Like EVERYONE on the streets of Juba (South Sudan's capital) is well over 6 feet tall, and many over 7 feet - even the females! It's one of the most unbelievable features of mankind that I've ever seen anywhere on this planet.

I went to Juba for work in some time around 2010 as someone who's 6'6 and from a Southern European country - I've always felt huge, uncomfortably so at times considering the average male height here is around 5'8, I'd heard about how tall they are in South Sudan but it was still incredibly shocking. I was expecting to feel relatively normal but I truly felt small most the time. It was super weird. Extremely polite people everywhere too, as is well demonstrated and showcased in this video.
Thanks for your positive comment on the country and the people. As long as one doesn't provoke, South Sudanese will always give the best treatment😊

And keep in mind the country is one of the least developed nations in the world, with severe malnutrition. Yet they still are tall, so this beats the argument that people make about good nutrition contributing to taller people. Genetics really makes the difference in the height game.
@Deez Nuts Yes, the least developed country but rich in its own way. If you knew the history, you would love these people for being the most resilient humans on earth. What is missing is good leadership, otherwise, it has the wealth that other countries don't possess🤗 remember that not everyone is malnourished, those terminologies are used by those making money in the name of South Sudan being poor. If today South Sudan gets brilliant leaders who are determined to put the system in order, they will first get read of all those humanitarian organisations in the country....those people they claim to be helping won't die in any way apart from being made poorer.

There was a large Sudanese population at my school here in Australia. The girls all looked like supermodels, without a scrap of makeup. They made the rest of us look like basset hounds. And I was a 6 foot tall girl myself- I looked short!

I saw an article about research in the Netherlands which looked at hundreds of years of data recorded in marriage registers. It seems to show that the height of Dutch people had been selected for over a long period of time. Tallness was considered an asset and arranged marriages between families had prioritised it, as had personal selection of partners. So tall people were more likely to be married and have kids and then their tall kids would also be more likely to get married and have kids. What it means is that tallness in the Netherlands seems to have been caused by selection and the people as a group had become gradually taller and taller.
This could also have happened in South Sudan. Not definite, but one thing is for sure, the hot-climate-causes-tallness theory mentioned in the video has no legs at all!

Yes your theory of marriage preference or tall preference makes more sense, because so many people around the world have lived in hot climates, but are still average height.
