My dad gave me the 119 in 97...I was 13 at the time...still one of favorite knives...love that knife
So good 😊
I have the nomad with walnut handle
The T5 is my favorite fixed blade. Lion Steel did an amazing job on it, both the knife and sheath.
Spain is underrated at all levels. Kudos from Valencia
Love how your reviews are so succinct and to the point, without being verbose. Excellent work, thanks.
As for me, being financially limited, I carry as a survival tool the first gen SCHF9. Big hands so I had to wrap it in paracord, but with the 550 it fills my hand well and I’m happy with it (need that 1/4” thickness for peace of mind).
And YES! LOVED THAT LAST ENTRY!
Great video, keep’em coming.
WTG has been getting a lot of my attention in 2021. I have the Wilderness Warrior and I quite like it. They are starting to offer a lot of non-“traditional” blade shapes and styles that are fun and interesting, which I think is commendable.
Love the micarta taco idea on the handle of the Lion Steel. God Bless you and your as well Brother.
Nice wrap up. Thought it was great that you decided to take your family on the road while you guys are young enough to do it and enjoy your family. When you get in your senior years I think you'll look back and be really glad you did it inspite of the extra challenges it brought. Thanks for continuing to bring us well thought out knife reviews.
Love this time of year with these reviews!
Always one of my favorite videos! Thanks, bud!
Been waiting for this too!!!! Thanks man
I’ve been waiting for this vid ! I’m glad to see you growing 👍
Thank you for another comprehensive roundup of the year. Personally, I would love the snake eyes sword but it's not legal where I live!
I truly appreciate your dedication to bringing us these gems every year and I rely on you more than other reviewers to bring out those finer points. Case in point - I was tilting towards ankura blackout by worktuff. But since you mentioned the extra care needed for SK85 compared to 1095, I will have to drop it for now (India is obviously humid for most of the year)
Thanks for this video and the ones before that have graduated me from a united cutlery rambo knife fanboy to TOPS operator 7, war Bowie and white river backpacker, skeletool CX etc. All phenomenal knives that I use everyday.
Have a great holiday season!
Great reviews. These reviews really help to inform and enable one to better pick and choose a knife in question. I'm liking that Joker Nomad and I have that LionSteel T5. I tend toward a finer pointier tip like the T5 has, but like the functionality/beaterability of the Joker Nomad tip.
Those are good middle of the road knives! That being said, do NOT do he mistake to buy a TRC Mille Cuori, because you will be so spoiled with it's quality and performance on everything, that you will not want to use any other knife, or buy any other knife. All the knives, will look like junk after that.
I know, want to get a new knife, because I haven't got any since a couple of years back, that got the Mille Cuori, however, that knife has literally destroed my hobby of collecting good knives in terms of performance and quality.
I also love the Lionsteel M4, but I had to reprofile that knife, to make it perform as it should and I'm glad, that Lionsteel, upgraded their heat treatment, because I own 2 Lionsteel M4, one from their first lines of production, and one thta I got last year, which now has way better heat treatment on the steel (They still do poor main bevel geometries though, so you still have to reprofile the Lionsteels! It's just that handle desing the M4 has, that is closest handle to perfection Ive ever seen or used!!
I always use my knives, as I live on a mountain 30 km away from the city, so knife is my main need as a tool daily.
Thank you Sir for your appreciation to knives from my country, I love Lionsteel.
As always... great content Aaron. I can't believe how fast and big the channel has grown in this time, well I can. Been with ya at around 5k wow I just got older 😂 thanks for the effort and info. Godspeed A🙏👍😊
Fun video; looking forward to the best of 2022!
Great video. Thanks. The M5 comes in 3V now. Also awesome.
Lionsteel are a fantastic brand. They use great steels they have great designs and the fit and finish is always top class. It took me the longest time to get into lionsteel but so glad i did.
Great video thank you
Finally the video i was waited !!!! from last year i got the Buck GCK, but before this i purchased the Lionsteel T5 !! Both are amazing , and i m a very happy owner for the 1,5 year of using . Veeeery glad you apriciate the T5 s all around value! My strongly suggestion is to get for review my new baby , the Swedish EKA W1 Axeblade with Sadvik steel. That bad boy realy have blown my mind , and i m absolute that you will love it too !!! Stay strong and healthy Greetings from Greece!!
I love fixed blades. I have a TOOR field 2.0 that is really awesome! My new EDC!
Great video. Perfect stuff. Cool and true comments.
Great video as always. You should do a segment on best EDC fixed blades. I recently picked up the WTG Nomad EDC and it is fantastic. That should be on your eval list along with other classics like the ESEE Izula.
Let’s go!!! Been waiting for something like this for the end of the year
Great knives and I will always choose the kydex.
Love you're content! I got myself a spyderco tenacioys after i saw you're video! Absolutly love that knive!! My go 2 fixed knives are still the esee 3 en jg3. Trying to get some others in rotation but stil go to those 2 again haha 🤣🙈.
I've been waiting for this video all year!
That Lionsteel T5 is impressive for sure & at not a bad price considering a Bark River Bravo 1.25 in any steel will start around $180 and then for 3V and nice handles around $300.
If you can even find one in stock anywhere! Overrated
@@Dcale I’m just fine with my bravo 1 & 1.5, don’t really need another in that size range. 😉👍
@@Dcale are you referring to the Lionsteel being scarce or Bark Rivers being scarce? Because I have no problems getting BR’s. Lionsteel idk about their availability.
@@WheresWaldo05 calling M390 soft lmao, you clearly have no clue, what you are talking about. And apart from that, hardness in not most/only important attribute for a knife steel, it should be a good mix of edge retention toughness and depending on environment and usage purpose, rust resistance.
@@WheresWaldo05 there's absolutely no meaningful argument in what you're saying, and the statement I made is absolutely true. To state that tool steels are generally "not that great", or too soft for knives is simply false, and especially M390 has very good edge retention.
God Bless and Merry Christmas to the GT Family this winter! 🙏🏼 (thank you for all the great work A&A)
Same to you!!!
Another great vid bro
I kinda went old school recently with a tops firestrike 45!!! Also picked up a ontario sword of black wind jager!!! Got it for only 60 bucks and they haven't been made in 20 years, and it was brand new in box!!!
Hello again, just would like to recommend trying some Bark River Fixed blades next year. I don’t know if there is a better fixed blade maker out there. So many flavors of blade and fantastic warranty on a product that really performs.
Aaron, could not agree more on the Lionsteel T5. As others mentioned, it was a toss up between the T5 and M5, but decided on the T5. I am not sorry at all for that choice. Another knife in that same length (maybe a 1/2" longer) blade is the Terävä Jääkäripuukko. The handle is very comfortable and the sheath is something special.
You gotta get your hands on a survive gso 6. Best fixed blade I've ever had.
MBK Fieldtrekker and the Hinderer Emmett are my top fixed blades of 2021.
Fantastic video. Very informative and useful. But one thing that I wanted to say... I have a Work Tuff Gear knife. I live in Michigan very humid. I found the best way to combat the rust issue is to do a couple coats of gun bluing.
Thanks for the tip!!
I used to carry a Condor Swamp Romper (silly name, great knife) a lot when hunting/camping which comes as uncoated 1075, pretty bad with rust. I used gun blue on it and it's worked well.
This is the video I wait for every year! Excited to see this years journey.
Excellent review!
My favorite fixed blade right now is the hinderer ranch hand with a harpoon spanto blade and 3V
Great review Aaron.
Thanks!!
Thank you!
I've got a Fox MB 140XL in Niolox and found it a great steel. I wanted the T5 so badly but ended up picking up the M5 in CPM 3V purely based on the better steel. T5 in 3V or Elmax would be the perfect knife
Good video. Well done 👏
I’ve said this before…Lion Steel and Fox knives from Italy are outstanding.
Agreed!!
Thanks for video
Would love a Lionsteel T5.If they could make a 6.5 inch blade version with CPM 3V steel or Zwear PM steel that would be amazing.
I’ve been carrying the LionSteel M4 for a year now. It’s indispensable to me now.
thank you for the education. My brother is looking for a military knife he was issued when he was in the army early 80s. He said it was super sharp and it sharpened every time you pulled it from the sheath. Do you know what knife he might be talking about?
LION STEEL looks incredible ... gotta get one
You gotta check out the Lion Steel M7 in my mind it’s the perfect survival knife . A close second would be the Hogue Ex-F01 7” it’s a beast as well .
Please do more of the Buck Pro series fixed blades this next year. There are so many cool knives that they've done that it would be a shame to not put into videos on them.
god bless & thank u sir
I was thinking of getting the Lionsteel T5, but I ended up getting the M5 instead in CPM-3V steel. It's a Knives and Tools exclusive. Nothing wrong with Niolox, but it isn't 3V. I really do like the look of the T5 though for sure. It's gotten good reviews from everyone who has reviewed it.
How much is that 3v I. US currency?
@@danachadwick4919 About $192.00
Man i wanted that 3v m5 so bad. Everytime i check its out of stock. That would be my absolute ideal knife. I have an m5 but in 3v its a must.
Good vid.. Lion Steel has me like wwhhhattt
I ground then filed my bucks guard down and I love it.
The joker Nomad is my favourite ever! Glad to see in your list!! Thanks for the vid!!
Glad you enjoyed it, excited blade. Will be review the new 6.5” version soon.
@@gideonstactical can’t wait to watch it!! Hope soon!!
I’m surprised the Longhorn by tops didn’t make the list or storm vector but it’s tough picking favorites when there’s so many good ones
Yes it was hard! Had to go with the Cuma Kage it was just that much next level.
Good Video
NOMAD FAN! The perfect one!
I can vouch for the Lion Steel T5. I have it in stonewash. I love the bollocks off it.
I love so many and have a few but My EDC is a Buck 119 on a belt on left hand appendix carry
I got my nephew the S35vn pro with micarta. Hoping if I can get him spending his money on nice knives, he won't have money to get in trouble.
@@charlessalmond7076 great plan 👍
I’m looking to upgrade my Hori hori soil knife… there really aren’t high end versions, so I’m looking at midsized survival knives as potentially filling this role (with the added functionality of taking out woody weeds, in addition to digging). I’m looking at stuff with a broad blade and somewhat centered tip. The Off-Grid Ridgeback looks good (with a scandi grind, like a hori hori). The BK10 has a shovel-like tip and lots of aftermarket stuff, although the grind may not be as good for moving soil. Anything else I should consider?
Very impressed that you included BUCK 119 Special "special" edition
Thanks for another great video! I would really like to know why nobody review the esse 4 s35vn, there's like only 2 videos out there that just talks about it but no field test. Very frustrating cos I think is a great blade.
Check out the Lionsteel M1, m390 fixed edc, amazing!
G'day Aaron, all great choices mate, any one of those would be welcome here, but alas, I can't have em all, not without a winning lotto ticket anyway, lol.
I am lov'n the Joker Nomad, I've put it through Aussie Redgum with no issue, there aint many harder timbers than that. FYI; you can squeeze the press studs in a vice to tighten 'em up, though ultimately I will replace with copper or brass rivets and maybe a row of stitching.
Btw; I thought the Storm Vector Viking might get a mention, personally I'll be looking for one of those in the new year.
Cheers Duke.
You now have me interested in that Joker Nomad 👍🏼👍🏼😎
You should!
I'd love to see a video of the different watches you wear, and have you ever reviewed the Buck Selkirk ? Thanks!
People have killed grizzlies with buck folders ....and rhinos with an axe......but the thought of facing down a grizzly with a sword just fills me with dread.
I just got the Lionsteel M5 in Cpm 3V.
It was a toss up between that or thr Lionsteel T5. Since it's a Knivesandtools exclusive I got the M5 but the T5 is next on my list.
They ship to the US?
The handle on the T5 is where it's at.
@@CodeKiLLa26 yes they do.
I'd like to see you revisiting old decisions from last years, your opinion now when you favor smaller knives. For example, the vid when you praised Ont. sp5.
Cold Steel Master Tanto in San Mai VG10 (6 inch) blade. Master of all trades and sharp as a razor.
my t5 is out for delivery ..... cant wait!
Awesome!!!
Hey GT great vid. saw a lot of stuff I want. LOL I have an ESSE 6 and an ESSE Junglas. enough said.
I believe my next camping knife will be a large chopper. It would be a better companion to a saw than a hatchet would, IMHO. Thanks, Aaron! Blessings to you and your family!
Can recommend the Cuma Kage! It functions as an axe if used right. Only downside is if you have to use it as a machete, or hike it a long long distance, it’s weight is a minor issue.
Currently running that and a silky saw (outback 2000) and I haven’t run into a single thing I couldn’t do with the pair :)
The way to pronounce the Tops is Cuma Cog-A Kage the meaning of Kage in Japanese is Shadow
I'd love to see a video on how you've set up your internet and how it's changed your reviewing process because I sure haven't noticed a difference in the quality of your content despite being permanently on the road
I would like to see what you would consider to be the top 5 for a 3-4” daily belt carry. I like my mora’s but recently picked up a CRKT Hunt n Fish knife. I particularly liked the scout carry sheath.
I too have that CRKT and love the scout carry too.
Have you tried any Manly knives? Made in Bulgaria and good value for money.
No, need to check them out
what do you use to treat your knife blades. to keep them from coroding? thanks
Hinderer Emmett Fixed blade needs to be on your 2022 List
LionSteel T5 discontinued. Which would be comparable or better? Thank you
The Joker Nomad seems very similar to the Victorinox Outdoor Master Mic. What do you think?
I have a lot of fixed blade knives but it seems like I always go back to the Gerber Strongarm
It’s a good one Don!
I am really tempted to pull the trigger on the LionSteel T5 but I am not sold on Niolox steel. I really wish they had it in M390 like the M4.
Just for info AVN introduced an M311 NC version with smaller/sharpening choil instead of the big one.
I just watched a video of this knife in 3V I'm not sure if it is available in the US or just in Europe.
Snake Eyes Sword
the joker is it a convex grind or convex edge? Can I sharpen it like any other normal knife?
You should do videos on things you know.
I use and carry My 119 as a self defense tool in Dallas Texas
I am sure deadly 💀
@@gideonstactical well it is a great deterrent and if it must be deployed it keeps the baddies at bay or gives them a bad day
The best fixed blade to open those Amazon boxes that have more knives in them...that 99.9% don't need or ever use... Marketing... Gotta love it.
😝 😂 haha
@@gideonstactical Thank God for CZcams for letting tacticools market so many things that no one needs but everyone but me wants I guess. It keeps the world turning. This old man has survived 75 years with only a Colt 1911, a 30 Win 1894 and a 12-870... Along with a Buck 110 and a Swisschamp. I guess I need to get with the program before the zombies come to my farm and I die with my money instead of Amazon getting it... Sigh.
Ive been a huge fan of the T5 for years now as a tactical fixed blade. Please don't make the price skyrocket with this review😭
Hahaha 😝 😂 it might!
I would be curious to see a comparison between Lionsteel T5 and White River Ursus 45
We will have to find out
Brother , I love the knives , but what kind of watch are you wearing ???
Make a review of the DBK knife (Dutch Bushcraft Knives) !
You know what would be cool? First let me say I like your knife reviews a ton because you are a user and talk about the knives after you have had them to the field for a while. Now to my point. I think it would be great if you would do a fixed blade: trout and bird knife review. I know you are not primarily a hunter/fisherman but I believe you have told us you do both. The trout/bird knife style of knife is tough to find in this day and age but there are some out there. It would be great if you would do a review of a couple of fists full of this style of knife.
Obviously ESEE 6 still the king. But I just got a QSP Bison and even though it's D2 it's really great and super affordable.
Yep, I'm seeing supply fluctuations in various items this season too. Order today, and support the GT Family this year! 👍
Strange question, did you record the audio portion of the ad @4:52 at kartchner Caverns?
No we are lake Havasu for that one 👍
