    The thing I love about this video is it shows how you can be amazing and not land every trick every time. People get so used to skate videos where the 53rd take is the one used and think you suck when you mess up skating in real life but it's about those fails too. If Rodney Mullen can mess up so can any skater.

      True......but I did see him and the world guys during the 94 summer demo tour. I saw Joey Surrel(spelling) try a fakie kickflip on a bank over 50 times and then after he almost(almost) landed it Remo did a ghetto bird 1st try on a 8ft quarter

      @@js92css I remember when world ind. toured Australia round the same year. I watched Kris Markovich and Jason Ellis going back to back trying to make this big kicker to bank gap, it really re enforced the determination required to catch and land that one perfect attempt. **edit !Shit I even found a picture from it! globecorporate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/22_history.jpg and I'm pretty sure that's my arms holding the kicker on the left!

    The most beautiful thing about this video is you realize the way his style adopted more to what we know as street skating. Skating was becoming something different in the 90’s and at this point there was more to skating than freestyle. He had a more aggressive and street style

      Strange 2 c him messing up. He was new 2 a street board back then and who knows, maybe he was on an empty stomach or sum too strong coffee. I think this is him learning street though. Which is pretty neat.

      @@creativeog3497 he even didn't like street skating in the beginning; took him a couple months to get used to it because in freestyle you look at your board and in street at the obstacle. But he clearly invented most tricks needed for street and made them popular, so he is the godfather of street.

      @@markdelej Alan Gelfand invented the Ollie, not Mullen. Mullen played a part in bringing tech into street skating in the 90s, but he did not invent it. Street skaters where basically kids who couldn't afford to get into skate parks. Mark Gonzales and Natas imo played a larger part in bringing street skating into popularity well before the 90s.

      It s actully not that hard, foot straight, toes on nose, push foot into board, lean foward and to the right a little, jump forward a little and when board is unweighted spin it by twisting your ankle clockwise try to catch your landing with back foot, its actully pretty safe to learn and is similar to taking a quick jogging step up a curb, Im in my 40's and I got it dialed last year, once you get it down you can keep your back foot on the board if you want...but the one foot thing bugs people out way more.

      I can only do a 360. But I find the hang-ten version is actually easier, so I sticked with that for years, and now it's harder to do a one foot. I should practice more. :D

      I was 15. Had been skating for a year, maybe. Could do front side noseslides (on curbs), pretty tall ollie's, and wall rides....almost varial flips. Funny, I still skate, but can't do wall rides or even get close to varial flips now.

    Я помню, в середине 2000-х профаки приезжали уже даже командами (на стене до сих пор автографы парней из circa висят, хотя давно не катаюсь). Изредка в видео мелькали российские места в конце 90-х начале 2000-х. Но чтобы они приезжали так рано в Россию не знал, да еще не абы кто а сам Батя аж в 94-м и в Питер. И все это без интернетов и игр про Хоука на ps1. Жесть. Как они его туда затащили?)

      Late flips were actually pretty much out by '94. Everybody was doing them in the early 90's. In the mid-90's everybody started doing more basic stuff, focusing on style rather than crazy flips. There's a lot of late-flip stuff in the first Plan B video Questionable.

    Heard about this run, there was not so much people, and Rodney was upset, he was a legend already in the US. In Russia we just started to learn what a skateboarding is😄 after his run in SPB local guys received so powerful shot of motivation and inspiration that sb started to grow fast.

      Wasn't my first, but I just figured out heelflips last week. I landed a heelflip regular and fakie in a single game of skate about 6 years ago. Last week, it just clicked and I landed about 10 crispy heelflips.......more than 25 years after I started skating.

Я помню лет 10 назад читал статейку, возможно с форума skateboarding.ru, в которой упоминалось что Родни в 90ых приезжал в нашу страну как раз, но на просторах YT был только приезд в 2001, который On Video засняли. То видео с тех пор перезалили в хорошем качестве, а по 94ому возможно только на пару фото натыкался.

      "Родни Маллен приехал в Россию впервые в 1994 году на контест в Санкт-Петербург. За неделю до этого мы узнали, что он приедет, но не поверили, пока сами не убедились в этом. Подъезжая к площадке в Питере, мы увидели, что все сидят и катается только один человек, конечно, это был именно он. После Питера он приезжал в Москву на несколько дней вместе со скейтерами из Калифорнии (CASL). Он катался на многих спотах и снял много видео. Ему очень понравилось, и второй раз он приезжал уже со своими друзьями, включая Марка Джонсона и т.д. в 2001 году."

    This is awesome. Seeing Mullen again Brings me back to my highschool skateboarding days. I watched so many Skate videos. And my go to reading was CCS skating magazine lol. Mullen, Muska, Campbell, Burnquist, Lasek, Glifberg, Reynolds!!! Few more I can't seem to remember right now. Jamie Thomas I think. Man it was so long ago. I thot I was so cool cuz I could double kickflip lol. Only thing I was good at was not losing my skills during the winter. Awesome times.

      No, It's a Menace shirt. Menace was a skate brand in the World Industries sphere, and Rodney worked at World Industries at the time.

      No its a contest, but in Russia, between guys from baltic countries of post soviet Europe and Russia, i dont know was Rodney a participant of contest or may be he was just like special guest with perfomance.That time some things what is losts its actuality in developed world, get to russia with late.

      @@matsook rodney was probably a special guest. he stopped competing in freestyle in 1990. in 94 he was already in street skate but still mastered many freestyle tricks.
