The life cycle of these things is incredible. The fact they start as one insect and then completely decompose while being rebuilt into a completely different insect is just mindblowing.
they dont decompose at all, they shed the outer layer

That was amazing to watch. What a beautiful creature. I love moths. So many color changes, you’d never guess he’d emerge in white & gray with only a touch of that neon chartreuse. The continual shedding is like when it’s cold out and you have to keep removing layers when you come back inside.

Very interesting! I put 2 green hornworms onto my bird feeder off of my tomato plants. They kept finding ways to escape under or away…..so I dropped them off the feeder into a leafy shady area.
