Fact: I came to Pakistan and I haven't spent any money... Why?
Because nobody will let me! Seriously. Pakistan has the world's best hospitality, by a long shot.
Anywhere I go in the world, I always insist on paying -- whether it be for dinners, gifts, taxi rides, experiences, you name it. But the people here in Pakistan (aggressively) won't let me pay. It's insane!!

I feel so bad now. They treat their guests, tourists so kind, they don't even accept money.. I guess they only accept money from people who's living there or doing business. This is so mind-blowing.. people all around the world, wants to take as much money from tourists.. I feel bad how my country is treating Pakistanis.. but mostly they're here as businessmen, not as guests. They have a very hardworking and never-give-up lifestyle with business mindset. This videos teaches me to treat them & guests better..

When I was working as a security officer, there was one guy from Pakistan. He always brought double the food so that I could also enjoy. I was a single guy in my early twenties also going to University while trying to support myself. I hope to find him one day so I can show my true gratitude for his generosity. He gave me some of the tastiest food I’ve had in my life. It was goat meat in a fragrant rice with many vegetables. He always refused when I offered to at least pay for the ingredients. As I was quite young, I was not exposed to the Pakistani culture, many people in high-school were saying negative things, calling them racist names and smelly, etc. From my experience there are good and bad people in all cultures and races. I am blessed in a way because I grew up in Toronto, Canada, where all cultures live more or less in harmony. I want to thank this man and his family, for exposing me to their beautiful, ancient culture, and sharing their hearts with me. Mr. Abid Khan, if I can ever track you down, I would like to share my cultural heritage with you and your family. My ancestors are from Czechoslovakia, and I hope you will enjoy our food and culture. I just want to say thanks to a guy who realistically didn’t have much in common with me but literally fed me when I was hungry. Regardless of my skin or religion.
Thank you Abid. I wish all our children could be as good friends as you were to me.

So after an hour I went out and was very upset. Security in my apartment asked if I lost something.
You have no idea how much I was happy. Taxi driver saw where I live and came back so gave to security all my belongings.

I just wonder what a tourist should do with the extra spending money. It feels unusual visiting a country and leaving without contributing at least a little bit of profit for the privilege of being a guest. It's not like a few hundred dollars will impact the economy enormously, but they deserve it more than I do as a tourist.

I was thirsty and wanted to buy some water and a pop BUT I had no Pakistani money....only NZ$ and US$. The vendor DID NOT ACCEPT any US$ or NZ$ dollars and the purchase was turned into a GIFT. In fact my persistence only seemed to irritate the man. That being said and being familiar with similar Iranian customs, you should never expect to get something for free....never.....that would be rude and might meet with similar reactions as in the West....always offer your payment even insist a little and then if you are sure the vendor is genuine about their refusal to accept ...only then go about your business.....don't forget to be appreciative and thank the vendor.

I now wish to know more about Pakistan. What a fantastic presence with such hospitality. I wish the general attitide here in the US wasn't so poisoned by capitalism, greed, status, and ego. Though, you will find people far and wide here (generally in the south, which is something often heard - "Southern hospitality") who will open their home to you and provide as best they can a fun, friendly experience. As an American, finding people and places like that here does seem very rare.
