Buck 119 is a hunting man's knife without question. Field dressing game since 1955. I love this 60 year old American beauty. Aaron...Even though you put her next to all those younger, stronger, pricier knives...she (119) still managed to stand out. Please give her a little more credit... She's earned it.

I knew the Silent Hero would be on here, I recently got mine and oh boy is it just a great knife. Once I got it in hand and did some work with it I was hooked. Still waiting on a kydex sheath that I ordered from Yellowhawk, I live in bayou country here in Louisiana so moisture is always an issue.

I have the Buck 119 knife and love that knife and purchased it in 2018 because I had not forgot the one which I purchased during the early 1980's and ended up giving it to my grandfather who saw and loved it. I ended up getting the model 120 upon returning to my assigned base because they didn't have any more 119's in stock at the time. I still have the 120 knife also and would not sell either of them.

thank you for so many details at the each knives!
here is one question for you, currently i have main knife for ESEE 5 and secondary knife for also ESEE Izula2 for bushcraft and I'm looking for up glades those knives, because ESEE 5 is 16oz that's really really heavy it's does really good chopping job but still too heavy for me.
I'm thinking about main knife for Survive! GSO-5.1 CPM-3V and secondary knife for Karbar BK24 D-2 steel
so I really wanted opinion who really know about wild and knives, Please tell me if you have any recommendation or opinions.
    Thank you for reading !

great video. I have to say esee is one of my favorites and I have tried them all in that category. I have drawers of knives from bks to ontarios but my esee's stay in my packs. just wished that they made an esee 6 in some other steel options like I saw someone else mention. I'd pay twice the price for that.

  • @thomasjefferson1457
    @thomasjefferson1457 Před 7 lety +1

I think you underestimated the Buck 119. I have one and I love it. I've batoned it as hard as I could and could not break it. It holds and edge better than any knife I've ever owned and it's my first go to knife for hunting or survival. The only complaint I have with the Buck 119 is not the knife itself but the sheath. It sucks big time so I retired it and now use an aftermarket sheath. It's a classic design and it still does the job.

I was surprised to see the Steel Will Druid 200 on there. Fantastic blade that most would not give a chance because of the 9CR18MOV. A pity because this thing is joy to use. I've spent many hours doing yard work with it and the handle is really comfortable. Where my Fallkniven S2 will start to irritate my hand after an hour of serious use, the Druid just never does. Also while not an exotic supersteel the 9CR holds an edge surprisingly well. It's indeed along the lines of a well treated 440c. I would recommend the blade to anyone looking to purchase something off the beaten path. I'm confident you'll like it.

love the videos. I got into starting an Esee collection because of your videos and they do not disappoint. Esee 6 is my go to know if I could only carry one. I called Esee and spoke to them about an Esee 6 version in a high quality stainless steel or other rust resistant steel but they don't have plans for it ever. ;-( I still love the 1095 though, I just don't take it to the coast when I camp or fish. However, all of my Esee knives perform outstanding. They are working tools worth every penny and more.

Based on what you said about the BK-2, that if it were just two inches longer it would be unstoppable, you might consider the Busse Steel Heart Ergo. It's the same thickness(1/4in), has a 7.5in blade that is 1 5/8in wide, making it a very versatile knife. Only downside is the price, because it's a Busse. If you ever get the chance though, I'd love to see a video on it!

very good list in my OP Aaron, good job man good vid. Was a little surprised to hear such high praise for the BK16. Not that I don't agree because I own one I stripped and modified a bit. About to go custom handle scales and sheath ect.. for it. Never heard anyone put it on the level with the Tops knives of that class. Much more confident investing for extras now. One question though, the skeletonized handle doesn't concern you for hard use? I was a little disappointed when I took the scales off how thin the steel is at some spots. thoughts? thanks man and merry Christmas out to you and yours. peace.

Great video Aaron, but you did forget to mention that someone could take a Bark River and cut through that entire pile of knives and then still shave and cut paper. The Republic of China (unofficially, Taiwan) did a fantastic job on that Cold Steel Master Hunter though. Jokes aside, BRK is my favorite, but obviously TOPS knives and ESEE perennially do an amazing job. TOPS just needs to add the Shango notch to every knife and they'd sell like hotcakes.

Coming from a freezing cold below zero perspectives (frosty/snowy/slippery mode of ops)... what are your thoughts on BK-9 as is factory handles vs. Esee Junglass. This would be a one blade option from fire building, wood processing from chopper to finesse, and basic cold weather camp food prep.? Thank you for your thoughts in advance, and a Merry Christmas to you and yours. I have the first version of BK-9 and I feel it's the best of the Beckers as all-arounder.

If the shoe was on the other foot (changing handles out on BK-9? --- Also the added length of both blade and handle on Esee could be the real advantage. 9" simplicity I like, but there are a lot of times 1" can span more for batoning vs.hatchet safely when it's truly freezing out and wearing heavy insulated mits.

+D.A. Harlan I think its in the same boat as the BK16 where its a short fat heavy blade.

That's one of the great things about you is that you'll have a knife for a month and it'll show some wear. I quickly tired of people talking like they know a knife like the back of their hand and it looks new out of the box.

I would bet that the Buck 119 special has field dressed and skinned more deer/game, gotten more people out of serious situations, and is trusted by a broader range of people (in America) to be there ready to go to work than all of the other knives combined. Just my guess.

Thank you so much for the excellent porn! Why you sold the "Hall of Champion" Ontario SP51 and "the best chopper of the channel" Ontario SP53?? I am a little flabbergasted to see them gone. Same for the ESEE-5 by the way. What dethroned them??

+JD For their weight I just prefer the Junglas or and AXE. And the ESEE5 though good can't beat the BK2 in the woods.
