Hi Friends! I have spent the better part of the last decade trying to meet a real-life cannibal, and I finally have completed my goal here in Varanasi, India. For real! His name is "Baba" and he is an Aghori man who lives on the banks of the Ganges River - the site where more than 300 bodies are cremated every day and their ashes are thrown into the river. Varanasi is the most spiritual place in India, and for Hindus, it's the holiest place to have their bodies burned.
Baba explained to me the various reasons why he eats humans (spoiler alert: he said the heart is the best part of the body) - and what I discovered will leave you speechless.
Thank you Shubham for taking me around Varanasi. If you need a guide to India, contact him! / shubhxfilms

New subscriber here Drew from South Carolina 🇺🇲! As uncomfortable as it is, especially the first few mins, the vlog is actually interesting in giving insights and knowledge to other culture/ritual. Also, it showcased how respectful people in India can be.
Owning a GoPro is actually very helpful in showing the beauty of Carolinas especially here in Charleston, a historic place dating back before the Civil war. Anyways, looking forward to more of your videos! 👍

Believe me, I'm an Indian myself and I find these practices in Varanasi to be EXREMELY weird myself too lol. Things like these are not mentioned in Hinduism but some people in Varanasi do it to please the Hindu goddess of Death
Hope you have a great day!
This is extremely uncommon and unpleasant for us Indians too, but this is common around the area where cremations are done. There are aghori babas in these areas who practice this rituals.
Thx for clarifying!
@@drewbinsky Also, Aghorism is not very open in other cities. Only in Varanasi they are this bold. As a lot of bodies there are of people who live outside of Varanasi, they are left unattended after rites as their family has left the city. Most people don't prefer their loved ones body being eaten.

Even for Indians, this is overwhelming and Aghoris are tiny part of Varanasi. There is so much more to do in this holiest town for Hindus. Kashi Vishwanath temple is among the top places to see here.
I really give props to you and your team for putting together a video with a focus on a cannibal and cannibalism without a drop of sensationalism, but rather one which evokes curiosity and shows what are, to the great majority of people, seriously disturbing practices and unnerving individuals as more of an ancient and specific cultural occurrence practiced by people that are considerably closer to normal people than we think. Yes, he does stuff that's even frightening to most locals, but the way you interacted with him and how he was shown in this video barely even gave me a fraction of the horrible vibes other videos and documentaries about Aghori Babas I've seen before gave me. I don't know if I've expressed myself properly, but to sum it all up, you make amazing travel videos, ones that are really capable of showing things through different and more respectful perspectives :) Thanks a lot for that!

He’s not a cannibal he’s an aghori and also why u gotta make comments about him chopping u up he told u that’s it’s a spiritual thing he’s not a murderer and also pls atleast highlight the full beauty and aspects of the religion Hinduism and how being an aghori is its own separate thing now ppl gonna hear ppl praising lord shiva and try and correlate hinduism to cannibalism… you CZcamsrs gotta realise when ur doing more harm than good , smh
I feel “cannibalism” is not the right word to use here. Cannibalism implies eating human flesh to satiate hunger and overlooking any alternatives. It may also imply an intent to kill other humans to cook and eat their flesh, which is abominable.
What Aghoris do is eat leftovers from the cremation of dead bodies. They don’t kill or murder anyone; they consume it as a symbol to see all matter as the same. Structurally, all living and dead organisms are made of the same cells. It’s a thought and perspective of the cosmos and the world in which we live. They do it as part of their meditative practices to pursue ‘siddhis’, helping them, according to scriptures, to further their Kundalini awakening process. This might appear associated with ‘dark forces’, but in Hinduism and Tantra, which is one of the many ritualistic practices within it, there is no devil or dark force as such. There are gods and demons, but the ultimate lord has no evil counterpart as in Western mythology. There are evil spirits, Daityas, Asuras, etc., but all of them, as creatures of this cosmos, fall under the jurisdiction of the almighty Para-Brahma, Purusha, and Shakti. There is simply no division of attributes for the ultimate God, and he justly prevails over all good and evil ultimately. Being an Aghori is an ascetic practice, mostly misunderstood due to involvement in Tantra, which is a fierce ritualistic order. You can read more about it in many reputable books.
Coming back to the point, “cannibalism” should be a slight misnomer here. But I don’t know of any alternatives either. They only consume the bodies that are burnt and left at the cremation field, and this is supposed to be done after the aspirant is well in control of his senses and has progressed enough on the Aghori path. They’re ascetics, basically, cutting off all ties with the material world and worshipping “Shakti”.
Aghoris cut off all ties from their families and friends and go to live on the bare minimum under a Tantric guru. They have to practice severe austerities. According to one Hindu model of the cosmos, there is Purusha and Shakti, and this Maya (the world around us) is an interplay between them. The Aghori transcends the bindings of this human birth and experiences the truth in this universe through severe penances, ritualistic practices, and austerities.
Books by Robert Svoboda and John Woodroffe might serve as a good starting point if you’re an English-speaking person. Otherwise, you can go to Varanasi and explore the local cremation ghats yourself. Varanasi is special because it is the mythical city of Lord Shiva - Kashi. Here, a person reaches the peak of renunciation according to many Hindu scriptures. You can read more about it.
I hope this helps you understand the Aghori’s place in Hinduism and why they consume leftovers from cremations.
Anyone who eats human flesh is a cannibal. You can sugar-coat it all you like but it's creepy a.f and NOT normal civilised human behaviour.
Thanks for the clarification
Stop justifying it. Ewww. Terrible people

Excited to see my bro drew, I wanted to document Punjab,India with go pro ,which u are going to give me😅😅
A serious question: Isn’t he at high-risk of catching a disease by drinking human blood? That’s all I can think of when I see him do it.
Yes . Absolutely wild
KURU.
Iam not sorry to say this. Bro u r just seeing tail of an elephant and showing it as if it is the only thing that exists. If u want to show it to the world u should look into it fully, aghora is not only about eating human flesh. A-GORA means he sees everything as sacred, he doesn’t want to divide world with the thought of something is good and another thing is bad, and this path of spirituality is not for faint hearted, not even for looking. And by the way please eat some thing hygienic. Thank you.
Thank you. I was looking for this comment. He made sure to say all the sensational things about Aghori beliefs, and culture but nothing about why. He presented them as nothing but a nutcase for content. Aghori is a left-hand path of Hinduism. They rarely consume flesh, only after dead, and in ritual settings as part of their Sadhana. The idea is to recognise a higher self or a state of being, and part of their test whether they can get over their attachments or not. Their practices are protected, and respected. To Aghori, to shy away from these things is to shy away from God. Aghoris base their beliefs on two principles common to broader Shaiva beliefs: that Shiva is perfect (having omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence) and that Shiva is responsible for everything that occurs: all conditions, causes, and effects. Consequently, everything that exists must be perfect and to deny the perfection of anything would be to deny the sacredness of all life in its full manifestation, as well as to deny the Supreme Being.
Great video, I want to document Guatemala and see all the volcanoes and colours of that country hoping to go this year
It's always amazing watching your videos man. I never comment on any videos, this is my first time. I love your videos specially the one where you visited your wife's hometown in bicol, cause im also from bicol. I would love to document our beautiful place through film. Take care man 🤙

Those who don't know - 💩🤡
Those who knows - ☠️🗿
I'm glad that you already visited the Philippines and I hope you will make some documentary vlogs again here
Your India Videos are quite Unique and incredible!! I would use GoPro’s to film my Kayaking journey across the Philippines and document the hike across volcanoes. GoPros are the best to capture every single travel moment in 4K, which end up becoming your best memories. Moreover it’s light, small and can be carried anywhere.
I hope to win the GoPro giveaway as I’ve been your loyal follower for the past 4 years
