Legendary skateboarder Rodney Mullen steps into Steven Sebring's 360-degree studio to debut new tricks for the first time in 12 years. Music by Dhani Harrison.
"By 2007 the constant hyper-extension of his limbs during transitions had created mobility problems for him, to the extent that scar tissue had built up so much around his right hip joint that he was finding it hard to even walk. But once again Rodney’s constant strive for innovation turned even that into a positive, by developing a non-stance based style that favored his weaker side and allowed him to develop even more elements into his already unique style" quote from gazette review makes this even more beautiful
In the book The Mutt he described lodging his foot under the wheelwell or fender of his car and yanking his hip to break up the scar tissue on days when it would seize up.
Saw Rodney in the early 80s in California and was blown away, the fact that he's STILL skating every night and I'm afraid to look at a board cross wise is just stunning. For me he's the best ever, no one close.
The way he stands posed, with his arms slightly out, all calm while he spins on one foot is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in skateboarding. I feel like that should be a sculpture or statue.
Just listened to Rodney talk about this shoot on Hawk vs Wolf and came to watch this again. Wasn't expecting it to bring out such intense emotion for me. I'm just inspired that he has done exactly what he loves his whole life. No matter how hard it is.
Vogue has this video as well, it has 1.5 million views. Anyone who knows anything about skateboarding looks up to Rodney. A living legend, unbelievably humble and generous.
I could watch Rodney skate and listen to him talk for the rest of my life and be happy... He is the embodiment of skateboarding inspiration... And he has inspired me ... Thank u Rodney for all u have done to enrich the lives and minds of all the community from the younger to the ones who remember the brilliant ‘old’ days of 10 by 30...!👍😂 Much love Chris ❤️🙏🇬🇧x
Rodney took skateboarding into a new dimension, a fresh realm, it became art. His impact to his art has inspired others alike. I have been a fan of Rodney's for around 40 years. Then . . . . . came along Kilian Martin - Rodney's prodigy. May this art and artists keep pushing boundaries forever, skateboarding must NEVER die !!
Even modern vert is influenced by tricks he created, despite him never being a vert skater. Been in awe of him since I was a kid learning to skate in the 80s
00:17 he's been doing this entry for years. I'd say since the beginning of his career. It's so bad ass. It's like dropping jaws in the audience at moment zero of his run.
No one could be the Rodney Mullen of other sport. No one else have created and mastered so many different techniques, most of which are not reproduced until today. Rodney is in another level
SUPER RARE TALENT for sure. Definition of God given skills. Can't take away the work mullen puts in to per-fect his craft.👏🏼 (whats the next level of mad scientist?)
2:15 Are we not going to talk about the fucking inhuman *stationary flat-ground true 360 kickflip underflip* ... only landed by about 3 skaters in history, and only landed with consistency by one man.
2:22 he called this a "switch nollie laserflip" haha because the way he does it supposed to be different to how a regular footed skater would normally do a fakie laser flip
This is what you get when non-skaters with high-tech rigs attempt to film elite skaters -- they slow down stuff that's not important or not particularly significant and gloss over and utterly miss the technically most impressive moments that skaters would actually want to see in slo-mo, slowed down by a factor of 1000 to truly showcase Mullen's technical mastery and signature abilities
Worth noting that he is very weak at this point, and had been for years (hence why he didn't really do much post-2003). The greatest to ever step on a deck.
0:45 in time scale, he went into primo 1 foot spinner so fast , the humans eye blinking feels lazy - its impossible to even explain how hard this trick is for a non skater :D rodney king of f.s
Okay this looks cool, but it would've been 10 times better spinning the other direction so the camera follows the action. Some tricks line up, but I think coordinating the camera movement would've added so much more. Still, it's a cool video.
I was looking for this comment: the showy editing took away from this video. I would have preferred if that impressive filming setup was put in service of Rodney's movement skills, to show his body moving with clarity. All the speedups and overlays were an unwanted distraction and a misuse of editing.
I wish he had never done this video. The whole 360 degree filming crap is so gimmicky. The black and white look makes it look washed out. Worst of all, he only does tricks he did throughout the 80's. In fact this is the most stationary I've ever seen him skate.
You know before this video he hadnt skated in 8 years. HE SPENT 8 YEARS BREAKING AWAY CALFICATION IN HIS HIP FROM AN INJURY BY BASHING IT WITH THE END OF A SCREWDRIVER AND FUCKING WITH IT USING THE WHEEL WELL IN HIS CAR UNTIL ONE DAY AFTER ALMOST A DECADE OF A PHYSICALLY TORTURING HIMSELF SO HE POSSIBLY COULD SKATE AGAIN IT FINALLY POPPED BACK INTO PLACE. THAT IS SOME HARDCORE MEDIEVEL SHIT MY DUDE. Just the fact he can even do an Ollie now is a testiment of this mans drive.
Rodney is the embodiment of the god of skateboarding bound in human flesh
Fa Sho.
He either did or did not sell his soul to the devil? 🤷🏼♂️ I'm assuming he's rolling with Jesus tho.
This should be on a loop in every skateshop. I grew up skating and watching these guys in the 80s and it was nothing but magic

i usually dont give a shit about tricks done on flatland but rodney is an innovator and a pioneer
The man changed the world.
The ultimate trickster and innovator.
By far my favorite skateboarder of all time, absolute legend🤘
Genius .. Amazing grace. Whoever downvoted this is plain ignorant.
This. Is. So. Metal.

2:43 WHAT!?! 1 footed 540 shuv? That is insane.
Yeah I think that was one of the new ones lol
This man is the best skater, even in switch.
1:18 thats just insane
He lands it in one of his video parts, I can't find which one at the moment :)
This isnt even skateboarding, its art! He will always be legend!
Just listened to Rodney talk about this shoot on Hawk vs Wolf and came to watch this again. Wasn't expecting it to bring out such intense emotion for me. I'm just inspired that he has done exactly what he loves his whole life. No matter how hard it is.
Human As An Ever Evolving Monument!!!!!!
How does this have so little views? Amazing stuff!
Vogue has this video as well, it has 1.5 million views. Anyone who knows anything about skateboarding looks up to Rodney. A living legend, unbelievably humble and generous.
Because it's a stolen video, and at a lower quality than at Vogue.
@@jasondashney Dude this whole youtube channel is literally the guy who filmed it
@@norkosaurus Really? I believe you, but I'm still confused as to why it's a lower quality then. Interesting.

The editing, music and overall video is sick. Rodney Mullen the GOAT 🔥🔥
Most awe-inspiring skate video
This is pure art. Just beautiful
Amazing video filming! There is no big enough tribute for this man, street skateboarding owes him so much... thanks Rodney!!
everything, we owe him everything
Even modern vert is influenced by tricks he created, despite him never being a vert skater. Been in awe of him since I was a kid learning to skate in the 80s
true legend
This is true art. I could watch this for hours!!
Best flat ground skater in the world
He can express himself just as beautifully skating as he can talking. I’ve never been into skateboarding, But I could watch him all day.
Rodney Mullen is so rad cool stuff keep doing what you're doing
00:17 he's been doing this entry for years. I'd say since the beginning of his career. It's so bad ass. It's like dropping jaws in the audience at moment zero of his run.
Mullen had been a hero of mine since the 80s, and I love how he still incorporates tricks from way back then into his style.
No one could be the Rodney Mullen of other sport. No one else have created and mastered so many different techniques, most of which are not reproduced until today. Rodney is in another level
Jaw drop, jaw unhinged.
What a fantastic way to capture a fantastic skateboarder. Thank you.
Greatest skater ever
One of the dopest things I’ve seen.
He's my god since my first heelflip, in 1997.
1:40 He is a monster when he's alone. Look at the power on his face. A literal fucking god...
The grace of a master flamenco dancer, the skill of Andrés Segovia.
This is beautiful
I have no words
The fact the man can still do it is Amazing I was learning his tricks in 1999
Some don't like the style of the video, but what I appreciate about this is the professionalism of the production.
Merci d'exister... pour moi le meilleur skateur au monde...
Beautiful... Mesmerizing... Amazing... Incredible!
The Jimi Hendrix of skateboarding…
Skate God himself 👤
Awesome ❤️
Two artists, great work!
2:04 When he starts by holding the centre of his deck, you know shit is about to get real.
Thank you
Rodney is Rodney ❤️ BTW this video is carrying out so much artisticity and direction. Loved it 🔥🔥
absolutely magnificent
Amazing!!!
Thank you!
Those Primo landing!!!

This is amazing!!! Glad I found you :D
How does this video only have 24,000 views???????
He's just so fucking cool
Masterful. You have inspired me to review my vision and not just to capture, but to create art and communication. I thank you 🙏.
He redefined the modern skater 🛹

2:48 Is this new? Don't think I've ever seen a kickflip from single-legged pogo or whatever the hell that was. Insane.
A lot of these tricks are new
wow!!
Thumbnail looked like a dark souls boss
The Power is here
1:18 Rodney always has the best wowers
Really amazing guy! And it's about time to legalize mall grabbing! Even a god does it. 1:33 :D
if at any point during the video you said, "fuck you" out loud. give praise to the literal king!
defying physics...genious
6 people are insane
This is footage at home in a les Claypool vid
FG God. Forever.
2:22 he called this a "switch nollie laserflip" haha

The Godfather... So fuckin sick.

Hellstrike

I thought I was hot shit for chaining together massive street tricks in THPS 4, but it doesn't even come close to watching the master at work
Worth noting that he is very weak at this point, and had been for years (hence why he didn't really do much post-2003). The greatest to ever step on a deck.
1:18 Do we know if he ever managed to land that truck flip on video?
Hawk vs. Wolf
The Godfather.
seve ser mt fd pra ele manda um flip ou ver alguem mandar, pq tipo e uma manobra q ele inventou a mo tempao, e geral manda

Are we sure he isn't Andy Anderson's father?
Bruce Lee on a board. Any watching physicists wanting to know what gravity is? Ask Mr.Mullen, I think he knows something you don't.
The skateboarding is beautiful enough without the visual effects...
This kind of guys who is never glad of anything.

Not bad but there's room for improvement.......jk Now I'm going to slappy a curb like it owes me money.
