MEET THE SLEEPLESS MAN OF VIETNAM (Yes, it's true!!) This is one of the most surreal stories I’ve ever told you in my 7-year career as a CZcamsr, and I can’t wait for you to watch it!
I first heard about Mr. Thai Ngoc many years ago, and I never knew it would be possible to find him because his location has never been revealed.
Mr. Ngoc claims that he hasn’t slept a wink since 1962 (the year my dad was born) - seriously! Some people think it could be PTSD from the war, while others believe that he has an extremely rare medical condition. Whatever the case is, I traveled 2 days from Arizona to a small village in South Vietnam to track him down, stay up all night with him, and see if it was actually true that he doesn’t sleep.
What I discovered is astonishing. Comment below your thoughts if you think it's true or false, based on my experience. I'd love to hear from you!

It is an amazing story but it can not be true. 0:20 There have been others who have claimed that they do not sleep. When those people have been observed in a dream lab it has turned out that they all sleep in shorts intervals. Also all animals sleep. I once attended a lecture on the importance of sleep. The lecturer was an expert on the subject. He told us that people who say that they never sleep are wrong. Some of those people are attention seekers and others wake up time and time again having slept only a few minutes. The people who sleep only a few minutes at a time do not have a sensation of having been sleeping. They can be utterly convinced that they have not slept at all.

  • @domoetker3967

This is definitely severe insomnia caused by PTSD, unfortunately it's not that uncommon actually. He likely experiences 'micro-sleep' quite often (this lasts only several seconds to minutes typically), he said he is able to sleep for about 2 hours if he drinks enough alcohol to stop thinking, that confirms that it's directly PTSD related. He likely developed a fear of sleeping/being unconscious during the war.
I personally have experienced a full week of no sleep several times because of my own PTSD, the only reason I was unable to sleep was fear, any time I'd get close to sleeping even the smallest sound, movement or thought would have my heart jumping out of my chest, for that reason I started preferring to keep myself busy at night.
The fear that's keeping you awake with this kind of PTSD is either the night terrors experienced when sleeping or the fear of a repeat of your traumatic experience. In my case it was mostly fear of someone coming into my home to commit violence on me as that is what happened to me.
I still am an insomniac, though I've had some improvement, I feel really bad for this man because I know how exhausting and uncomfortable it is to sleep this little for extended periods of time.
In reality this man probably knows exactly why he can't sleep but it's too painful to confront head on himself, so he copes through addictions and distractions, it is typical severe PTSD.

      @higamerXD Před 8 měsíci +374

its pretty disappointing how kinda inhuman drew treated him, instead of looking at it like he's a human who just wants to sleep and move on he sort of treated it like a object in a youtube video, how he just sticks the camera in his face all the time and doesn't at all see it as something he should feel empathy for but instead something to be admired or chastised,
this clearly is not just some gimmick this person lives with but this is a horrible case of someone being misused and exploited by media over severe untreated mental illness caused by the war the USA fought, i hope someday he gets the help he so rightly deserves.
him calling this man a super human just goes to show how incredible ignorant and disrespectful of the circumstances drew is and i hope he changes his view on this at some point.
all in all this whole video sits pretty wrong with me, it feels kinda sickening the way he treats the whole thing when you look at it as a man with severe PTSD just trying to cope with the horrors that he is reminded of every time he as much as tries to sleep.

Nobody helped him his whole life, doctors, apothecarians, psychologists, nobody. But your ignorance is blinding you so you call drew out for harassing him? ye let him die with the sickness alone and forgotten by your logic instead bringing awareness. I also have PTSD (C-PTSD when eventually added to the DSM) I can only fall asleep with the security of sunrise; never sleep during the night. I’ve been to some of the best specialists in Florida & tried a cocktail of sleep medicine without success. This disorder has negatively changed my life forever. All of this happened when a friend took me to the best abuse center in the US, located in Naples, FL. They used a technique called “planting a seed.” It basically means everything you were taught in life that is your normal, is actually backwards. I had to relearn life. Ignorance really is bliss… all I knew before was a life of surviving; completely controlled, never made a decision for myself, and abused on a scale only a few know.

This dudes life was changed forever because of war from his sleep to his hand to his lifestyle and all that. Then an American comes and after everything he’s been thru he still extended his hand greeted you with open arms gave you a place to stay and fed you and never cared where you came from an laughed at the fact that American people had a hand in what altered his life. This dude has the biggest forgiving loving heart there is and this shows me I got a ton of work to do on my self. WOW. The internet has changed the western world in the worst way possible, and all it does is stoke the egos of all these desperate, annoying, lonely kids and young adults. Now everything is about how much flashy bling you have, going to nightclubs half naked, doing drugs, money money money, sex, shooting or hurting people you don't like, suing someone because they looked at you funny, destroying English with street slang, the list goes on. People that live in places like this man haven't been exposed to and brainwashed by the same things the rest of us are. I don't think the war plays any part in his sleep problem, it was a long time ago, assuming he is 80 years old and even fought in the war, he offered no proof he served in the army and no evidence was presented to establish his age. His sons look remarkably young for a guy 80. How old are they, no older then 22-27? Look at the age of his wife. It doesn't add up for a couple that old to have such young children.
It's much more likely his sleep problem is caused by the constant amount of sugar he's consuming in the rice wine (reinforced by the fact he barely eats) that is over-stimulating his brain. Add to that he's clearly a chronic alcoholic, drinking 50-70% proof rice wine like its water all day long. Alcohol is extremely toxic to the organs, and has almost certainly damaged his brain and liver at this level of consumption over an extended period.
He clearly has a very very high tolerance to alcohol if he can drink 1 litre of this stuff and be fine. That would be enough to put the average person out of action for several days, and in some cases might even be a lethal blood level of alcohol, depending on the amount of alcohol in his home-made rice wine, which could be higher than 70% proof. German alcohol made from potatoes is typically 70-90% proof, much stronger than vodka or whisky. Even drinking a bottle of whisky or vodka a day for years would severely damage your liver, brain and other organs.
He's been slowly poisoning himself over a long period. It's more a miracle that he's even alive, and in such good shape, ad not severely ill or even dead,. Remarkable he's able to get by with the occasional nap and just laying down to rest, and still able to function and do work every day, even despite this level of alcohol poisoning on his body.
I'd love to see some MRI scans of his liver and brain to see how extensive the alcoholism damage is by doing blood works on him to measure his blood sugar level and assess his liver function. It does raise some interesting scientific inquiry into what's different about Asian cultures, and factors like healthier diets, low-stress lifestyles, compared to the West, which reduces the risk of diseases and promotes healthier old ages in their countries compared to ours.

He doesn't get "zero" sleep, he likely microsleeps or has absence seizures to compensate for the amount of time perceived awake. I was an opiate addict, and a lot of times I couldn't close my eye's and sleep unless I was loaded. Even now I have been sleeping in my computer chair for almost a year now. My bed is full of my clothes. The reason is when I lay down I feel like i'm dying, and I jump back awake. The fear that hits me is so hard I just ended up staying awake. He’s really amazing! I think why he doesn’t sleep is because he values Buddhism and meditation.
There are some studies that show that meditation can substitute sleep very well which is really impressive!
Also, after a long time not sleeping, he most likely changed his circadian rhythm to match his meditation.
Alcohol, smoking, and exposure to extreme weather conditions and still working probably keeps his body resilient to disease.
The trauma from war and poor conditions probably started his body’s adaptive process to a lack of help, PTSD may have cut off his brain’s ability to produce sleep hormones because of it processing sleep as a dangerous process to take part in.
Something may have happened during the war while he slept that caused his brain to reprogram itself to match what it expected to be lifelong conditions.
Maybe this is why he’s so healthy but can’t sleep?

What if he took like a Valium or some kind of sleep aid I wonder if he would sleep, maybe! Thanks for sharing that was a beautiful story. The food looked delicious except for the blood bars yuck. You were brave to take a bite lol!! And I believe he sleeps just a little bit at night and rests, but definitely not sleeping like a normal human. I totally believe it! And maybe it does have something to do with the war, his poor hand, but goes on every day, when he got on a bike and started riding it at 80 years old I was like wow . Thanks for sharing 💜💯💜

Without question, this poor man is suffering for lack of sleep since the Vietnam War. He was partially injured and perhaps could not forget that war and scared to die or be killed if he falls asleep. It could be his mind playing him around and he uses rice wine to numb his fear and feelings. Let's all wish him nothing but the best and hope God gives him more years but more importantly some little joy and happiness in this cruel world of ours (don't think he's truly happy) before finally meeting his end. He's such a kind, loving and decent person and not fair to live such kind of life without experiencing once again ... sleep, rest and real relaxation.

You mean "we are very powerful". Not "our brains". We don't *have* brains, we *are* brains. None of our body is separate from the other parts. There aren't even actual "parts" of the body. We only made up the "parts" so we could itemize them and differentiate where or what needed medical attention. Where does your head really end and your neck ACTUALLY begin? Our bodies are one big unit. We are our bodies, not something inhabiting a body like a pilot in a mechanical robot suit. Not how it works.
Back to the sleepless man; do you think prescription meds would help him if he could obtain some?
