    Welcome to JAMAICA - one of my favorite countries in the Caribbean. This island is full of life, culture, beaches, and reggae music, and it makes for an excellent vacation destination... However, there's a darker side of Jamaica that exists among the local population. In recent years, the nation has emerged as one of the most dangerous in the Caribbean with gang violence and political turmoil in the slums areas. In this story, I went deep into a dangerous slum called Flankers in Jamaica's second-largest city (Montego Bay) to document street life and see what kind of people live there.
    I'd love to hear your thoughts on this story - does it change the way you see Jamaica? Let me know in the comments down below!

I made this video because I was curious about the real street life, far away from the tourist traps, and I’m really glad I did. Because the people everywhere in this country are amazing!!! 🇯🇲🙏🏼🔥

      This may come as a surprise to many but I would have to rank the Russian people as some of the most hospitable. Many of the Jamaican people (and people of other countries) treated you well as long as you were spending money.

Some men came in my yard in my gated community while my 2 year old was on the veranda, they walked straight into our yard off the street! they asked for money to buy a phone credit that evening our neighbour's house was broken into while she was not at home! a man was also shot in our gated community before we moved in (contracted killing ). Over 4 kids were killed at the start of the year by gun violence in Jamaica , while they were on their way to school in a taxi that got shot up... i guess all these victims are criminals! Jamaica is more than resorts or abject poverty. It’s unfortunate that Jamaica is always dichotomized in this way. There are many ways of life in Jamaica than just those two states. Also, Jamaicans have access to beaches, but it is true that preferred beaches may fall on privately owned resort property or have an entrance fee for the general public.

    • @l.t.3857
      @l.t.3857 Před 27 dny +30

      As a Jamaican, I agree. There is so much more to Jamaica than the two extremes… But it’s these extreme videos that get views and likes on CZcams. They rarely show the middle or upper suburbs… always either the ghettos or the tourist areas. What they are pretty much saying is that, outside of tourism, Jamaica is just one big ghetto, which is so far from the truth. The ghettos are in the small minority… most Jamaicans I know have never even been to the ghettos… only see them on CZcams. But let them carry on… most of us know the truth… let them continue to be entertained with the false narratives… entertainment at other people’s expense… that is the current state of the world, sadly.😢

Usually business go smoothly, because of mutual respect. please don’t do that, Jamaican do not fear people and we don’t compare I don’t get why people like to compare to us, Haiti is no joke but don’t compare. There are free beaches in Jamaica… the government is aware of the complaints, and is in the process of creating more. For obvious reasons, not all the beaches can be free… there needs to be upkeep. One of the best free beaches and parks is right in Montego Bay… I think it’s called Heritage something… I remember when it was opened during the pandemic… google it.

      Not picking up for the government but that statement is not exactly true. Google Harmony beach Jamaica. There’s beaches right around the island. I do agree that quite a bit and maybe the best part of the beaches are taking over but it is not true that Jamaican’s can’t go on their beaches. 🙂

      @@mitsysimkelle2325These people just love taking on problems that don’t even exist. Jamaicans who know Jamaica, and have lived there, keep telling them it is not true that Jamaicans cannot access the beaches, but they keep spreading lies. They like to feel that they are peoples’ saviors throughout the world. You can go to the eastern end of Jamaica, for instance, and just walk to the beach… it’s free… there is no one there collecting money. I’m especially referring to the parish of St. Thomas, where my family is originally from in Jamaica. And as you mentioned, there is a beautiful public beach and park right there in Montego Bay… yet they want to continue losing sleep over this… a nonexistent “problem” that exists only in their heads.

      @@mitsysimkelle2325This is the third time responding… they keep deleting my comment because they don’t want the world to know that there are free, public beaches in Jamaica.😂😂 I decided to google Harmony Beach Park, as you recommended, and it clearly states that it is a “FREE, public access” beach in Montego Bay. These people are so disingenuous… lying on the government… so sad.😢

    It's really cool that you've experienced that. I've lived in Jamaica all my life and I've never been there and would never go there without a friend who is living there. With communities like that, you have to show up with someone they know, if not, they are going to be very on edge because they don't know who you are or your intentions.

      I commented on that, and it was deleted. I mentioned the very beautiful public beach and park (Harmony) right there in Montego Bay, and that comment interestingly disappeared. They love to spread false narratives… We have to be more vocal about telling our own story. People want to believe so badly that Jamaica is this extremely dangerous place where we don’t have access to anything, not even our beaches. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve heard this. And you can’t tell them otherwise… It’s getting boring. SMH
