Then I go on to find he invented the modern day skateboard and damn near every flat ground trick there is. Y’all, I was 14 when this game came out. I live in the hood so to speak, but always admired offbeat things. This game changed my life, I started skateboarding because of it, and I was the only black kid I knew with a skateboard. Seeing Kareem Campbell on the game gave me the confidence to roll through my neighborhood without caring.
Although I wasn’t able to continue skateboarding very long (god gave me weak af ankles), I helped inspire other kids in the neighborhood to start skateboarding. I gave my boards away to the kids in my neighborhood and watched them do tricks I could never imagine doing. THPS changed the whole dynamic of what it meant to be a minority skateboarder, I am so grateful this game was around in my life.
