I got my first underwater kiss at the Lido from a young lady of my acquaintance named Dawn Spenser. Hi Dawn, if you’re out there!
Quite a few pubs Council wants to sort out the grotti parts of the road
Interesting and fascinating tour of Lytham Rd in Blackpool. Goodness me what a difference from one end to the other. Those big houses and trees looked very graceful and grand but as soon as you walk the other end, well you might as well be in the slums of India. Nice to see where it all started for you. Wonder why the Wetherspoon pub shut, as that’s not something you see too much. Great vlog Stephen 👍
I heard they had to close it if they wanted to open the Counting House. When it was a Weatherspoons it was called The Auctioneer. And was renamed the Gavel by the new owners.
@@gordonprentice7090 ok thanks for that Gordon
@@gordonprentice7090 One of the former 'spoons managers at the Auctioneer said that once the Velvet Coaster opened and because of its proximity, footfall dropped quite dramatically so it was a business decision to sell it. The Counting House is a Greene King establishment.
I imagine the top end of Lytham Road has suffered a lingering death since the Colliseum Coach Station closed in 1987. It's an appalling mess, on par with Central Drive - very sad.
What's on the comedy carpet today Sat 28? Could see on the webcam some sort of gathering.
Chris Lowe from the Pet Shop Boys went to the private school down the posh end of Lytham Road. Ooops should have watched fully before posting my comment as you had mentioned it.
It was Arnold School 👍🏻 now it’s all changed into Armfield Academy where my Son is Head of Year Maths 😊
Alan Bradley says ,stay off the tram track ,look both ways 😳
Who lives in a house like this!! haha Gorgeous Houses
Hi Stephen
Love it m8 great content interesting place
Thanks Paul.
That's a nice park for kids and dogs
Definitely need to plant some trees.
good vid m8
Defo the nice end of Lytham Rd
It was the Tiberius casino not the Grand which burnt down.
Those cars at cash 4 cars always look like they're ready for the scrap yard I wonder if Boycie from Only Fools And Horses is running the place lol
Looks like it lol.
I'd be scared of walking along lytham road late at night alone lol
