I like that ranch saddle a lot. You build great quality products! In a throw away world it’s so nice to see a skilled craftsman doing what they do best. Carry on. Great video.
Nice video. As far as olive oil goes, it does not go rancid,it does not draw rats and it puts neatsfoot oil to shame. Neatsfoot has distillets in it and will make mush in old dry leather. Capriola saddlery only uses olive oil and they've been around a very long time. Blessings on ya Don and your family also. Addios.
You are right on the rats. I have a customer that left his motorcycle in a shed all winter & when he went to get it out to ride, the saddlebags were all chewed up. Rats love leather.
You can add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil if you're worried about how tasty the leather is. But the best thing is to deal with "sanitation & harborage," when you're worried about rodents.
a mechanic told me that they use part of the peanut hull in the insulation of the wires is why the mice eat on them. I can see that in the old wires that were covered in a cloth type covering, but I'm not sure I believe that on the new wiring. But that makes me wonder about peanut oil attracting mice. ?

If it’s not a trade secret, where do y’all buy saddle trees? I’m not in business, just curious.
Always enjoy these videos. Always something to learn. Thank you
Thanks Don, Looking forward to the Rope Bag Video. Thank you for taking time to do these briefings.
I'm going to have to give the olive oil a try. I'm using mink oil now.
that ranch saddle is freaking SWEET! Also Ive seen a few people talking about how much they love that edge dressing.
Good Monday on Tuesday, thanks Don.

Martin's Mix is pretty good stuff. I'd definitely recommend it. Sometimes those edges just don't want to comply.

The rats will also chew the wire insulation in your car. No olive oil on those.

Thanks again Don! Who sorted the egg containers by color next to the fridge?
So do you straight edge your sides from the belly only, or both belly and back?
Dang Don, how many times did you aquire "tan lines" on your hides before you figured out it was the lights? Thanks for that heads up!
Any plans to sell the toe fender pattern in the future?
I have always called those tapaderos.
