I HAVE FINALLY MADE IT TO MY 193rd COUNTRY -- ECUADOR!! Now I only have 4 countries left until I have visited every country in the world!
I am so freaking excited to be spending the next 12 days traveling around Ecuador with a camera crew, while we shoot for my upcoming documentary about visiting every country (which is now a docuseries, with each of my final 6 countries being one full episode!)
We started our Ecuadorian adventure in the underrated capital city of Quito, and then we got off into the countryside in one of the most stunning towns called Baños. I was so lucky to meet the coolest local friends, Micaela, Esteban and Gustavo through Instagram, who have been kind enough to introduce me to their culture. There will be many more adventures to come across Ecuador!

You can exchange with no problem for regular us coins anywhere in ecuador

Maté is actually indigenous to South America, particularly Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay as you said. When Arab immigrants came to South America they started drinking maté too, and when they returned to their countries they brought it with them. Maté comes from many indigenous tribes across South America.

a friend of mine lived most of his life in Ecuador, died there and is buried there.
he got married there and was a parent and grandparent there.

I'm happy to have stumbled upon this video. It brings back so many memories from when I studied abroad in Cuenca. I traveled all over Ecuador; big cites, little towns, the coast, the sierras, the Amazon, the islands and everywhere else. I saw and did innumerable things. The experiences were unforgettable. I so miss the aji and llapingachos.

The syrians did not bring Mate here, dude... It was drunk by indigenous peoples along the Uruguay and Paraná rivers. It's also pretty different from that kind of middle-eastern tea you showed. :)

Maté didn't come from the middle east. Actually it comes from South America, Lebanese and Syrian immigrants in Latin America brought it back to the middle east where it is found today even in refugee camps in Irak.

@Aces it depends on the area! not all cities are dangerous like in every country, most tourists don't visit those zones because it is not picturesque nor fun to visit

Not everything in Ecuador cost $1 dollar. That is just in small villages in the country side or mountanauis side. In the bigger cities everything is expensive rent, food, transportation, clothes, medical doctors ect.

I am so proud to have grown up in Chicago and given the luxury of visiting my parents homeland Quito Ecuador since the age of 9 for many summers while growing up. Now a family man my own family has visited twice. My Mexican wife has met many of my relatives down there and has enjoyed it. We were set to travel last year for a 3 week adventure. I was going to take them to the swing. But our plans fell through due to the pandemic. I miss you Ecuador 🇪🇨

Omg he’s in Ecuador. My favorite place was riobamba because the mountains are so beautiful. Quito has a nice cathedral and Guayaquil is a beautiful city. And if you wanna see the beach, go to Salinas.

In fact they drink mate 🧉 in siria because of all the Sirians that migrated to Argentina and then came back with the habit of drinking it, mate is a guaraní drink, the native people of some parts of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil
I traveled to Ecuador several times in the ‘90’s and enjoyed everything about the country. I remember my hotel room in Quito was about $18 US; dinner consisting of chicken and rice soup, 1/4 roast chicken with potatoes and a green salad, and a house beverage, cost about $2.50 at a place called Sandris.
Sandy's has been one of my favorite places to eat with my friends while I was in College... It's so funny to know thst people from abroad know about it 🤣

@Aces Ive been staying in Ecuador for 2 months and felt very safe. Only places I would avoid is the poorer neighborhoods of Guayaquil and Quito, like every big city in the world, it has rougher areas. Otherwise I walk alone at night all the time in most of the country with no issues. The people are very nice.

10:19 I can't let you say that hahaha. Mate is from Argentina Uruguay and Paraguay and migrants from Syria an Lebanon start drinking it here first. In fact the herb is only from this area (specially from Paraguay and Uruguay). Fun fact: southern brazilians also drink mate, and a few chileans as well. Greetings!
