- Sometimes we, motorcycle riders, can struggle a bit with slow speed maneuvers, like U-Turns, or tight turns on intersection. It's especially true for big, heavy motorcycles, like cruisers or tourers. But even if you are a beginner rider - you can easily become confident with slow speed turns pretty fast, and never drop your bike again if you follow this 7 steps to slow speed confidence!

On Moto Control channel you will find videos about motorcycles, motorcycle riding techniques, tips & tricks and online motorcycle training for beginner and advanced riders!
A little info about me. My name is Andrei Bodrov, originally I'm from Moscow, Russia, and now I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Back in Moscow I was a motorcycle instructor and creator of Moto Control Beginner & Advanced motorcycle rider courses, which quickly became the most popular courses in Moscow (well, at least the advanced one😁). My advanced training course makes emphasis on slow speed riding techniques at first (such as good clutch and throttle control, proper riding posture, proper use of vision, etc.), then proceeds to more advanced techniques (such as aggressive braking, trail braking, maximal lean angle). The course incorporates a lot of exercises from DOSAF slow speed riding (similar to police rodeo like motorcycle training in USA), braking and cornering exercises and motogymkhana style riding. And now, since I actively learn English - I decided to post some useful videos for both your and mine practice!😉

Since everyone writes this, it's necessary, I suppose 🤷, so here we go. Disclaimer: Ride at your own risk, you are responsible for your own safety. Me, Andrey Bodrov and my channel, Moto Control disclaim any liability incurred in connection with the use of riding techniques from this channel. Use common sense, wear full protective gear and ride in a safe and predictable manner!

Andrei your tutorials are so underrated. Great educational style, thanks for having one of the better, simpler, clearer tutorials on how to do controlled moto-maneuvering on CZcams.
Greetings from Vienna to the, in your own words, “crappy part of Europe!” What you lack on Motojitsu in subscribers you make up in terms of clarity. Keep it up, man. Love your videos!! I used to ride on street and track when I was younger. Then live and job and things got in the way and I had to stop. 30 years later I am now taking lessons again while I wait for my new bike to be delivered. Can’t wait. With your videos, I now understand some things that I intuitively did right back then, and I also understand why I did some things wrong. Cheers from an old dog learning new tricks!!!
Thank you!😊
Grüße an dich aus Wien zurück, hleeb!
Greg Widmar (MotoJitsu) is quite overrated and self-absorbed anyway. He has become sort of a douche recently by stretching his grasp beyond motorcycle training and entering ‘life advice’ - never a good idea, especially with his Ex-Marine-Corps know-it-all attitude.
Also, his ‘books’ are lame and recycled common basic training contenr (if you can call them books, essentially being 40-ish pages of doodles for around 20$ apiece… printed somewhere in low-tier Chinese print sweatshop by glorious ‘Amazon Press’)
Here here, exactly.😮
You’ve helped me so much! I’ve never been so excited to hit a parking lot! Thank you for everything you do!!
Thanks, glad to help!
Dear Andrey your tutorials are priceless.
I just bought a new bike that is heavier than what I’ve used to.
It stressed me at first, taking it out for a ride every day for fear of losing control.
Watching your videos and practicing every day, especially low speed maneuvers, I start to gain confidence and feel relaxed and comfortable on the bike more and more. Thank you.
I'm glad I could help🙂
ANDREYSIR..YOU ARE BORN TEACHER,MASTER OF SKILLS AND BORN TO LOVE EVERY PERSON ,EVERYWHERE ON THE SURFACE OF TEHErth love you bodrov
My fav motorbike channel - great tips, love from the UK!
I love seeing a bike doing full-lock turns, smoothly. I aspire to do that and will keep viewing your videos.
Thanks Andrei, the way you put together your instructions and demonstrate everything yourself, makes you the best instructor on CZcams, in my opinion. I watch different maneuvers and then practice them for awhile. I appreciate your help so much. Thanks!
Your videos are brilliant dude.
Also you somehow have a chilled attitude that helps me feel less nervous for my next upcoming lesson.
It’s crazy how good you are at teaching, i think the best on youtube whatsoever
Thank you Andrei
I feel like having a super skilled teacher in my pocket
Awesome for covering DCT! I have an ATAS DCT and it’s spot on. I also put it not in Sport mode but regular
Pretty good deal indeed! Tieing together slow speed turning, throttle control, friction zone all together makes it all much clearer. About to get my first bike in decades. Still have good reflexes and eyesight plus an ear for revs vs gearbox. So I am binge watching while completing the acquisition of a mint 02 Daytona. I really appreciate your comprehensive material clearly linked to fixing common rider problems.
I am post retirement and would prefer to never drop it. I succeeded for six years of riding. With the help of your videos I will succeed again. Thanks for your work.

Thanks for making those videos. Great stuff!
This tutorial made me purchase perks and has made my riding SO much easier because before I saw this I thought I was what keeps the bike up, but in reality the bike is keeping me up and I am just guiding it. That is a HUGE mental breakthrough that allows me to ride with one hand to prove it.
Thanks for all the tips without BS, roll on Sunday...
Great video! I learn so much from your videos as a new rider. Keep up the great work
Your videos are the best thing a biker who wants to be better can ever get. You explain the principles so well.
been riding motorcycle since my college days, didn't know anything about riding, thank you for polishing my riding skills by watching your videos 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wow, wonderful and easy explanation!!😊
Love your riding tuition style...and brilliant sense of humour 😋
Hi. Great videos. I'm really glad to have discovered this channel.
Great teach on and about "dragging
" rear break
Thank you very much, I want training today on counter balancing more and more. 👍
you gotta love this guy. his accent is hilarious. but....he cranks out good stuff!!
Your videos are great good info and make total sense
Great material!
Great! Thanks. Greetings from San Juan, PR (USA)
Great explanation!
Very good video. Thanks.
Very informative video
It's great SOURCE of education
Thank you sir
Nicely explained.
hi Andrey, I usually do the slow-speed circle & 8 loop exercise at 2nd gear (at constant 10kph) without any need for clutch or throttle control. I will certainly try the slow-speed maneuver at 1st gear with clutch control with some open throttle.
Outstanding video
Ooh I'm going to practice this exercise for balancing while effectively stopped. 5:33
I like to stop at signs without lowering my feet, so this will be a good way to get better.
Great as usual
Outstanding.
Great video 👏
Truly excellent tutorial, because of the easy to understand explanations. From a 66 year old lifelong rider.
You are brilliant man, and I love your Italian accent all the way from Moscow
Thank you
Your channel is very important me. I wish you continue success
I feel like I need to try taking a motorcycle riding class again after watching these videos and really give 2 wheels a try
I 100% recommend so much fun to drive
I ride a ct90 with a centripetal clutch, so I drag me rear break quite often. Still learning. Thanks for the videos bro.
Same 🙋♂️
Thank you sp much.
Best instruction I've seen.
Thanks!
I have also seen some motojitsu and your videos are much better. Looking forward to see many more. And hope you will get well over the stupid war your people have ben forced into.
all in one💙❤
I would never ever belied that a huge hefty cruiser style bike could be manoeuvred so tightly, I know there are many riders with much lighter more agile bikes that cannot manoeuvre their bike like the one at the beginning of this video. It is amazing what a little technique can achieve.
This is great, and it’s 50% of what you need. The other 50%, go out and do it REGULARLY.
Congratulations on a great channel and its content. He's really good. ❤I have the impression that it resembles a fight from behind the "iron curtain. eg. MotoJitsu vs MotoControl. :-) Greetings from Poland. 👍
Thanks! I like motojitsu, so I don't fight him!😄
@@MotoControlEn indeed maybe fight is a bad word in English, it sounds weaker in Slavic languages, I meant competition more. Good work. In Polish YT channels, only one can be compared to you two: MCSTX. I recommend.
Love that throaty rumbly sounds, what did you do for it? Is it mainly just tuning?
I'm gonna use this to get license in indonesia, its very tight space , thank you very much
Nice, thank you 👌👍 I worry that DCT and newer electric bikes are going to lose us this fine control with no clutch. I would love an electric bike that added one back in !!!
I have never rode an electric bike yet, but since there is no minimal idle speed and almost no lag in power delivery - I hope that they can be controlled quite well on slow speeds too. Hope to check my theory in the future 😁
Any advice about how to handle a slow speed drop with a pillion on a fully loaded adv bike please? Stepping off is less easy especially for the pillion.
big biceps yes - not the other things please😆😎
I'd like to train the friction zone with the "stop/standing" exercise for hours, but my Ducati Monster 800 doesn't allow it for more than 10 minutes, then it starts to overheat :( Oil radiator with no fan. There's no fun with no fan.
What's the gear position when practicing slow speed..?
1st or 2nd gear..?
Спасибо, друг! Кип гоин :)
I have an amazing (maybe) idea how to do low speed clutch engaged training on small bikes. As a matter of fact usually you don't need a clutch for low speed maneuverers on smaller bikes, but it's very good skill if you are going to jump on something bigger later. So, my idea is to do clutch control training on 2 gear instead of first. It seems like quite nice simulation, isn't it?
Yes, you can do that, or you can try to go slower. This way you'll also need good clutch control on smaller bike!
@@MotoControlEn yes I can, but "bike stalling" situation caused by low revs like you've mentioned in this video is not possible. Honestly I didn't know, you can stall the bike by releasing the throttle. I ride the same 150cc bajaj boxer like you did recently and it doesn't stall with throttle off. Even on second gear I have to open it just slightly without stalling.
Anyway I'm glad my idea of training on 2nd gear isn't mad or stupid, so thank you very much for answer abd for amazing lessons. I'm able to ride mostly because of it.
Even dumping the clutch without open throttle will not stall it? I would think you likely already have good clutch control.
@@borisb5163 I'm not very experienced, so sometimes I stall my 150 cc bike in case I release clutch too fast. But when bike is hot I'm even start from second gear sometimes.
turning radius can be reduced to 0 if you throttle hard enough
I have a question? I’m a semi new rider and I have a Honda goldwing dct… I usually work on slow speeds in rain mode and manual bcs I don’t have a clutch to use the friction zone… my question is what is the average speed for slow speed maneuvering? I’m trying to get more comfortable leaning the motorcycle… so my second question is how do I get more comfortable at counter balancing?
The average speed is probably 5-10mph, it's a bit easier if you go a little faster, especially with DCT😁. About counterbalancing - make sure you can make full-lock turns first, then pay close attention to what you're doing with your head and upper body - turn your head at least 90 degrees into the turn and turn your chest as well, so your shoulders become parallel to the handlebars, on Goldwing it matters, since the handlebars are rather wide. And once you become comfortable with that - you'll probably notice that counterbalancing suddenly became pretty easy!
@@MotoControlEn gotcha thanks for the response…
Awesome video. How tall are you?
186cm (or 6ft, if I remember imperial correctly 😁)
@@MotoControlEn Thanks man! Awesome, same as me :)
All good ideas until you grab the front brake. Then you're gonna drop it in just a parking lo
!
Too bad this aint gonna work on a 50cc single.
Hi Andrey, I appreciate your video very much. Would you please allow me to make a copy of your video and upload it to my CZcams channel @狐狸先生Aerofox after adding Chinese subtitles? Most of my subscribers couldn't understand English very well and they rely on my translation service. Of course, I would cite your channel as the video source, so they could know about your channel too. --> @狐狸先生Aerofox
Thank you
