  • It was only one night in Atami, so there wasn't a whole lot of time to see much. Even so, I was surprised how much I explored in what was really an evening. The hotel was away from the busy parts of Atami, but I still opted to take a walk with my camera just to get a feel for the city. After being in the craziness that is Tokyo, the feel here was entirely different. It was smaller streets, hillier paths, and right by the sea to give it such a distinct atmosphere. I even came across a local street fair with small stands, small bites and beverages, and people dancing to a DJ's retro electronic set. For dinner, I ended up at a cafe called Maruya Terrace, which doubles as a guesthouse. The staff there were nice and served me up a delicious mackerel sandwich, something I never expected to have. I paired that with a local Atami beer and that was all I needed in that pleasant moment.
They also gave me suggestions on things to do for my final hours of Atami, which I will share with you in the next couple videos.

Absolutely LOVE Atami- the small town vibes, shops and ryokans are so cute and enchanting. I stayed at Furuya Ryokan- so beautiful!
