  • As one of the most useful and convenient inventions of the 20th century, answering machines made communication in the '70s, '80s, and '90s as easy as recording a message. No more worries of missing a call from your mom on your birthday or missing that important call from a client.
In this week's video we have a nostalgic look back at all the ways in which the answering machine changed our lives during our formative years.

My sister would record the greetings for us. She would sneak in messages to her friends in the greetings. It drove my parents bonkers 🤣

I loved the Crazy Calls commercial. My favorite was Beethoven’s Fifth! 😂 We didn’t get an answering machine until I graduated college and entered the job market. 😂

I still remember when my aunt got her first answering machine - I was only maybe six or seven at the time, and she was in her 20s and still lived with my grandparents. Her room was on the second floor, and she and I would take turns calling her number and leaving a message, then we'd listen together and laugh and then switch places to do it again. She was so patient with me, because I made her do this quite a few times!

I remember when my mom got her first answering machine- the FIRST call we screened ended up being important ("sorry, just got in the door!" Loll!). We had just opened the box, plugged it in and sat down to dinner.
I remember them fondly: college years. First cassette tapes then micro-cassettes

I had forgotten how fun answering machines were!! The wood-panel look made me laugh. It is true that they all looked like that! I sold a later model phone/answering machine on eBay a few years ago, so I guess some people still want them or collect them.

We didn't have "answering machine" money! lol What we did have: a secret phone kill switch - that my dad installed himself..hidden in rafters in the basement. On his way up to bed, at 10pm, he'd flip it, turning off every phone in the house. On his way to work, he's turn them back on...We had no idea until 20 years later - when we found it when were moving! lol omg it was so funny. There were six of us, so the phone basically rang off the hook all day! 😂

I miss answering machines. I wish they would come back in some shape or form, but I know that won't probably have it anytime soon. I wish I had those crazy calls cassettes when I was a kid, just a mess with telemarketers.😂
Also, I'm not sure if you saw my suggestion in the last video or not, but do you think you can do some videos on LED games of the 80s and 90s in virtual pets of the 90s and early 2000s? Thank you in advance!
