Love how your reviews are so succinct and to the point, without being verbose. Excellent work, thanks.
As for me, being financially limited, I carry as a survival tool the first gen SCHF9. Big hands so I had to wrap it in paracord, but with the 550 it fills my hand well and I’m happy with it (need that 1/4” thickness for peace of mind).
And YES! LOVED THAT LAST ENTRY!
    Great video, keep’em coming.

WTG has been getting a lot of my attention in 2021. I have the Wilderness Warrior and I quite like it. They are starting to offer a lot of non-“traditional” blade shapes and styles that are fun and interesting, which I think is commendable.

Nice wrap up. Thought it was great that you decided to take your family on the road while you guys are young enough to do it and enjoy your family. When you get in your senior years I think you'll look back and be really glad you did it inspite of the extra challenges it brought. Thanks for continuing to bring us well thought out knife reviews.

Thank you for another comprehensive roundup of the year. Personally, I would love the snake eyes sword but it's not legal where I live!
I truly appreciate your dedication to bringing us these gems every year and I rely on you more than other reviewers to bring out those finer points. Case in point - I was tilting towards ankura blackout by worktuff. But since you mentioned the extra care needed for SK85 compared to 1095, I will have to drop it for now (India is obviously humid for most of the year)
Thanks for this video and the ones before that have graduated me from a united cutlery rambo knife fanboy to TOPS operator 7, war Bowie and white river backpacker, skeletool CX etc. All phenomenal knives that I use everyday.
    Have a great holiday season!

Great reviews. These reviews really help to inform and enable one to better pick and choose a knife in question. I'm liking that Joker Nomad and I have that LionSteel T5. I tend toward a finer pointier tip like the T5 has, but like the functionality/beaterability of the Joker Nomad tip.

Those are good middle of the road knives! That being said, do NOT do he mistake to buy a TRC Mille Cuori, because you will be so spoiled with it's quality and performance on everything, that you will not want to use any other knife, or buy any other knife. All the knives, will look like junk after that.
I know, want to get a new knife, because I haven't got any since a couple of years back, that got the Mille Cuori, however, that knife has literally destroed my hobby of collecting good knives in terms of performance and quality.
I also love the Lionsteel M4, but I had to reprofile that knife, to make it perform as it should and I'm glad, that Lionsteel, upgraded their heat treatment, because I own 2 Lionsteel M4, one from their first lines of production, and one thta I got last year, which now has way better heat treatment on the steel (They still do poor main bevel geometries though, so you still have to reprofile the Lionsteels! It's just that handle desing the M4 has, that is closest handle to perfection Ive ever seen or used!!
I always use my knives, as I live on a mountain 30 km away from the city, so knife is my main need as a tool daily.

@@WheresWaldo05 calling M390 soft lmao, you clearly have no clue, what you are talking about. And apart from that, hardness in not most/only important attribute for a knife steel, it should be a good mix of edge retention toughness and depending on environment and usage purpose, rust resistance.

    • @mr.b111
      @mr.b111 Před 2 lety

@@WheresWaldo05 there's absolutely no meaningful argument in what you're saying, and the statement I made is absolutely true. To state that tool steels are generally "not that great", or too soft for knives is simply false, and especially M390 has very good edge retention.

I’m looking to upgrade my Hori hori soil knife… there really aren’t high end versions, so I’m looking at midsized survival knives as potentially filling this role (with the added functionality of taking out woody weeds, in addition to digging). I’m looking at stuff with a broad blade and somewhat centered tip. The Off-Grid Ridgeback looks good (with a scandi grind, like a hori hori). The BK10 has a shovel-like tip and lots of aftermarket stuff, although the grind may not be as good for moving soil. Anything else I should consider?

The Joker Nomad seems very similar to the Victorinox Outdoor Master Mic. What do you think?

I have a lot of fixed blade knives but it seems like I always go back to the Gerber Strongarm

I am really tempted to pull the trigger on the LionSteel T5 but I am not sold on Niolox steel. I really wish they had it in M390 like the M4.

Just for info AVN introduced an M311 NC version with smaller/sharpening choil instead of the big one.

The best fixed blade to open those Amazon boxes that have more knives in them...that 99.9% don't need or ever use... Marketing... Gotta love it.

@@gideonstactical Thank God for CZcams for letting tacticools market so many things that no one needs but everyone but me wants I guess. It keeps the world turning. This old man has survived 75 years with only a Colt 1911, a 30 Win 1894 and a 12-870... Along with a Buck 110 and a Swisschamp. I guess I need to get with the program before the zombies come to my farm and I die with my money instead of Amazon getting it... Sigh.

You know what would be cool? First let me say I like your knife reviews a ton because you are a user and talk about the knives after you have had them to the field for a while. Now to my point. I think it would be great if you would do a fixed blade: trout and bird knife review. I know you are not primarily a hunter/fisherman but I believe you have told us you do both. The trout/bird knife style of knife is tough to find in this day and age but there are some out there. It would be great if you would do a review of a couple of fists full of this style of knife.
