I love Atami.. the hills, the beaches and the Museum of Arts (MOA) that has perhaps the most beautiful view of the bay... Japan is another world.. top of the top!!! I hope I can visit again in this life including Mt Fuji..
Thanks for the comment. I TOTALLY agree with you. Atami is amazing and it's incredible how many people don't even know it exists. I was in Japan last month for about 3 weeks. Spent two days there, mostly hiking up the hills up to the castle. It is an AWESOME spot in Japan.
This is amazing..I really wish I have more time to visit these towns by myself, normally when I visit Japan I'm with my family, and they all prefer the big cities like Osaka and Tokyo..
Thanks for the comment. I truly appreciate it. The smaller cities in Japan make all the difference to me. I guess, over the years, I got the 'big' cities out of my system and I've learned to appreciate the smaller ones. :)
Briefly stopped in Atami train station , but didn't had time to explore the city. Totally agree about seeing smaller towns of Japan cause i went south of Atami to Shimoda on the very end of Izu penninsula ,totally different experience than Big cities like Tokyo or Nagoya
I worked in Atami for a while, a long time ago. It looks much more developed now than it was then; but the hotels with the hot springs bathing are really nice. I was told there was some kind of Romeo and Juliet legend connected to a pine tree out by the water there. I think they committed suicide. I did see the castle, but didn't realize it was a modern building then.. until you told me just now. I worked at an ice skating floor show in one of the hotels.
Hey there Carl , I'm planning on going to Japan in May for 2 weeks. I was thinking of going to Hakone , Atami , Kyoto , Nara , Shirakawa-go and Okinawa apart from Tokyo. How does this sound to you? If I'm going to Atami should I skip Hakone? Also is this enough for two weeks? Do you recommend any other places? Thanks a lot! You're videos are really helping me learn more about Japan! :)
Hi Krishna. Thanks for the message. Here's what I recommend - Two days in Hakone/Odawara, one full day in Atami, three days in Kyoto, two days in Nara, one day in Shirakawa-go and four days in Okinawa. Don't miss Osaka's Dotonbori. If you're near Kyoto, don't miss the Dotonbori! :)

This is a amazing place I been there twice
I loved visiting Atami. I arrived there from the Izu Islands ferry during my trip. I was surprised many of the people there had never taken the ferry.
